00:00Time's an illusion, so, like, whatever works, right?
00:03I wear stuff that's just constantly about to fall apart.
00:06It's almost like I save it. I, like, let it, like, build its energy.
00:30I'm Chris from the Head and the Heart. I play bass in the band, and, yeah, I've been on tour for four weeks this time out, and it's been great so far.
00:49We've been out with some great bands, Marfa, Wild Rivers, Wilderado now, just meeting some new friends and playing some really cool cities.
01:02We're at Salt Shed here in Chicago, which is our first time, but been hearing about it for months and months.
01:10I know it's new, but everyone seems to rave about it, so.
01:14In Chicago, it's just been kind of like, I wouldn't say a second home, but I feel like it was one of the first cities outside of the Northwest where we had some actual people show up to a show, which is exciting.
01:29Shubas was the first place we played here, and I feel like that was just, like, kind of a seminal show for all of us.
01:36Just a small room, but the first time we filled a room outside of Seattle.
01:40So, and we have family here. My brother lives here, so Chicago's kind of always been, yeah, kind of a home away from home.
01:51And, yeah, we're out supporting our new album, Aperture, which has been out for three, four months now.
01:57And, yeah, really great, collaborative record.
02:03I feel like everyone has their personality and kind of DNA all over it.
02:09And, yeah, it's really, it's been a great tour to be able to play some of these new songs live and mix them in with the old.
02:19It all seems to be gelling pretty, pretty nicely together.
02:24Yeah, and this is my wardrobe.
02:28Well, this is what I wear every single day.
02:32This is, like, my, I guess, my pajamas.
02:36This is, like, my equivalent of pajamas.
02:38I literally, I wear this every single day.
02:41This is, like, just, I guess, the most comfortable thing that I have and own.
02:47Just vans that I wear every day that are stinky and comfy.
02:51And I kind of run hot, so I usually am wearing shorts in the summer.
03:00You know, no, they're, I don't even know what they are.
03:04I think I made probably a thrift store that kind of, I think they fit kind of ill on the, ill-fitting on the bottom.
03:12So I just cut them off.
03:14And sometimes I sew them.
03:16This time I didn't.
03:16I usually have a sew kit with me for repairs.
03:23This Misfits shirt I bought at a gas station in high school.
03:29It was, like, at the time, it was, like, really oversized.
03:34But I couldn't believe I found, like, a bootleg Misfits shirt.
03:38I was a big Misfits fan, still am.
03:40At a gas station in North Bend where they filmed Twin Peaks, one of my favorite shows.
03:44And I've just had it over the years.
03:47I feel like I've lost it a couple times, found it a couple times.
03:51Again, I think the, kind of like the pants, I think the neck and the sleeves were ill-fitting.
03:56So I just took them off.
03:58The hat, this was a Missoula, Montana vintage store.
04:02Just, uh, I feel like I have a lot of random vintage hats.
04:09I feel like that's, like, one of my, um, hobbies on the road is just finding thrift stores, vintage markets, goodwills.
04:20Just kind of always, always looking.
04:22Kind of never know what you're going to find.
04:24Um, and then, funny enough, I've, in the last, like, six months, I've lost a little bit of weight.
04:33So, I've kind of reverted back to a lot of things that I wore, like, ten years ago.
04:40Um, so I guess my fashion has recycled upon itself.
04:44Like, this is just, like, a thrift store shirt that I couldn't remember how long.
04:51I've probably had this thing for a decade.
04:53It's been sitting in my closet for that long.
04:57Um, I used to wear it all the time, enough that I ripped a hole in the shoulder where the strap for my base is.
05:04And I just, I just sewed that up on this tour because I wanted to start wearing it again.
05:10Didn't want to ruin it.
05:11Um, that goes for pants.
05:14I feel like I just have some, like, old pants that I haven't worn in probably a decade, but now they fit again.
05:25Um, I've been rocking.
05:26Oh, I found a custom belt.
05:29Always got to have it.
05:30Um, Sashi, my last name.
05:33Uh, this is the 100-year anniversary, uh, of the rodeo in Ellensburg, Washington, where I live.
05:40Um, that was 2023, so I got to rock some hometown.
05:44Uh, not hometown, but, uh, just a little something from back home.
05:51Uh, let's see.
05:54I guess we can go.
05:55I, uh, you wouldn't maybe tell by the look of it, but I go golfing every single morning.
06:01Um, it's kind of my tour.
06:03I get up early.
06:04I have kids, so I get up early, and I just kind of need to do something.
06:08Um, so in the last couple years, I started golfing more and more.
06:13So I think half of what's in here is just kind of golf stuff, just pretty run-of-the-mill.
06:21I've tried getting a little, uh, experimental with fashion on the course, and I feel like
06:27it just doesn't suit me.
06:29I like to just show up in a very neutral, uh, just a neutral vibe, because you never know
06:36who you're going to get paired up with.
06:37Um, I kind of like just showing up with a blank slate when you meet people in that setting.
06:43So, uh, yeah, a lot of golf stuff.
06:48I got a golf, got a visor, which, uh, sometimes I wear golf pants.
06:55And then I found this, uh, where did I find this?
06:58This was like, I was, it was in New York, and it was like 95 degrees.
07:06It was so hot, and I was just looking for something, like, breathable.
07:12And, again, I bought it.
07:14It was kind of ill-fitting, so I cut the sleeves, cut the bottom.
07:19I feel like I do a lot of, uh, clothing mods.
07:23Jeans, these are, man, these are another, uh, I don't think the fashion has come around
07:29quite yet.
07:30It's still, uh, some 10, 10-year-old, uh, pants that fit me again.
07:37So I started wearing them just because, again, I lost a little, not a, you know, not a lot,
07:43but just a little bit of weight, a little bit of patch job there.
07:46I always, I always travel with a sewing kit, um, just because I feel like I wear stuff that's
07:53just constantly about to fall apart.
07:56It's kind of the nature of my stuff.
07:59And then we were in, um, Interlochen, Michigan.
08:02Yesterday, there was a lake backstage, so I have some wet clothes from swimming in the
08:10lake that are not dry yet.
08:13Still drying.
08:14We got this, or I think all of us got these, um, Shinola watches.
08:19We were in Detroit, and we had, um, some friends that worked for Shinola years ago.
08:25Great stuff.
08:26So we've had this, I've had this watch for probably a decade.
08:30Um, I find that I, if I, if I check the time on my watch, I feel like time moves slower.
08:38I feel like the digital thing, I feel like I, for some reason, the way it processes my brain,
08:43it makes me more anxious to look at a digital script, like, uh, time.
08:48So this kind of, like, somehow slows time for me.
08:52I mean, time's an illusion, so, like, whatever works, right?
08:56I feel like every once in a while we get some fans that, like, either throw stuff up, or
08:59we do, like, a little VIP, um, meet and greet with fans before the show.
09:05And a lot of times, especially the younger fans will, like, make stuff.
09:08It's really, um, quite sweet.
09:11And then I've got my, my Trident, my hometown, uh, Seattle Mariners that I try to rock.
09:17I think they're gonna, they're in the wild card, uh, right now.
09:21Hopefully they can pull ahead of the Astros and win the division, but I'll take a wild card.
09:26Yeah, necklaces, let's see.
09:28Uh, this used to be a feather.
09:31It broke in half.
09:32Um, I've had this necklace for probably, like, 15 years.
09:38I played in this band, um, called Widower in Seattle years ago.
09:43And, um, Heather, our bass player, got us all these necklaces.
09:47It was a very sweet gesture.
09:49And I've worn it, I think, every day since.
09:53Um, let's see.
09:54This one, I have, um, two young boys.
09:58We found this necklace in a river up in the Cascade Mountains.
10:01He spotted it.
10:03He was just, like, saw something shiny, kind of dug it out, cleared it off.
10:06And we found this, like, shark tooth, uh, necklace, which, uh, I thought it was kind of funny.
10:14And he does, he's, you know, he's not a big necklace guy.
10:17He's eight.
10:17And I was like, oh, I'll wear it.
10:19It'll remind, remind me of this time in the river.
10:22And, um, so that's where that came from.
10:25Also wear that every day.
10:27Um, yeah, that's kind of usually the extent.
10:31I do, I don't know what it is.
10:32I feel like it's, it's partially, like, sometimes on stage you almost need, not, like, an alter ego.
10:41But, like, I mean, usually people, like, dress up to some extent to sort of project something.
10:49Um, lately I've been feeling really good about just putting on, like, big chains.
10:56I used to wear a lot of big chains.
10:58I know it's, like, maybe it doesn't totally fit a lot of, uh, my philosophies.
11:04But they're not real.
11:06And they're just, like, they're a vibe that helped me just kind of get into it.
11:11Um, yesterday before the show, I was kind of just, like, taught.
11:15It was, like, just a hot day, swimming, playing golf.
11:19I was kind of tired.
11:20And I, like, put on my chain and started listening to, like, N.W.A.
11:25And I was, like, ah, just, like, help me just sort of get into this zone that's maybe a little less than, like, a normal venue.
11:36I don't know.
11:36Sometimes you need a little help, uh, just getting, not into character or anything.
11:41It's not like a, it's not like that.
11:42But just, I don't know, kind of getting you in the mood for, like, a show.
11:46So, um, so, yeah, chains, a lot of chains.
11:51Um, and then I got some shoes.
11:57Um, I've been rocking these.
12:00Again, I'm probably, like, 10 years old.
12:01But somehow they're kind of just finding their way back into, um, my life.
12:08Um, and then these are kind of, I got some slacks that I'll wear every once in a while.
12:14These are kind of my, for my slacks.
12:17These are from my denims.
12:19Um, again, I feel like sometimes shoes is kind of like with the chains.
12:24Like, sometimes just putting on something, it just triggers, like, a different energy.
12:30I feel like shoes, I feel like John is the same way.
12:32I don't know.
12:33You've already done an interview with John.
12:34I feel like he's a big shoe guy.
12:36And I feel like I've, like, can relate to that.
12:38Like, just putting something on can just, it just puts you in a different headspace.
12:45So that's why I feel like I don't, I feel like I don't wear a lot of this stuff during the day.
12:51It's almost like I save it.
12:53I, like, let it, like, build its energy for, like, 10 minutes before.
12:58Put it on and then kind of get into that, that mode.
13:02One thing that I love about my wardrobe is I've just got some, like, hometown art that my kids sent me.
13:10It's just a nice reminder.
13:11To look at it, see it, just, yeah, anyway, that's my, that's my custom wardrobe piece.
13:21Yeah, thanks for, thanks for watching and taking a little tour of my wardrobe.
13:27And thanks to everyone who's coming out to shows and listening to the record and the old records and participating in our career and our life.
13:35It means a lot to us, so, yeah, hope to see you out there and thanks.
13:42Bye-bye.
13:50Bye-bye.
13:52Bye-bye.
