00:00Tonight on The Proof is Out There, the classic UFO over Belgium that put the country's Air Force on alert.
00:07Even now, more than 30 years later, Belgium officials cannot explain what they saw on the radar screens.
00:12What strange force caused this landmass to do this?
00:16Initially, this looks like a landslide, but it's not sliding anywhere. It's rising.
00:22The famous footage that has Bigfoot hunters asking...
00:25Does this footage capture a mother and baby Bigfoot?
00:28And a massive mummified finger. Does it prove that giants once roamed the Earth?
00:34Based on the size of this finger, its owner would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 feet tall.
00:45Around the globe are videos...
00:47What are those things? It's moving.
00:50...photos and sounds that defy explanation.
00:58We don't know where they come from, who made them, or how they operate.
01:02What are they?
01:03Some sort of bizarre mutation.
01:05What's exciting is nobody really knows.
01:08Extraordinary claims need extraordinary proof.
01:10I'm Tony Harris, and as a journalist for more than 30 years, I've followed the facts where they take me.
01:18Now I'm bringing that spirit of investigation to the world's strangest sounds and images.
01:24We'll analyze each one with top experts.
01:27It's a credible case. It's a credible video.
01:31And pass a verdict on what it is.
01:33This video was clearly faked.
01:36The Proof starts now.
01:45Good evening and welcome to The Proof is Out There.
01:49The U.S. military has had some now-famous encounters with UFOs in recent years,
01:53but it may not be alone.
01:56Back in the final years of the Cold War,
01:58an encounter in the skies over the low countries of Northwestern Europe prompted a robust military response.
02:05That sparked a controversy over what really happened, which continues to this day.
02:12It's March 1990 over the Belgian countryside.
02:17Two F-16s are deployed by the Belgian Air Force
02:20after radar spots an ominous object hovering in the air.
02:24They see this.
02:25You're looking at an actual recording of what was on their flight radar lock-on.
02:31In the center of the screen, at an altitude of 7,000 feet, is a diamond-shaped blip.
02:37This blip indicates there's something solid in the sky,
02:40though it doesn't necessarily represent what this solid object actually looks like.
02:44The radar's altimeter, measuring in thousands,
02:47indicates the odd object races thousands of feet higher,
02:50then plummets back down again at breakneck speed.
02:53And it seems to accelerate to 990 knots, or more than 1,000 miles per hour,
02:59before bolting out of range.
03:01The pilots never make visual contact.
03:04But back on the ground,
03:05one resident of Brussels claims to capture this footage of three lights in a triangular pattern passing overhead.
03:12This video was shot in March of 1990 over Belgium, on the same night of the radar sighting.
03:19A few months later, Belgian Air Force Colonel Wilfred de Brouwer holds a press conference about the incident.
03:25What these pilots detected was well outside the normal flying envelope of an airplane.
03:33Sometimes it had speeds between 150 knots till 990 knots,
03:39an acceleration which occurred in a few seconds.
03:42These speeds would be impossible to tolerate for a human being.
03:47And there's another layer to this story.
03:51This wasn't the first Belgian sighting.
03:54There'd been a string of strange encounters just months before.
03:57It starts in November of 1989.
04:01Multiple reports start coming in of seeing three lights in the sky.
04:05During that first wave of sightings,
04:09no less than 30 different groups of witnesses described seeing three bright lights up in the sky.
04:15What they see is that these aren't three distinct lights,
04:19but rather three points of light on one very large triangular-shaped object.
04:25The witnesses claim to have seen the object slowly glide at low altitude northeast
04:29across the Belgian landscape from the town of Liège
04:33to the border with the Netherlands and Germany.
04:35More than half a dozen police officers working that evening also spotted the mystery aircraft.
04:41But it wasn't until months later when the Air Force picked up that strange UFO on radar
04:45and this footage was captured that they seemingly had proof
04:48that this was a technologically amazing craft.
04:52There was nothing that existed that could outperform this F-16 aircraft.
04:57But the pilot says that as he's pursuing this object,
05:01the object makes essentially a quick turn and deviates off his radar system and he loses it.
05:10In total, this Belgian triangle was seen by more than 1,000 witnesses over these several months.
05:16With so many viewers and the military involved, could this be the real deal?
05:21Our experts try to identify both the object on radar and the one that was filmed.
05:26Are they one and the same?
05:28If so, what could it be?
05:30First, astronomer Mark D'Antonio examines the 1990 video.
05:39The important thing here is to notice that there are three objects in the view
05:43and the objects don't get any closer to each other or move apart from each other.
05:48They stay near each other, almost as if they're connected in some way through a structure.
05:53So, we're probably looking at a cohesive, singular object that has lights on it.
06:00So, could this be a real triangular UFO?
06:03D'Antonio says he's not so sure.
06:05I can never pronounce that this is real.
06:07There's no data indicating that it is.
06:10I can only say that it's compelling.
06:13From my point of view, the jury is still out.
06:16So, does that make it a hoax?
06:18No.
06:18Does it make it real?
06:19No.
06:20But, it doesn't take away from the fact that this footage exists
06:25of an F-16 fighting falcon tracking an object on its radar.
06:31Sources say the ground footage was filmed at around 2.20 a.m.,
06:35about two hours after the F-16 spotted something on their radar.
06:39So, could these two incidents be connected?
06:41And what would that mean?
06:43Aviation expert Tim McMillan takes a closer look at that radar data.
06:46What this radar screen is telling us is that, essentially, this object descended from 10,000 feet
06:54to roughly 500 feet or below in just a matter of seconds.
06:59To do that, we're talking about something that would have to be moving exceptionally fast.
07:06Upwards of Mach 40.
07:07Those types of G-forces would crush a person.
07:12So, McMillan agrees with the Belgian Air Force.
07:15A human couldn't withstand these forces.
07:17But maybe an alien could.
07:19Well, hang on.
07:20McMillan has a different theory as to what the F-16's radar screens may have detected.
07:25I think possibly what we're looking at here is something called Bragg scattering.
07:31It's a scattering effect with the radar.
07:33Pockets of high humidity, ice crystals, cloud cover, different things like that can actually
07:39cause the radar to produce false echo returns.
07:43The pilots themselves never visually saw anything, only the radar.
07:49In this particular case, I would say that the idea that radar scattering caused these false
07:56returns could be a very plausible explanation for it.
08:00But remember, this object was detected on multiple radar systems, so it's unlikely it would be
08:07Bragg's scattering in every case.
08:10That's why many who've studied this incident remain perplexed.
08:18Okay, it's true.
08:20The incredibly fast speeds caught on the F-16's radar could be a glitch.
08:25But our verdict is genuine UFO.
08:27We have no way of confirming if the object seen on radar is the same one filmed in Brussels.
08:34But it does seem remarkable that these two pieces of footage came within hours of each
08:38other.
08:39And decades later, the former Air Force colonel and now retired Major General de Brouwer still
08:45can't account for the thousands of UFO sightings reported in Belgium over those months.
08:50Now from the sky to the Earth.
08:54We are all familiar with sinkholes.
08:57Those happen when water moves through cracks underground, creating a void into which the
09:03surface eventually collapses.
09:05But is the opposite possible?
09:07Can the Earth suddenly rise up?
09:09It's July 2021 in Haryana, India.
09:15Powerful rains have just swept through the area, inundating the surrounding field.
09:19But when a group of locals go to inspect the state of the land, they witness something astonishing.
09:24Their video shows that muddied water has pooled on top of the soil.
09:28Then suddenly, land starts surging up from below the surface.
09:40At first, it seems that the water might just be receding.
09:43But take a closer look.
09:45You can see that the land is actually rising as the water level remains the same on the ground.
09:50The person filming and the other bystanders have to step behind the cover of trees
09:58to get out of the way of this newly risen mass.
10:03Initially, this looks like a landslide.
10:05But it's not sliding anywhere.
10:07It's rising.
10:08We've all seen the tide rise.
10:10But seeing the land rise, that's a rare thing.
10:13Yet there is historical precedent for this kind of thing.
10:16The most famous incident occurred in Mexico in 1943.
10:19The Pericoutin volcano rose out of nowhere, giving scientists sort of this opportunity
10:25to watch a volcano literally be born in real time.
10:29It's even considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
10:33The Pericoutin volcano's cone rose about 1,500 feet in its first year.
10:38But notice that here, we don't see any typical signs of an eruption.
10:43So what else might be the cause?
10:45Could it be a methane bubble?
10:46A huge bubble of gas that can rise up from undersea methane deposits?
10:52Some have theorized that if a ship gets caught up near a certain part of the bubble,
10:56it can get pulled underwater and sink.
10:59They believe this could be the cause of many of the mysterious shipwrecks
11:03that have plagued the Bermuda Triangle.
11:05A lot of people speculate that perhaps something could be causing this new landmass
11:10to essentially be pushed up from the water.
11:15Methane bubbles have also been popping up in places like Siberia,
11:19where the region's permafrost is beginning to thaw.
11:22In some cases, this has resulted in huge gas explosions
11:25that leave massive, mysterious craters,
11:28as we showed you in a previous story.
11:30So could a buildup of gas or magma be causing this Indian land surge?
11:35We turn to our experts to get properly grounded.
11:43First, our experts don't see signs of volcanic activity.
11:47But is this seismic activity
11:48that happens when there is sudden rapid movement along faults in the earth,
11:53resulting in earthquakes?
11:54I mean, this is some kind of an earth movement.
11:58Let's say an earthquake.
11:59Well, then you're basically standing on a fault line.
12:01It would be shaking and opening up the land underneath it.
12:05The water itself would go down into that hole,
12:07and you see no motion of water other than the water coming up.
12:11And so this is a very unique phenomenon that I have not seen before.
12:15So if it's neither a volcano nor an earthquake,
12:18could gas be behind this?
12:20If this was a huge methane leak,
12:23they would be trying to breathe
12:24because this is a massive amount of gas
12:26that had to rise this thing up.
12:28Methane would be in this entire area.
12:30And so the people standing nearby
12:32would be running to get out of the way
12:33because that gas could kill them.
12:36So then what could be going on here?
12:38Anderson thinks it has to do with something in the soil.
12:42So when you look at this,
12:42you find out that there's a lot of clay in here
12:44that can absorb water,
12:46but that still doesn't explain why it rose so quickly.
12:49And then you found out that a farmer
12:51added a filler in there,
12:53and that filler was extra parts of rice.
12:56The ashes of the hard covering of rice,
12:59known as rice hulls,
13:00are used as compost to improve soil quality and crop yield
13:03since the carbon in them helps retain water and nutrients.
13:08In this case,
13:09as the flood water saturated the clay,
13:11the rice filler became buoyant
13:13and began to rapidly rise,
13:15creating an effect like a sponge filling with water.
13:18Our verdict?
13:24This was probably caused by the expansion of clay
13:27accelerated by rice filler.
13:30But there's no way to know for certain
13:32without testing the soil.
13:34With a video so strange,
13:36it had even our NASA geologist scratching his head,
13:39there's a chance what's going on
13:41is something we've never even heard of.
13:43The Patterson-Gimlin film
13:47is heralded as the best video evidence we have
13:50of Bigfoot.
13:52Well, many consider this next video
13:54to be just as intriguing
13:56and even more mysterious.
13:59See for yourself.
14:00Several years ago,
14:02this video started to circle around the Internet.
14:04Its location and creator
14:06are still unknown to this day,
14:08although rumors suggest
14:09this was filmed on the 4th of July.
14:11And as you can see for yourself,
14:13the terrain is consistent
14:15with summertime in North America.
14:17Then this.
14:19The camera settles on something moving,
14:21emerging from behind a large boulder.
14:24It's hulking, covered in fur,
14:26and hustling along amongst the foliage.
14:29For a moment, we lose sight of the creature,
14:31but then it reappears,
14:33and it's not alone.
14:34The Sasquatch is carrying
14:36what looks like one of its offspring.
14:38The potential mama Bigfoot
14:39then sprints off into the distance.
14:41Field researcher Cliff Barrettman
14:43says most of the fanfare
14:45surrounding the so-called Independence Day video
14:47is due to its incredibly rare glimpse
14:50at a supposed Sasquatch child.
14:52One of the biggest misconceptions
14:54about Bigfoot
14:54is that Bigfoot is an individual animal,
14:58and he has been seen
15:00from Northern California
15:01to Florida to Alaska.
15:02But it turns out Sasquatches
15:04are a perfectly normal species of animal.
15:08They have offspring.
15:10Back in 1924,
15:11a 64-year-old lumberman
15:13named Albert Ostman
15:14claimed he had been kidnapped
15:16by a Sasquatch
15:17and brought back to its cave
15:18where he encountered
15:20an entire family of the creatures.
15:22He described them
15:23as a basic nuclear family,
15:25a father, mother, son,
15:26and daughter Sasquatch
15:27who held him prisoner
15:29for more than a week
15:30until he was able to escape.
15:32Sasquatches do have babies.
15:34There are a number
15:35of Sasquatch footprint casts
15:37of juveniles,
15:38so one would expect
15:39occasionally every blue moon
15:41that some footage
15:42would show
15:43one of those offspring.
15:48Ostman's story
15:49reflects an idea
15:50that many Bigfoot researchers share,
15:52that caves
15:53make a perfect home for Bigfoot.
15:55You can even visit
15:56a privately owned cave system
15:58in British Columbia
15:59that's near many Sasquatch sightings,
16:02but you have to sign
16:04a waiver before entering
16:05just in case
16:07you have a run-in
16:07with the beast.
16:08But let's see
16:09what our experts think
16:10about this Sasquatch sighting.
16:17Bigfoot investigator
16:18Steve Kull
16:19tries to pinpoint
16:20the origin
16:21of this Sasquatch family film.
16:23I did run
16:25the bird noises
16:26going on
16:27in the background.
16:27Culls identified that call
16:36as that of the
16:37olive-sided flycatcher
16:38native to the western U.S.
16:40Besides the bird song
16:41you hear in there,
16:42you hear a car
16:43in the background.
16:44So to me,
16:50it's not a very remote location.
16:52It's not a disqualifier
16:53since Bigfoots
16:55have allegedly
16:55been seen on roads,
16:57but Culls
16:58sees other red flags.
16:59I immediately
17:01saw that there was
17:03something wrong
17:03with the way
17:04the body mechanics
17:06of the creature's movement.
17:09The Bigfoot itself
17:09just kind of
17:10just runs, stops,
17:11runs, stops,
17:12runs, stops.
17:13Find that very peculiar behavior.
17:15We checked with biologist
17:17Floyd Hayes
17:17to see if he saw
17:18any signs of
17:19familial great ape behavior.
17:21Usually when monkeys
17:23carry an infant,
17:25the infant is either
17:26hanging on to its belly
17:27underneath
17:27or it's climbed up
17:29on top of its back.
17:30They don't walk
17:31two-legged
17:32carrying it like that.
17:34But even if you
17:35accept Bigfoots
17:36are a different kind
17:37of ape,
17:38closer to a person
17:39and how they walk
17:40or carry their young,
17:41anatomist and Bigfoot
17:42expert Jeffrey Meldrum
17:43says there's
17:44another obvious flaw.
17:46I was troubled
17:47by what appeared
17:48to be the stiffness
17:50of the infant.
17:53As if someone
17:54in a costume
17:54was carrying a doll
17:56that didn't have
17:57mass and animation.
18:00There's some remarkably
18:01lifelike dolls out there,
18:03including some very
18:04lifelike Sasquatch
18:06infant dolls.
18:06We're calling this video
18:15a hoax,
18:16even though it's touted
18:17as one of the best.
18:18Our experts remain
18:19unconvinced that this
18:20is anything but a person
18:22in a well-made costume
18:23holding some sort of doll.
18:26But don't lose hope.
18:27An increasing number
18:28of reports suggest
18:29there are still plenty
18:30of little Bigfoots
18:31out there
18:32waiting to be found.
18:33Psychoanalyst Carl Young
18:37famously asked
18:38why with so many
18:40UFO sightings
18:41we lack solid
18:42photographic evidence
18:43of their existence.
18:44Is it because
18:45UFOs aren't photogenic?
18:47Well, this next snapshot
18:49might be the photo
18:50that proves
18:5150 sightings.
18:54Fife, Alabama, 1991.
18:57Documentary filmmaker
18:58Ted Oliphant
18:59is in town
19:00to investigate
19:00a string of UFO sightings
19:02when he receives
19:03an anonymous gift.
19:05It's a Polaroid photograph.
19:08That Polaroid
19:10at kids,
19:11that's what we did
19:12for instant photos
19:13before smartphones,
19:15appears to show
19:16a flying saucer
19:17hovering in front
19:18of a fuzzy tree line
19:20in a distant mountain range.
19:23Now, the UFO itself
19:25looks like a ridged disk
19:27with a clear dome on top
19:29and a flat underside
19:30facing the photographer.
19:31Many allege
19:32it's a photo taken
19:33during the famous
19:341989 UFO wave
19:36that drew Ted to Fife
19:38in the first place.
19:40That original UFO wave
19:42kicked off two years earlier.
19:44In February 1989,
19:46multiple police officers
19:47respond to reports
19:48of a large, bright,
19:49and silent object
19:51and silent object
19:51in the sky.
19:52Then they claim
19:52to see it themselves,
19:54first on a local hilltop,
19:56then later
19:56by the side of a road.
19:59This time,
19:59it's moving right
20:01towards them,
20:02and it would be
20:03the same size
20:04as a beach ball
20:05at arm's length.
20:06So we're dealing
20:07with a massive,
20:08massive object.
20:09The UFO silently
20:11passes overhead
20:12and disappears.
20:14But not for long.
20:15The next day
20:16proves even more eventful.
20:18About 50 or so people
20:19report seeing this object
20:21as well,
20:22in a town
20:23that only has a population
20:24of less than 1,500.
20:26And with that,
20:27Fife's reputation
20:28as a UFO hotspot
20:29is born.
20:31Newspapers around
20:32the United States
20:32start covering this incident.
20:34Some of the reports
20:35state that people
20:36saw a triangular-shaped object
20:38where other reports
20:39state that the object
20:40was more of a banana shape.
20:43And everyone wants
20:44to know what happened.
20:45But with little
20:46to corroborate the sightings,
20:48this Polaroid
20:49comes as potential proof.
20:51There's been a lot
20:51of speculation
20:52that the anonymous Polaroid
20:54is related to this sighting.
20:59Residents of Fife, Alabama
21:01still commemorate
21:02the 1989 UFO sightings
21:04with an annual
21:05Fife UFO Days Festival.
21:08Hey, when life
21:09gives you lemons, right?
21:10But what to make
21:11of that Polaroid?
21:12We ask our experts
21:14to give us
21:14the full picture.
21:20We first check in
21:21with astrophotographer
21:22Andrew McCarthy
21:23to see if this
21:24is a genuine photograph.
21:26So this is
21:27a Polaroid photo,
21:28and that means
21:30it was developed
21:30actually in camera.
21:32So there's not really
21:33a whole lot of room
21:34to do any kind
21:36of photography tricks
21:37in the darkroom.
21:38So I don't believe
21:39this photo
21:39has been manipulated
21:40after it was captured
21:41whatsoever.
21:42So it seems
21:43to be an actual
21:44airborne object
21:45caught on camera,
21:46but is it theirs
21:47or ours?
21:48Physicist Matthew
21:49Chidagas considers
21:50whether this could be
21:51a man-made aircraft.
21:53Fife, Alabama
21:54is not too far
21:56from Huntsville, Alabama,
21:57also known as Rocket City.
21:59So one possibility
22:00is that this was
22:01some sort of
22:02experimental craft.
22:03But descriptions
22:04of the five UFOs
22:05give Chidagas reason
22:07to doubt
22:07man-made tech
22:08is involved.
22:10Witnesses have stated
22:12that no sound occurred.
22:16So this would seem
22:18to make the
22:19human-made aircraft
22:20hypothesis
22:21pretty problematic
22:23to say the least.
22:25You would need
22:25to hear something
22:26like jet engine
22:28or propellers.
22:30So could what
22:31dozens of people
22:32saw be an alien craft?
22:34And could this
22:35Polaroid be the proof?
22:37McCarthy, for one,
22:39isn't so sure.
22:40This photograph
22:41actually contradicts
22:42a lot of the reports
22:44of triangular-shaped
22:45or banana-shaped UFOs.
22:46This one
22:47is more saucer-shaped.
22:49So this probably
22:50isn't one of
22:51the five UFOs.
22:52In fact,
22:53McCarthy's not sure
22:54it's a UFO at all.
22:55Look at how
22:56the upper portion
22:58of it is darker
22:59than the bottom portion
23:00and ask yourself
23:01how would that
23:02be possible
23:03when we all know
23:04the sky is brighter
23:05than the ground
23:06during the day?
23:07While the photo
23:08may not be doctored,
23:09McCarthy says
23:10this irregularity
23:11leads him to believe
23:12that the photo
23:13is actually staged.
23:14You see,
23:15if there was
23:16a window here
23:17and this object
23:18was actually
23:19inside a room
23:20and being backlit
23:21by the sky
23:22that was behind
23:23it outside,
23:24then that would
23:25explain why
23:25it was more shadowed
23:26closer to the observer.
23:28In fact,
23:29McCarthy demonstrates
23:29this by staging
23:31his own photo
23:32with an ordinary
23:32lens cap
23:33playing the part
23:34of the UFO.
23:35That's why I think
23:36the way this was
23:37captured
23:38was by placing
23:39an object
23:39on a window
23:40and taking
23:41a photo of it.
23:42our verdict?
23:48The Polaroid may be staged,
23:50but the original
23:51sighting out of Fife
23:52is still unexplained
23:54in our book.
23:55And if the anonymous
23:56photographer behind
23:57the Polaroid is watching,
23:58feel free to come forward
24:00and prove us wrong.
24:04The Nephilim
24:05are biblical giants
24:06mentioned in the book
24:07of Enoch.
24:08They're usually understood
24:09to be merely
24:10legendary beings,
24:11but could the discovery
24:13of what some believe
24:14is a massive human finger
24:15prove that these giants
24:17once existed?
24:191988,
24:21beer hooker, Egypt.
24:22Gregor Spari,
24:23a Swiss entrepreneur
24:25and ancient Egyptian
24:26aficionado,
24:27meets a local bartender
24:28with knowledge
24:29of black market archaeology.
24:31He introduces Spari
24:33to an elderly
24:33grave robber
24:34named Naguib,
24:36who shows Spari
24:37a rag
24:37with this wrapped in it.
24:39It looks like
24:40a massive,
24:40mummified human finger.
24:42Naguib allows Spari
24:44to hold the finger,
24:45and he determines
24:46it must be
24:47an enormous
24:4713 and 3 quarters inches long
24:50and about
24:502 and a half inches thick.
24:52Let's get a closer look.
24:54We see what looks like
24:55broken bone,
24:57as well as a knuckle
24:58and even a fingernail.
25:00The finger is allegedly
25:01several centuries old
25:03and appears to have
25:04been cut off
25:05with something sharp.
25:07Remnants of fungus
25:08are visible,
25:09and there appears
25:10to be bite marks
25:11from rats or mice.
25:13Field researcher
25:14Ken Gerhardt
25:15explains that
25:16there are numerous
25:16legends throughout time
25:18suggesting that
25:19the ancient pyramids
25:20were actually constructed
25:21by giants.
25:22In 1821,
25:24a French mineralogist
25:25by the name
25:25of Frederic Cailloux
25:27was the first
25:28to research
25:28the Nubian pyramids
25:30of Moroie,
25:30and he actually
25:31discovered
25:32a depiction
25:33of a giant man
25:35carrying two elephants
25:36on his shoulders.
25:38So we're talking
25:38about full-grown
25:39African elephants here.
25:41Based on the size
25:42of this finger,
25:43one could speculate
25:44that its owner
25:45would be somewhere
25:46in the neighborhood
25:47of 15 feet tall,
25:49an actual giant.
25:51So this would indicate
25:52the possibility
25:53that the pyramids
25:55were actually constructed
25:56by immense,
25:58giant humans.
25:58We can also recall
26:01the notes
26:02of the Roman historian
26:03Flavius Josephus,
26:05who wrote about
26:05these ancient giants
26:07of Egypt
26:07and noted that
26:08the last Egyptian giants
26:10died out
26:10during the time
26:11of Joshua
26:12from the Bible.
26:13He wrote that
26:14these giants were
26:15amazing to look at,
26:17but very terrifying
26:19to listen to
26:20due to the nature
26:21of their loud,
26:22booming voices,
26:23which almost sounded
26:24like lions roaring.
26:28Well, Egypt may have
26:31had at least one giant.
26:33Experts recently analyzed
26:34an unusually large
26:35set of skeletal remains
26:36that were found
26:37in a tomb
26:38almost 5,000 years old.
26:40Some believe these bones
26:41belong to the Egyptian
26:43pharaoh Sanat
26:44and may show
26:45the first ever case
26:46of the hormonal disorder,
26:49acromegaly,
26:50otherwise known
26:51as gigantism.
26:52But does this finger
26:54make that skeleton
26:55seem small?
26:56We asked our experts.
27:03Anthropologist
27:03Kathy Strain
27:04says the hormonal disorder
27:06acromegaly
27:07is responsible
27:07for the height
27:08of people like
27:09Robert Wadlow,
27:10who stood a record
27:11holding 8 foot 11,
27:13but that's still
27:14way too short
27:14to match this finger.
27:16People have been
27:17making the case
27:17for true giants
27:18in the United States
27:19for years,
27:20but they may be
27:21little more
27:22than tall tales.
27:24During the 20th century,
27:25there were rumors
27:26going around
27:27that archaeologists
27:28at the time
27:29were finding
27:29all these giant skeletons.
27:32Giants
27:33in the Native American
27:34community
27:35would grow
27:35to somewhere
27:36like 7 or 8
27:37or 9 feet tall,
27:39but when we look
27:40at those facts,
27:41when we go
27:41to the Smithsonian
27:42and try to see
27:43those amazing skeletons,
27:45they always end up
27:46being hoaxes.
27:47and so there's
27:49no proof
27:50whatsoever
27:51that anybody
27:52taller than
27:53almost 9 feet tall
27:54ever existed.
27:56Professor of anatomy
27:57Jeff Meldrum
27:58says a creature
27:59exceeding 15 feet tall
28:01wouldn't look
28:02very human.
28:03Well, the human
28:04anatomy
28:05and physiology
28:06essentially stretched
28:08over this
28:08exaggerated
28:09skeletal framework
28:10comes up short.
28:12organ failures
28:13and other problems
28:15of circulation,
28:17joints.
28:18These individuals
28:19usually die prematurely.
28:21You can't take a mouse
28:23and enlarge it
28:25to the size
28:25of an elephant.
28:26It just would not work.
28:28If humans
28:29can't achieve
28:30giant status,
28:31then where did
28:32this mummified finger
28:32come from?
28:33If, in fact,
28:34this digit
28:35were simply mummified,
28:38it would have lost
28:39a lot more
28:40fatty tissue
28:41through the
28:42mummification process.
28:44And so the
28:45plump appearance
28:46of this
28:47brown,
28:49aged-looking
28:50digit
28:51would
28:51be gone.
28:53It would be
28:54essentially
28:55just a brown,
28:57leathery skin
28:58stretched over
28:59the skeleton
29:00of a finger.
29:01How was the finger
29:02constructed then?
29:04According to his story,
29:05Spari was allowed
29:06to hold and photograph
29:07this mysterious object,
29:09but was forbidden
29:10to take it anywhere
29:11for further examination.
29:12A careful seamstress
29:14could, you know,
29:15create something
29:16that's quite convincing.
29:18I can imagine
29:19some materials
29:19that could emulate
29:20the appearance
29:21of an ancient
29:22fingernail
29:24and could easily
29:25be crafted
29:26onto the
29:28artificial finger
29:29in a rather
29:30convincing way,
29:31especially if
29:32close examination
29:33was denied
29:34consistently.
29:35So our verdict,
29:42we're going to
29:43have to call
29:43this a hoax.
29:45Without the x-ray,
29:46we can't say
29:46there's any
29:47solid proof
29:48giants ever
29:48roam the earth.
29:49Like Mildrem said,
29:51it just anatomically
29:52doesn't seem feasible
29:53that humans
29:54could grow
29:54to that size.
29:55But if you have
29:56any evidence
29:57to the contrary,
29:58let us know
29:58and we promise
29:59we will not
30:00give you the finger.
30:00Occasionally,
30:08reports of
30:08unidentified flying
30:09objects emerge
30:10from the same
30:11geographic area
30:12for no apparent
30:13reason.
30:14It turns out
30:15Medellin, Colombia
30:16has become
30:17one of those places
30:18and our next video
30:19may be more proof
30:20that something strange
30:22is happening
30:23in South America.
30:24June 2020,
30:26near Medellin, Colombia,
30:28Juan Morales
30:29is hanging out
30:29with his cousin
30:30when a strange light
30:31in the sky
30:31suddenly grabs
30:32his attention.
30:33He rushes
30:34through the window
30:34and captures this.
30:36A small string
30:37of light floats
30:38above the hills
30:39in the night sky.
30:40Zooming in
30:41reveals what appears
30:42to be a rectangular
30:43object lit by
30:44four green
30:45orb-like lights.
30:47Whatever it is,
30:48Juan and his cousin
30:50can't contain
30:50their astonishment.
30:51He's doing the same
30:53as I am.
30:53I don't see
30:54but look!
30:56I have a pig's
30:56head.
30:57He's doing the same.
30:58He's doing the same.
30:58He's doing the same.
30:58He's doing the same.
30:58He's doing the same.
30:58He's doing the same.
30:59He's doing the same.
30:59We really think
31:00that was really
31:02UFO because
31:04it didn't move
31:05and when it
31:06disappeared,
31:07it disappeared
31:08in a second.
31:09This sighting
31:10isn't just
31:11a random occurrence.
31:12In fact,
31:13a more recent
31:14sighting over Medellin
31:15that we plan
31:16to analyze
31:16on a future show
31:17is now being touted
31:18as some of the best
31:19UFO footage ever.
31:21A pilot
31:21saw a strange object
31:23outside of his aircraft
31:25and was able
31:25to film it
31:26with his cell phone.
31:28The craft races past
31:29at a stunning speed
31:30but appears to be
31:31a metallic sphere
31:32with a point
31:33on either end.
31:34That particular video
31:36went viral
31:37and people
31:38all over the internet
31:39were commenting
31:40about whether
31:41this was
31:42some sort of
31:43alien spacecraft
31:44because of its
31:44strange shape
31:45and how it moved
31:46through the air.
31:47So have the aliens
31:48re-emerged
31:49over Colombia?
31:54But others believe
31:55these aerial sightings
31:57are connected
31:57to a far more
31:58earthly concern.
32:00We know that
32:01within recent years
32:02with the shift
32:03in drone technology
32:04becoming quite cheap,
32:05drug cartels
32:06are utilizing drones
32:07to essentially
32:09deliver or traffic
32:10drugs across borders
32:12or into other countries
32:12or locally.
32:13So there has been
32:14some speculation
32:15that this particular
32:16video actually
32:18shows a Colombian
32:19cartel's use of a drone
32:21to traffic drugs
32:22into the area.
32:25A spike in UFO sightings
32:27in 2014
32:28earned Medellin
32:30the honor of UFO
32:31hotspot status.
32:33But will our experts
32:35be able to identify
32:36this strange object
32:37in the Colombian skies?
32:39first, is this craft
32:45just something
32:45we see all the time?
32:47Could our green disc
32:48simply be a passing airplane?
32:50There doesn't appear
32:51to be any kind of motion
32:53whatsoever
32:53with the object.
32:54And then the fact
32:55that it doesn't have
32:56the navigation
32:57slides
32:58like you would expect
32:59on an aircraft,
33:00you'd see some potentially
33:01other kind of colors
33:02like white or red
33:03maybe on the object.
33:05But there's nothing
33:06that makes me believe
33:07that it's an aircraft.
33:08But maybe it's
33:09a cartel drone.
33:11Cartel drones
33:12seized by the
33:13Colombian military
33:14had the ability
33:15to carry 22 pounds
33:16of cocaine
33:17and could travel
33:18about 60 miles
33:19in a single trip.
33:20But those drones
33:21were transporting drugs
33:23over the border
33:24to Panama,
33:25not in cities.
33:26Which is one reason
33:27why Mark D'Antonio
33:28doesn't think
33:28the theory makes sense.
33:30If you were a drug smuggler,
33:32would you have a drone
33:32with big bright lights
33:33on it up in the sky?
33:35And probably not.
33:36If so,
33:37the drug smugglers
33:38are pretty imbecilic.
33:41He thinks the lights
33:42also rule out
33:43any legitimate use.
33:44Drones have mandated lighting,
33:46so you would see
33:47some red lights
33:48and some green lights.
33:49You have to have
33:50those lights
33:51in order to fly.
33:52It doesn't look to me
33:53a drone
33:54with known lighting
33:55configuration
33:55that I've seen.
33:56So are we looking
33:57at something
33:58from beyond our world?
34:00In determining UFO activity,
34:01experts look for traits
34:03called the five observables
34:05as seen in the UFOs
34:06recorded by the U.S. military.
34:08Anti-gravity capabilities,
34:10instantaneous acceleration,
34:12hypersonic velocity,
34:14low observability,
34:15and finally,
34:16the ability to move
34:18in space, air, and water.
34:20Of the observables,
34:22it's very indistinct.
34:23You can't make out
34:24anything in terms of
34:25other than the lights
34:26to be able to determine
34:27if it had any control
34:28surfaces on it.
34:29The fact that it didn't
34:30make any kind of things
34:31like hypersonic speed,
34:33it wasn't transmedium.
34:35There's nothing
34:35that calls out
34:36that it's like,
34:37you know,
34:38the big mothership
34:39from another planet
34:40that's coming down.
34:41However,
34:42DeAntonio believes
34:43he sees a clue
34:44to the object's identity
34:45not in the lights,
34:46but its shape.
34:47This could be
34:48a delta wing
34:49where we're missing
34:49a couple of the lights
34:51because they're sort of
34:52foreshortened in our view
34:53along the line
34:54of this side here.
34:56A delta wing
34:57is a triangular
34:58swept-back airplane wing
34:59named for its similarity
35:00to the uppercase
35:01Greek letter delta.
35:03And what kind
35:03of delta wing thing
35:04do we have
35:05that we fly in the air
35:07and it's relatively stationary?
35:08Well, a kite.
35:11DeAntonio thinks
35:12the surrounding landscape
35:13seals the deal.
35:15This is bright green
35:15throughout,
35:16so it's somewhat
35:16closer to us.
35:17When they zoom out,
35:18there's some fields
35:19down here.
35:20It would probably be
35:21close to 300 feet
35:23off the ground.
35:24Based on the size
35:24of the details
35:25in this area down here
35:26and looking at the size
35:28of street lamps
35:28and windows
35:29with a delta wing kite
35:30of about four feet
35:31across,
35:32it would actually
35:33fit this profile
35:33if it was over
35:34that field down below.
35:41Our verdict?
35:42While we think
35:43DeAntonio's reasoning
35:44that this is a lit up kite
35:46with green bulbs
35:47is sound,
35:48in our minds
35:49the image is just
35:50too far away
35:51and indistinct
35:52to come to
35:52a definitive conclusion.
35:54So we're going to say
35:55this is an unidentified object,
35:58at least for now.
36:01Finally tonight,
36:02this story may be proved
36:04that two heads
36:05are not necessarily
36:06better than one.
36:07Take a look.
36:09September 27, 2008.
36:11Commercial fisherman
36:12Christopher Johnston
36:13is working in the Indian Ocean
36:15off the coast
36:15of West Australia.
36:17After catching
36:18a pregnant blue shark,
36:19his crew cuts it open
36:20to release her pups
36:22back into the ocean.
36:23But of the many
36:24offspring released,
36:25one swims
36:26ahead of the rest.
36:28Take a look
36:28at this peculiar creature.
36:30It's got one tail
36:31and seems to have
36:32normal pelvic fins.
36:33But at the dorsal fin,
36:35things start to get
36:36a little strange.
36:36It splits in half
36:38into two heads,
36:39complete with two mouths,
36:41four eyes,
36:41and four narres,
36:43or nostrils.
36:44This certainly isn't
36:45the only time
36:46a two-headed shark
36:47has been found.
36:47In fact,
36:48sightings of two-headed sharks
36:50seem to be on the rise
36:51in recent years.
36:52In 2011,
36:53a two-headed bull shark fetus
36:55was found off the coast
36:57of the Florida Keys.
36:58These cases seem to be
36:59popping up all over the globe.
37:01Back in 2020,
37:03a living two-headed shark
37:04was even caught
37:05off the coast of India.
37:06According to Gerhard,
37:07this strange
37:08and possibly growing phenomenon
37:10isn't exclusive
37:11to sharks alone.
37:12There have been examples
37:13of two-headed porpoises
37:15or dolphins
37:15that have been found
37:16in recent years as well.
37:17It's worth noting
37:18that in mythology
37:19and folklore,
37:21multi-headed animals
37:22are often revered
37:24or looked at
37:24as being magical.
37:26In Greek mythology,
37:27we have Cerberus.
37:28In Romanian folklore,
37:30the Bolaour
37:31is a multi-headed dragon.
37:34And even in Chinese tradition,
37:35we have something
37:36called the nine-headed bird.
37:38So the theme
37:39of a multi-headed monster
37:41or animal
37:42seems to be prevalent
37:44all around the world.
37:45And it's a fair presumption
37:47that these different traditions
37:48were inspired
37:49by encounters
37:51with multi-headed animals
37:52like this one.
37:55Longtime viewers
37:56of this show
37:57may remember this guy,
37:59a two-headed snake
38:00affectionately named
38:01Double Trouble.
38:03Against all odds,
38:04he thrived with his owner.
38:06There was only one
38:07Double Trouble, though.
38:09There have been multiple
38:10two-headed shark sightings.
38:13Should we be worried
38:14about an underwater army
38:15of two-headed sharks?
38:17Let's see what our experts think.
38:23Marine biologist
38:24Shea Steingass
38:25says a creature
38:26like this one
38:26would not live very long
38:28in the unforgiving waters
38:29of the deep.
38:30You have two completely
38:32differently formed
38:33central nervous systems
38:35in terms of
38:36the head
38:38and brain.
38:40So this animal
38:41is taking two sets
38:42of stimuli in
38:44at once.
38:45And in addition,
38:46the normal
38:46streamlined structure
38:48of a shark
38:49isn't present here.
38:50So instead of moving
38:51smoothly through the water,
38:53this animal
38:53is going to encounter
38:54a lot of turbulence
38:55and a lot of water pressure
38:57just trying to navigate
38:58its environment.
38:59However,
39:01we do know that
39:02seemingly against all odds,
39:04there have been
39:05some survivors
39:05such as the shark
39:06found back in India.
39:08And while the specific
39:09root cause for such
39:10a deformity
39:10may be hard to pin down,
39:12this condition
39:13does have a name.
39:14What I'm seeing here
39:15looks like a form
39:16of dicephaly,
39:18which means two heads.
39:20And this is actually
39:21a really well-known
39:22genetic malformity
39:24that happens
39:24when twins
39:25do not separate correctly.
39:28This isn't
39:29a positive adaptation.
39:31In fact,
39:32it's evolutionarily
39:34detrimental.
39:36So what is it exactly
39:37that's creating
39:38these two-headed terrors?
39:39Steingas believes
39:40pollution
39:41is a definite possibility.
39:43We have to remember
39:44that our rivers
39:45and streams
39:45drain to the ocean.
39:47So these animals
39:48are literally swimming
39:49in industrial chemicals,
39:51a lot of which
39:52we don't even know
39:53about yet.
39:54so it's possible
39:56that pollution
39:57could have caused
39:58this type of deformity,
40:00but it's also possible
40:01that things like
40:02changing ocean temperatures
40:03could contribute
40:05to animals
40:06not developing correctly.
40:08On top of global warming,
40:10the excessive fishing
40:11of our oceans
40:12might be contributing
40:13to a smaller gene pool.
40:15We've also fished out
40:16a lot of our oceans,
40:18and that includes sharks.
40:19They don't have
40:20the same genetic diversity
40:22that they used to.
40:23In some species,
40:24there were only
40:25a few dozen animals left.
40:27So all of that
40:28genetic complexity
40:29and all of those
40:31beneficial adaptations
40:32that the species
40:34had before,
40:35they're actually
40:36kind of inbred now,
40:37and they're maybe
40:38less likely
40:39to thrive and survive.
40:48Our verdict,
40:49this is an example
40:50of dicephaly.
40:51A genetic mutation
40:53that can be caused
40:54by a multitude of factors,
40:56from overfishing
40:57to pollution.
40:58While the specific cause
40:59for this particular case
41:01can't be nailed down,
41:02there doesn't seem
41:03to be anything
41:04unexplainable here,
41:06just an unfortunate example
41:07of man's negative impact
41:09on the Earth's oceans.
41:11And that's our show
41:12for tonight.
41:13Thank you so much
41:14for watching,
41:15and as always,
41:16remember to keep
41:17those cameras rolling.
41:19the Earth's oceans and
41:20the Earth's oceans,
41:21the Earth's oceans.
41:21That's our show
41:22for tonight.
