00:00Welcome to the video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog, where today we will present you
00:12with an exciting comparison between the first generation Dacia Duster from 2010 and the current
00:17third generation from 2024. You can find the link to read the article in our magazine in the video
00:23description. Back in 2010, Dacia launched the Duster, an extremely affordable SUV that combined
00:33robust features with an almost unbeatable entry-level price range. While prices at that
00:40time started at just under €12,000 and rose to just over €18,000 depending on the equipment,
00:46the new model has become more expensive, but with a base price of €8,950 it still remains a price
00:52breaker among SUVs. But first things first, the first generation was a special highlight for Daya,
01:02as the Duster was also the first all-wheel drive vehicle from Romania and the brand's sixth model
01:06overall. At the driving presentation in Marrakesh, the name Duster quickly became synonymous with the
01:14English word for dust, as the vehicle was ideally suited for rough terrain with its wide flanks,
01:19a good 20 cm of ground clearance, large wheels and sturdy underbody protection elements.
01:26Thanks to favorable approach and ramp angles as well as decent forwarding depth and climbing ability,
01:31even inexperienced drivers were able to tackle more difficult off-road terrain.
01:37Three driving modes were available at the touch of a button in the 4 Series version,
01:41front-wheel drive for normal conditions, automatic power distribution when traction decreases and a
01:46fixed all-wheel drive mode for muddy or snowy roads. At just under four and a half meters long,
01:55the Duster was very compact, weighing between 200 and 1,300 kg and offering surprisingly generous
02:01interior space. The seats were slightly elevated, had good all-round visibility and, depending on the
02:09version, could stow up to 475 L of luggage with the rear seat folded up. If you folded down the rear seat
02:16completely, you could even manage over 1,600 L. The engines came from the Renault range, a 1.6-liter
02:23petrol engine with 105 horsepower and two 1.5-liter turbodiesels with 86 or 110 horsepower.
02:29The latter ensured economy and decent pulling power, as the Duster reached a top speed of between 150
02:37and 170 kilometers per hour, depending on the engine. Those who wanted to drive off-road more
02:44often could also rely on the new six-speed manual transmission, which had a particularly short first
02:50gear. In terms of safety, there were front airbags, abs in preparation for child seats, while an electronic
02:58stability program was only offered as an option for the more powerful diesel.
03:05The first-generation Duster also won over many fans with its rather simple but honest equipment.
03:12Now in 2025, the third generation has been on the market for a while.
03:18Externally, the Duster 3 looks much more mature and high-quality and, according to many observers,
03:23even takes its cues from Land Rover or Volvo and in a positive way.
03:28The designers have remained true to themselves and have retained typical details such as the side
03:34snorkel attachment and the protective strips around the vehicle. At the same time, however,
03:39the overall appearance has been refined. The body measures 4.34 meters in length, 81 meters in width and,
03:48at 1.660 meters high, is 3 centimeters lower than its direct predecessor.
03:56The interior now offers slightly more elbow room, more legroom in row 2 and a trunk that has been
04:01enlarged to 4 seats. This shows that the Duster has lost none of its practicality.
04:09Dia has also thought of modern multimedia requirements. In the higher trim levels, there is a 10.1 inch
04:15central display that is slightly angled towards the driver's seat, as well as a 7-inch instrument
04:20cluster behind the steering wheel. The menu layout remains functional, but at least Apple CarPlay now
04:26works wirelessly. In terms of quality, the new Duster is not a luxury car, but it does appear solidly built.
04:35Hard plastics dominate the interior, but they leave a robust and by no means cheap impression,
04:40especially in the journey and extreme trim levels.
04:45Dacia also scores points with practical solutions such as the ULIP fastening system,
04:50which enables flexible holders for bags, smartphones or tablets.
04:55For camping enthusiasts, the sleep pack offers a well-thought-out option.
04:59A bed with storage space and a storage table can be installed in no time at all.
05:03A lot has changed on the engine side since 2010. The entry-level 1.5-liter diesel with 86 or 110 horsepower
05:12has been replaced by modern alternatives. Instead, Dacia relies on the Eco G100 LPG unit with two tanks of
05:20A50L petrol and gas, which is said to enable an impressive range of up to 1,300 kilometers.
05:26A new addition is a mild hybrid 1.2-liter three-cylinder with 130 horsepower, which is optionally available
05:35with a four-wheel drive and aims for a consumption of 5.5L per 100 kilometers.
05:42The highlight is the full hybrid version with 140 horsepower, which consists of a 1.6-liter naturally
05:48aspirated engine, a 49-horsepower electric motor and a starter generator. According to the manufacturer,
05:55fuel consumption is only 4.8 to 4.7L per 100 kilometers.
06:01The all-wheel drive remains in the range and offers five driving modes as well as helpful
06:05displays for inclines, declines and body roll. For additional comfort, the ground clearance has
06:11been slightly increased, which makes it easier to get in and improves off-road capabilities.
06:16The Duster 3 has also made some progress in terms of assistance systems.
06:20The city emergency brake assist detects vehicles and pedestrians, while the traffic sign recognition
06:26and speed warning systems offer important support functions.
06:31The range is supplemented by lane-keeping assist, fatigue detection and adaptive brake lights.
06:36This brings Dacia closer to the competition without compromising on the brand's core values,
06:43affordable pricing and no unnecessary extras.
06:48The Duster remains an honest SUV that delivers exactly what its customers need.
