All right, hanging out in the locker with quarterback Russell Wilson.
00:03
Russ, I mean, you've dealt with the business of this game before.
00:07
Long-time vet in this league, had a lot of success in the league.
00:10
Like, how is it handling this side of the business different this time around?
00:14
Well, I think, obviously, there's a few things.
00:15
First of all, you never want to see Coach Dave go.
00:18
You know, he's been a tremendous part of just why we're all here.
00:22
You know, and I think he's just a tremendous coach,
00:24
guy who won Coach of the Year not too long ago.
00:25
And, you know, we lost four close games.
00:29
You know, the Dallas game, we took the lead with 23 seconds left.
00:32
It's like, you know, we lose that one.
00:33
And then, you know, the Saints game, we feel like we could have won on the road,
00:37
the lead that we had.
00:38
And then, you know, I think that, you know, we think about Denver game,
00:41
we definitely should have won that one as well.
00:43
And then the Bears game.
00:44
So, you know, when you lose four tough games on the road, it's never easy for anyone.
00:48
And I know it's not easy for any of these coaches,
00:50
and it's not easy for me too in this position.
00:52
But, however, you know, it's about each other.
00:54
It's about the team, and it's about leading and loving.
00:57
And, man, I love this game.
00:58
I'm obsessed with it.
00:59
I know I've still got a lot more ball left in me, I believe.
01:01
And I know what I'm capable of.
01:03
I think I showed that in Dallas.
01:04
And I just needed another opportunity.
01:06
And I'm just, you know, just staying prepared and staying ready to rock and roll.
01:09
You know, it was cool to get back in the game the other day, you know,
01:11
in the Bears game just to drive us all the way down the field.
01:13
We got down to the 1-1 yard line.
01:14
We didn't go for it, unfortunately.
01:16
But, you know, just we felt like we were doing what we needed to do to help us win.
01:20
And, you know, it just didn't work our way.
01:23
But to go from the high, what you guys were experiencing through the summer
01:26
and then, obviously, through the preseason, scoring all those points,
01:31
and then, you know, you go on through the season, you lose neighbors, you lose Scadaboo.
01:35
You being a leader, and, again, you've been in this business for a long time,
01:39
how do you keep the spirits high in the locker room right now
01:42
as they're going through some of these new guys going through the transition
01:45
of new coach, quarterback change?
01:48
Like, how do you keep the positive vibes in this locker room?
01:51
Well, I think, first of all, you've got to have love for each other.
01:54
Second of all, you've got to have love for the game.
01:56
And, ultimately, your love has to be so pure that it's unconditional.
02:00
Okay.
02:01
You know, you've got to have unconditional love
02:03
and understanding that it's not going to –
02:06
my passion and love for one another and my passion and love for the game
02:10
isn't going to waver based on the circumstances,
02:12
no matter how much I'm getting praised and how much people are talking about you.
02:15
And, you know, there's a slight difference between praise and criticism, right?
02:20
You win, you win, you know, the Dallas game, you win this game,
02:23
you win – make a play here or there.
02:25
Everything's different.
02:25
We're 6-4, right?
02:28
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:28
It's 6-4.
02:29
And that's several plays here and there.
02:31
And I think, you know, people want to, you know, you know,
02:34
they want to talk crap about you.
02:38
But it's just like, man, like, one play here, one play there.
02:41
And that's just the way of life goes.
02:43
Do you see the crap or hear the crap spoke about this team and about you?
02:47
And, like, how do you respond to that?
02:48
Well, I'm not sure if the team's used to it as much.
02:51
I'm used to it.
02:53
I've heard everything.
02:54
I've also been on the mountaintop.
02:56
I've been in the valley.
02:57
You know, I'm still climbing.
02:58
And I just know that, you know, you're climbing a mountain.
03:02
There's going to be some times that you get stuck there
03:04
and you're on base camp too.
03:06
And you've got to keep climbing.
03:07
And that's what I'm going to keep doing.
03:08
I've got no other option to do that because I love the game too much.
03:12
And I know what I'm capable of.
03:14
From when you signed here, I mean, you took the fan base over by storm.
03:18
Nick's game, signing the football, throwing it up to the fan base.
03:22
And then remember we had the fan event at American Dream, riding this high.
03:27
Did you expect this type of adversity after coming out of that spring and summer?
03:31
No, but I think that you always know adversity is coming at some point.
03:35
And I think how you handle it.
03:38
You know, life is about response.
03:39
It's not, I go to the children's hospital every Tuesday.
03:42
And, you know, I think as a young kid, as you meet them, a young 17-year-old girl
03:47
or 16-year-old boy who's got their life in front of them
03:50
and, you know, they're playing sports and everything's going their way,
03:54
they're not expecting for adversity to come, you know, that morning or that day
03:58
when they get diagnosed with cancer.
03:59
You know what I mean?
04:00
And so when you're doing everything you can and you get, I don't know why,
04:07
diagnosed with a tough situation, whatever that is, you know,
04:10
it's how you respond to it.
04:12
And I think, you know, I'm always going to respond in the right way.
04:15
That's all I know.
04:16
And I'm just going to keep fighting and keep crawling and climbing
04:19
and whatever I got to do.
04:21
And I think that's what's important.
04:22
Lastly, before Jameis steps on the field on Sunday,
04:26
what are you going to say to him?
04:27
Man, just be you, man.
04:28
God's with you.
04:29
You know, hey, God's always with him and with us.
04:31
And just I know he's going to do a great job.
04:33
I appreciate you, Russ.
04:34
Appreciate it.
04:35
Yeah, thanks, brother.
