00:00All right, Brian Dable officially had the announcement that Russell Wilson is going to get to start week two against the Cowboys.
00:06After a poor performance by the Giants offense against the Commanders week one,
00:10Russ was absolutely harassed and pressured the entire game, and he nor the offense could really get going.
00:17The offense line didn't play as well as they did throughout training camp in the preseason.
00:22So here's a couple plays I have for you guys that they're going to need to clean up heading into Dallas
00:28to get Russ and the offense cooking again in your Blue Rush film breakdown.
00:36All right, let's break down how the offensive line needs to get better going into week two against the Cowboys
00:45because Russell Wilson needs time to cook.
00:47And this is, I'm just going to go ahead and say it, I'm not trying to knock the Giants offensive line.
00:52These guys are professional athletes.
00:54They've watched the tape themselves.
00:56They know what they have to get better at going into week two, going down to Dallas.
01:00Russ needs time to push the football down the field, and he just needs time to complete passes to get into some sort of rhythm.
01:07So let's watch this first play.
01:08It was an incomplete pass on the first and 10, tried to get the ball to Malik Nabors down the field.
01:13The Giants pretty much had max protection here with the tight ends chipping.
01:19So let's watch the play.
01:20Then we'll break it down, and we'll go to the tight formation as well, the tight as well.
01:26Boom.
01:27You see Russ get hit.
01:28He's not able to throw the football down the field to Malik Nabors.
01:31I don't know what you're watching, but let's watch one more time when it comes to the offensive line play to the left,
01:37and then we'll go to the tight.
01:39So watch here to the left.
01:41The commanders are only rushing four.
01:43The Giants have eight in to block, and I'll break that down more when we get to the tight.
01:50But you see the spillage here.
01:52Russ isn't able to step into the throw and complete a pass.
01:58I went to a lot of the practices, not only in the spring or in the training camp.
02:03This was a ball they completed nine times out of ten.
02:07They run this little out route from this tight split, this close split by the receivers.
02:14This is a bread and butter in the Giants' offense.
02:16But what we're going to be watching is the left side of the offensive line.
02:20Right now, again, max protection.
02:22They're keeping in eight.
02:24One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
02:28But the thing they're going to do here with the tight ends, they're going to chip the ends,
02:32and they're releasing to the flats because you don't just want to keep guys in.
02:37If you keep in eight, you're only able to get two in the route concept.
02:41They're dropping seven if they rush four.
02:44So it's two on seven, eight on four almost here.
02:50But right here, you kind of got a three on two or two and a half versus two
02:54because, again, Manhurts is going to chip and release.
02:57So we're watching this left side here between Runyon and Hudson Jr.
03:02Let's bring that back.
03:08So right now, you're getting a T-E stunt.
03:12Tackle goals first, and then the end comes next.
03:15The end loops around.
03:17So Runyon and Hudson, they've got the double team here,
03:23knowing that there's going to be some sort of chip block on the end.
03:26Hudson's eyes go straight out to that defensive end.
03:29And Runyon's trying to push him, push him there, expecting, waiting for help here
03:35so he can handle whatever else he needs to handle towards the inside.
03:41Hudson's eyes are still on the end,
03:45and he's not getting his eyes back on this tackle here to help out on the double.
03:51Now you've got some space in between this double team here.
03:56And this gives Kinlaw, Javon Kinlaw, the ability to split this double team and get here after Russ.
04:05Hudson's a little high, gets pushed back.
04:08Runyon has no work here, so there's no need for him to turn around yet.
04:12This looper is late.
04:13This looper is like a second line or second level blitzer almost.
04:19You can get your run.
04:20You can get his eyes to that late.
04:22But he's having to hold on here a little bit too much while he's trying to get Hudson to take over
04:30so he can loop back around, so he can get his eyes back around and catch the looper.
04:35They're late.
04:37Hudson's late getting back to the inside to close that inside.
04:41If anything, you want to lose that defender going towards the outside
04:45because that gives Russ a lane to step up in.
04:48The pocket would be clean if it wasn't for this leakage here.
04:53He's not able to throw.
04:55He's not able to step into the throw to make that throw from this hash over to outside the numbers
05:0115 to 20 yards down the field.
05:06It's max protection, so you're going to push the route.
05:09You're going to allow the route to go even deeper.
05:12Russ is getting hit here.
05:16Watch it one more time.
05:17So this is something that they're going to have to clean up going into week two
05:21because it's a copycat league.
05:23If one team does it and they're successful with it,
05:27another team is going to watch it and they run the same stuff.
05:31A TE stunt is a TE stunt.
05:34Everyone runs it throughout the course of the NFL.
05:36But Russ isn't able to step into the football.
05:40Unfortunate.
05:41Incomplete.
05:42And you see how much he was still able to get on the football.
05:46Look at where he's getting hit.
05:48Look at where the football drops.
05:49That's a 5, 10, 15, 20.
05:5320-yard throw.
05:54But add on extra yardage because he's throwing it outside of the numbers.
06:02Still almost gets it there.
06:04So again, that's something that the Giants offensive line is going to have to clean up
06:08going in to week two because the Giants love pushing the football down the field.
06:14All right.
06:15I got another one for you guys.
06:16And I went straight to the tight on this one because I want you to read.
06:19The communication all around has to get better.
06:23And they have to tighten that up because, again, you're going on the road in Dallas.
06:27It's going to be loud.
06:29You see here the snap crowd.
06:30You're going off of the snap crowd where Van Roten looks back, taps the center,
06:36and they'll snap it.
06:39It's kind of like a silent count because it's loud.
06:41Guys can't hear it.
06:42But I want you to watch the sequence play out here.
06:47And then I'll rewind it.
06:55All right.
06:55This was second and 10.
06:57This is the very next play after the play that I showed you guys before.
07:02So we got the motion.
07:03Like this is day one stuff with the motion.
07:07So I don't know if the communication got lost in the huddle.
07:10But for some reason, Theo Johnson looks a little confused on what his assignment is.
07:17And when you're playing against defensive lines like the Commanders, the Eagles, the Cowboys,
07:23just the NFC East in general, you got to have that communication right
07:27so you can protect your quarterback so he can cook.
07:30So you see Russ kind of waving to him.
07:33Come on, Theo.
07:33Come on.
07:34You saw that there.
07:36Pointing.
07:37Theo.
07:37Come on.
07:38Come on.
07:38Come on.
07:38Look at Theo's hands as he gets a little bit past the center.
07:45We call that palms up.
07:47Palms up means like you're kind of confused on what it is you're supposed to be doing.
07:51The ball is snapped and he's over top of the guard.
07:56He's supposed to be out here to help chip again and then get out to the flats.
08:02But because there's a miscommunication here and he's late getting over to his spot,
08:09you see Hudson's getting ready for his kick slide.
08:12The ball is snapped.
08:13What happens here?
08:15Do we have a collision here?
08:17This collision, not only with the end or the tackle, I couldn't see which guy that was,
08:24with Hudson in the tackle and his teammate, throws Hudson off, creates that separation,
08:32and again, pocket is clean, but there's leakage right here on this side.
08:38Russ has to now get the ball out fast.
08:41Second and 10, boom.
08:43Now that puts you into a third and third and what?
08:46Five, third and four situation.
08:49So again, let's look.
08:50Let's look one more time.
08:52Again, the communication has to be there.
08:53Has to be there going into week two.
08:56But teams get better from week one to week two more than any other weeks in the NFL.
09:02So again, communication has got to be there.
09:08Put Russ in a bad spot.
09:10You see him get hit again.
09:12That's back-to-back plays of him getting hit.
09:15For all those analysts on ESPN that aren't watching tape,
09:21that are just calling for Jackson Dart to get the start,
09:24you tell me what quarterback is going to overcome getting hit in the mouth two times like that
09:30on bad communication from the offensive line and tight end
09:33or the guys that are supposed to be protecting you.
09:36You tell me who's going to overcome that
09:38and just make some sort of something out of nothing.
09:41Play in, play out.
09:42And you can even see Theo a little frustrated there.
09:45All right.
09:46This is the wide.
09:47So I flipped it.
09:48My bad, y'all.
09:49I flipped it.
09:49I showed the wide after so you guys can see the entire play.
09:54Again, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
09:59They're rushing four and they're dropping seven.
10:02One, two, three.
10:04Three people on the route because you're having to keep guys in to help protect the quarterback.
10:10Now, the guy that is open, this flat route, you'll take that any day as a defense.
10:16You got one guy catching the football, one, two, three, four here in the box.
10:20They're going to rally and make that tackle.
10:22That's a win for the defense right there.
10:24And putting them in a position to where now it's third and mid-range.
10:29All right.
10:30This is somewhat of a positive because they complete this ball to Malik neighbors.
10:36But again, it's another play where Russell Wilson gets hit in the mouth.
10:40It was hard for him to get comfortable this game.
10:43So, we're going to watch some Malik neighbors here on the, I like to call them slot fades, box routes is what we've called them in certain offenses that I've been in.
10:53We'll watch that.
10:54But we'll also watch Russell Wilson get hit in the mouth.
10:59I'll run it twice.
11:00I'll run it twice.
11:01And then, you know, let's watch this guy first.
11:04And then, we'll watch Malik.
11:09Come on, man.
11:11Great play by Malik.
11:13Great adjustment to the football.
11:16That's why we're expecting big things from him.
11:19We saw he and Dable kind of have a little dust up on the sideline.
11:24But both of these guys are competitors.
11:26I played with Plaxico Burris.
11:27We saw him blow up on the sideline from time to time back in 2007.
11:31I never thought of it as him being selfish or anything.
11:35I thought Plax played with a lot of passion.
11:37Both Brian Dable and Malik neighbors has passions.
11:40And plus, when you're the playmaker on the team and the offense is stale and you don't feel like you're getting a rock or you're getting your targets, you feel helpless.
11:49So, you're going to have, I guess, some frustrations.
11:52But you're going to try and pump guys up with your words because if you're not getting targets, you can't pump them up with your play.
11:57So, let's watch.
11:59Let's break this down.
12:00Then we'll kind of, we'll look at, we'll break down the route in the catch as well because I want to end with somewhat of a positive.
12:08Russ does get hit in the mouth here, but they complete the pass.
12:12All right.
12:13You got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
12:17You got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
12:21And then Tyrone Tracy Jr. is trying, they're trying to get the back out.
12:25This is the third quarter, I believe.
12:27They're down 11 points.
12:29You're trying to put some sort of drive together to put some well-needed points on the board.
12:35They didn't score a touchdown at all this game.
12:38So, we got this nickel wheel blitzing off the edge.
12:44Let's not go too deep in there because a lot of people don't know nickel wheels and all that.
12:48But he has a free rush.
12:49He is drooling at the mouth to go punch Russell Wilson in the face.
12:57We'll break that, we'll break that down on the tight.
12:59So, this is a man-to-man coverage.
13:03You've got him, man.
13:04He's man.
13:05He's blitzing.
13:06Bobby Wagner now has to buzz out, play inside on Wondell Robinson.
13:11He's not expecting Wondell to go deep because he knows with this blitz that's coming,
13:16ball may have to come out fast.
13:18So, he's just trying to play underneath and jump any sort of short route that Wondell may be running right here.
13:25But let's just, let's break this down because I'm on the wide.
13:31Russ still able to get that ball out.
13:33Great play by Malik.
13:35First down.
13:36But again, you never want your quarterback to be getting hit in the mouth like this.
13:41Break it down.
13:43Here we go.
13:43Now, you see him.
13:44You see the eyes here.
13:46Maybe Wondell could have gave a little bit more of an alert.
13:50Maybe, hey, alert, alert.
13:51He's creeping.
13:52He's eyeing.
13:53Whatever.
13:53Yeah, I'm playing Monday morning quarterback right now.
13:56But that is something as wide receivers in the receiver room, we may mention that.
14:01Hey, anytime you got some guys, guy up in your face like that, you got an off corner over here,
14:07maybe expect some sort of blitz, alert the tackle so they know.
14:11Who knows?
14:11Again, Monday morning quarterback.
14:13But at the end of the day, anything you can do as a receiver to try and help and alert the protection,
14:19that's only going to help you because it's going to give you time to get open and it's going to give your quarterback time to throw the football.
14:28So let's watch it here on this left side again.
14:30See them trying to figure out, is it man or is it zone?
14:36Does anybody go with Tyrone and Tracy Jr.?
14:38Are they moving with him?
14:40Are the backers bumping?
14:41No.
14:43They're trying to identify the coverage and what else could be coming.
14:46So now you've got the end, go up the field to draw the tackle, James Hudson Jr. here.
14:52You have to set center, takes D-tackle, guard, takes D-tackle, and we've got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
15:10This is an adjustment that they're going to have to make, again, going into Dallas because Dallas may run this same blitz.
15:18Could Russ have maybe slid the line to the protection?
15:23Maybe if he saw it, he could have slid the line and been able to protect himself.
15:28But, you know, I can't.
15:30I don't know what the protection call was exactly, so I can't make that assumption right now.
15:35But all I know is this has to be cleaned up because Russell Wilson does not want to be taking hits like that.
15:43So, again, I ask the people of ESPN and CBS Sports and everybody on social media who thinks that Jackson Dart, the rookie,
15:52would have just came in and just broken all these tackles and ran for a bajillion yards when you've got guys running free.
16:01Running free at your quarterback, trying to take his head off.
16:05Again, big play by Malik Nabors, didn't get the double coverage.
16:11They were able to complete that pass.
16:13But going forward, this is something, this offensive line and the protection is what the Giants are going to have to work on
16:21going into week two against the Dallas Cowboys if they want to get any production out of whatever quarterback that's back there.
16:29But, again, if the Giants want to go into Dallas and beat the Cowboys on their home turf, they're going to have to clean up the protection.
16:41They're going to have to protect whichever quarterback is back there because we saw, again, throughout preseason and training camp,
16:49when the quarterbacks, Russell Wilson, Jackson Dart, Jameis Winston, when they're protected,
16:55there are weapons on the outside for them to do some damage and them to do some work against these other teams.
17:02All right, appreciate you guys watching this week's big blue film breakdown.
17:06Hopefully next week we can break down the dub and I can show you why the Giants' offense was cooking
17:11and why they could be one of the top offenses in their division.
17:14But first, first things first, protect the quarterback, let them cook.
17:19Let's go Giants.
