00:00I quite like wearing kind of oversized or like repurposing menswear

00:03They've got loads of nice ladies blouses essentially

00:06And then we've got the pavement hat

00:10What is with the Oakleys?

00:30Hey I'm Al, I play the drums in the sports team

00:41We're here at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago

00:45And we're really excited to be here

00:47So I'd say my personal style kind of changes quite a lot

00:50I guess it depends what I'm up to and where I am

00:52At home I like to exercise a lot

00:54So I guess it's like always guided by that

00:57Sort of quite day to night wear that you can kind of just mix and match with

01:01A lot of trainers

01:02But today I think I've maybe gone a little smarter

01:05Got my school shoes which do get the piss taken out of them sometimes

01:09But you know, they come through, they work

01:11These trousers which are like a fail safe kind of tailored fit

01:14Which I, yeah, they used to be white and they're now more kind of grey

01:19And then yeah just standard stage wear for me is like

01:22Either like a sports bra alongside like kind of vintage fit

01:26And then this I picked up in Mexico City

01:29It's really nice for us being on the road in America

01:32Because you get to find like all kind of cool stuff that we wouldn't get back home

01:36And then this is like a men's suit blazer

01:38Which I wear on top

01:39I probably won't wear this on stage

01:40I'll probably just go for this

01:42Maybe start a bit like zipped all the way up

01:44And then take it off

01:46I would usually have a cap

01:48It's quite tragic for me that there's no cap

01:50Because when I'm drumming I kind of need something to keep the hair off

01:54So I'll work that one out as we go

01:56And then yeah just some random sunglasses like picked up in LA

02:03Being a drummer is super important that what I'm wearing is like movable and breathable

02:07I think I often make the error of having like loose fitting stuff that can then fall down

02:11And that can end up restricting the arms a bit which you don't want

02:15Also important to not be too hot

02:17So I always like to have layers I can take off

02:19Often I'll wear shorts

02:21Yeah and ask for a fan on stage as well

02:24Yeah so I'd say like when we're here in the States like we thrift a lot

02:28Like back home I tend to not find decent stuff

02:31But I guess here it's like a lot more interesting for us

02:33Different cuts

02:34When I go into a thrift shop I guess

02:37I'm not really looking for a specific brand

02:39I'm more looking for like colours that I find interesting

02:42Or like fits

02:44So like this I got in a kind of market

02:47I guess thrift market

02:49And I was drawn to the colours

02:51And I guess like yeah the kind of style of it that sits quite nicely

02:55Yeah and I guess just like things with a bit more detail

02:58Again like this was a thrift shop number

03:00But it actually was part of like a two piece with a skirt

03:04The skirt was absolutely fucking massive so it didn't make a lot

03:07But yeah just like reworking stuff and wearing them in different ways

03:10Similarly this was like vintage men's from Marks and Spencers

03:15But yeah like I feel like you can rework it in different ways

03:19I quite like wearing kind of oversized or like repurposing menswear

03:23For quite a kind of androgynous look

03:26Kind of makes me feel good

03:27I tend to be pretty lazy with mindset and accessories

03:30Like if I'm wearing them I'm going to wear them for my whole life kind of thing

03:33So I've got a couple of chains and these rings

03:35I've had for years and years

03:37I do have a watch that I sometimes wear

03:39I guess that comes off for like the gym

03:41And so I don't know why that is today

03:44Otherwise I would wear that

03:45But it does sometimes kind of come back to bite me

03:47But yeah apart from that that's it

03:50And then probably nail varnish

03:52As and when I've got my act together

03:54When I'm back at home I guess I tend to shop a bit less

03:57In like thrift or like charity shops that we have

04:00Just because I don't tend to find that much

04:02I guess I'd more go for like vintage

04:05Or like finding stuff online that I like

04:08Or going to like boutiques

04:10But yeah I guess like the last few good finds that I've had

04:13Were like a Stone Island jumper that I got off vintage

04:16That I absolutely love

04:17And then yeah I guess like shopping for shoes and stuff

04:22In store which I'm slightly guilty of

04:27Alright we're going to talk about my fashion on and off the road today

04:30So let's get into it

04:31I'll be right now

04:32Right these erm

04:33What are these called Rob?

04:34Gesells?

04:35Sunaks

04:36Yeah this is the thing

04:37So like these trainers I thought were quite cool

04:38I've had them for ages

04:39I think we got sent them by Adidas

04:41And then they kind of erm

04:43Quite recently like fell foul in the UK

04:45Because one of our ex prime ministers Rishi Sunak

04:47Started wearing them

04:48So Rob's been calling them Sunaks the whole tour

04:50Which is trouble

04:51So they're not cool anymore

04:53Jeans

04:54I think like a lot of the stuff like we love out here

04:56When you go to kind of the thrift stores

04:58So we go to kind of like the Goodwills

05:00Me and Rob read the Salvation Army one today

05:02Where I got basically this shirt

05:04And it's like I think it's one of those things

05:06I think when you go to UK charity shops and stuff

05:08You're always kind of in trouble

05:10Because you're sort of getting stuff you've seen before

05:11But like basic clothes that people are giving away here

05:14Are kind of cool and exotic

05:16And they've got loads of nice ladies blouses essentially

05:19But yeah I love erm I love the charity shops

05:21And the Goodwills and the thrift stores around here

05:23So that's where I've got all that from

05:24I got these Sunaks as well

05:26$30 for a brand new pair of Ray-Bans

05:28Yeah 100%

05:29I mean I think on today

05:30I'm not necessarily wearing this today

05:32But like we

05:33I at least kind of like to wear like suits

05:35And white suits I guess is kind of what I've worn the most

05:38And I think it's kind of like

05:40It's sort of because they show dirt

05:42I think it's why you want to wear them

05:43You know you want to kind of turn up

05:45Like completely pristine

05:46And like kind of dress really well

05:47And then by the end of the set

05:49You want to look like completely ragged essentially

05:51So like if you bleed

05:52You're going to bleed onto it

05:53It's going to show up

05:54You're getting dirty and sweaty

05:55Kind of thing

05:56It's going to cover the suit in it

05:57So I think you kind of get that sense of like

05:59Narrative through the whole set

06:01Which is quite appealing

06:02So yeah like white suits on stage as well

06:04I'm trying to wear

06:05I kind of like the sort of fabrics that move with you a bit

06:07You know like I don't think you want anything that's kind of like that firm on stage

06:10Because you kind of start looking a bit static

06:12And if you're going to kind of throw yourself around when you're dancing

06:14And things like that

06:15You've got to like have fabrics like that

06:17That are kind of very light and move with you

06:19So that's kind of what I'm looking for

06:21So not branded stuff as well

06:23Just odd products

06:24Probably you wouldn't find in the UK as well

06:26Which is what you get out of it

06:28Well I mean I like the whites

06:30I like the whites as I said

06:31Because they kind of get dirty on stage

06:33The colours

06:34So that shows up

06:35But also like you want to kind of

06:37You want to kind of confuse people a bit

06:38I think bands are so

06:40So many of them have like very strong aesthetics

06:42You know and I think we're probably a band that doesn't

06:44It's kind of a bit of everything

06:45And you want the ambiguity in it

06:48Like if you're going to wear kind of a women's blouse

06:50Which is like slightly androgynous

06:52You kind of combine it with like the jeans or something

06:54Like you never want to kind of be able to be pinned down

06:56Is wearing a really specific kind of outfit

06:59I mean a lot of the bands that are kind of a bandy at the moment

07:02Will still do the kind of leather jacket thing

07:05Like sunglasses on sort of things straight away

07:07And I think our like the point of this band is always like

07:11It kind of sits somewhere in the middle

07:12And you can't pin it down

07:13You can't kind of put it into sort of the genre camp very easily

07:16So I guess it's mixing up stuff like

07:18I guess jeans would be like pretty working man kind of thing

07:21But with a women's blouse sort of thing

07:23So it's not like

07:24You're not getting glam rock when you wear a blouse

07:26Because it's like too easy to pinpoint

07:28And if you're wearing jeans

07:29So you're like not pairing it with kind of a band t-shirt

07:32So it's not like okay the slapper or whatever

07:34So I think it's always kind of trying to avoid

07:36Avoid those cliches I think

07:38The way you dress

07:39I've worn like

07:40I used to buy when we were first starting out

07:42I used to buy a load of watches again from charity shops

07:44You could do this great thing with like this great stage meeting

07:46You could smash it at a certain point

07:48Stop the clock and like chuck it into the audience

07:50And someone had a watch

07:52Kind of stuck onto the time that you were in

07:54Fritz and the crowd

07:55So I used to do that

07:56That was a good accessory

07:57Accessories you kind of give away

07:58But if I wear anything on stage

08:00Like if you end up coming out in a hat

08:01And necklace and glasses or anything like that

08:03They're just like they're gone

08:04Like if you go into the crowd like we did

08:06These are obviously not our crowd

08:08So you might go into the crowd a bit less tonight

08:10But it will just go

08:12It's like you've got to wear stuff you're kind of prepared to have ripped and loose pretty quick

08:16Hey I'm Rob from sports team

08:18I play guitar

08:19And I'm wearing

08:20I guess what I'd wear on the road on tour

08:22So I guess three quarter length shorts

08:24With about 800 pockets

08:26Which I've got on my Zins

08:28Got some sweets I got today

08:30In here somewhere

08:31Yeah I think it's just kind of

08:32If you're travelling around with your passport

08:34Normally I'd wear basketball shorts

08:35But yeah it's quite difficult to store all the things

08:38So yeah they're kind of convenient

08:40This is a tour t-shirt for a band called Dr. Feelgood

08:42Who I really like

08:44It's got the date over there as well

08:46You can see that

08:48My comfortable shoes

08:50So yeah this is kind of nice

08:52But yeah this is basically just I guess what I'd wear off stage on tour

08:57So yeah on stage I think I'd normally wear a pair of trousers or jeans

09:00Maybe something a bit more formal

09:02I think the shorts maybe a little bit too

09:04Like I'm in a jam band from the 80s or something

09:06So I wouldn't wear that

09:08But yeah I think generally on stage I'm pretty relaxed

09:10Alex Ossinger wears a lot of suiting and stuff

09:12But yeah I kind of prefer just wearing what I'd wear normally I think

09:16So pretty much all of this

09:18All of the stuff I'm wearing I guess is from like thrift shops

09:20I think most of the jewellery is fake

09:22This is definitely fake chrome hearts I'm pretty sure

09:24I think it was about £20

09:26And all the rings and stuff I guess are from like thrift stores

09:28Or Vinted

09:30Like online websites

09:32Yeah the shorts are thrifted

09:34I think everything apart from my socks and pants

09:36And the crocs were thrifted

09:38So yeah like tour t-shirts and stuff I like just looking on

09:40Yeah things like Vinted or Ebay

09:42Or looking at charity shops

09:44So I think now they can be really expensive

09:46But I think this one was something like £20

09:48I have worn crocs on stage though but yeah it's very hard to do the pedals

09:50Is the big issue

09:52If you have a big pedal board in front of you

09:54I tend to get about 8 at once if I'm wearing the crocs

09:56So I probably wear like a pair of boots

09:58Or some like Spago boat shoes

10:00Or maybe some little like loafers

10:02Little leather loafers or something

10:04Alex and I the singer

10:06We were kind of getting into crocs and cool for a bit

10:08So wearing like blazers and bootleg jeans

10:10But yeah I think we've sort of moved away from that now

10:14Developing

10:16Yeah so I think we've kind of

10:18I guess throughout being in a band you get kind of bored

10:20And you kind of copy each other

10:22And you know I guess we kind of take the piss out of each other as well

10:24So I guess when we started out

10:26We'd all just kind of wear jeans and t-shirts on stage and stuff

10:28Because everyone was a little bit embarrassed about trying to dress

10:30Like a rock star or like you know

10:32You wanted to look cool or something

10:34Then Alex the singer started wearing kind of like

10:36Like he's wearing today blouses and hats

10:38And he'd wear like bonnets and stuff

10:40And I guess experimented a bit with his look

10:42We all started wearing like suits and dressing a bit more

10:44Like we thought we were kind of rock and roll stars

10:46And I guess now

10:48I think we just go through phases of kind of just entertaining each other

10:50You know it's sort of

10:52You go off to a new city and you go to like Chicago

10:54And go around a charity shop or a thrift shop

10:56It kind of depends what you find

10:58And that would be kind of I guess the look you go with

11:00Yeah we've tried to do like eras in the past

11:02Where we'll get like a styling budget for a record

11:04Where everyone will wear like a very coherent outfit

11:06We were doing 80s on this one

11:08So I like bands like Prefab Sprout

11:10So we're all kind of wearing like eras

11:12Well like Roxy music clothes I guess

11:14And quite big suits, pastel colours and pinks

11:16And like eras wearing some really big glasses

11:18But yeah I think after a while

11:20It just gets quite hard to maintain that

11:22When you're going through airports and things

11:24And you feel like a bit of an enormous dickhead when you're wearing it

11:26So yeah I think now we've all sort of settled back slightly

11:28Into what we'd normally like to wear anyway

11:30Hey this is Henry Young, the guitarist and sports team

11:32And you've caught me on a day where I happened to acquire my shirt

11:38This shirt I think I got from a rich divorcee in the north of France

11:42In a Brokant which is their equivalent of a car boot sale

11:46And yeah this is pretty much as smart as I ever get

11:48I'm kind of like a disgraced um

11:52Disgraced banker I would say

11:54This evening for the show Riviera Theatre

11:56Got some pinstripe slacks

11:58I'm guessing these are maybe from the 70s

12:00You can see that a lot of the stitching is coming undone

12:02But um

12:04It makes me feel like I'm kind of an extra in a film about the Rolling Stones

12:08That's what I'm going for

12:10Shoes, I feel like these were gifted a long time ago by Clarks

12:14So they're kind of the classic Wallaby

12:16Uh timeless

12:18And then we've got the pavement hat

12:20So please take us on tour

12:22Steven Maltus

12:24We're hitting the bars in Chicago later

12:26Obviously it's going to be a bit cold

12:28So I've got a climbable sweater

12:30It's a brand in Barcelona

12:32Really recommend it

12:34When we're in a new city one of the first things we'll do

12:36After checking out the bars is

12:38Go thrifting

12:40I think I like the rest of the band

12:42Kind of like it when

12:44Things aren't too curated

12:45If you're in a vintage store

12:46And like

12:47You know you've got all your Harley Davidson stuff in one corner

12:49And you've got

12:50All of your kind of like

12:51Frannel shirts in one corner

12:53It kind of feels like you're

12:55Never gonna find that needle in the haystack

12:57Prefer to like

12:58Go somewhere that's about out of the way

13:00Maybe like

13:01Some old dude has died in this suit

13:04And

13:05Still got

13:0620 pound note in the pocket

13:08That's the kind of vibe

13:09Speaking of which

13:11This suit in Birmingham

13:12Where I bought it

13:13I was with Rob

13:14We'd gone for breakfast

13:15And we were like

13:16Deep in the suburbs

13:17Weren't really expecting to find anything

13:19And then we ended up

13:20Like walking around

13:21With two full bin bags

13:22Worth of clothes

13:23That we thrifted

13:24And

13:25Yeah when we got back to the bus

13:27People were giving us some very confused looks

13:29And yeah the reason that suit's good

13:31Is you can pretty much just like

13:32Rock up in the same outfit

13:33Every show

13:34We'll just change the t-shirt

13:35Perfect

13:36I think this shirt actually

13:38Is missing some cufflinks

13:39So that's why I've rolled it up

13:40If I had some

13:41I might be wearing them

13:42This is the only accessory I've got

13:44Apart from that

13:45Which is across the Camargue region

13:47In the south of France

13:48Which is where I'm living at the moment

13:49A little gift from my girlfriend

14:07Well I'm wearing these sunglasses

14:09They're from an EK company

14:11Called Spitfire

14:12That I like

14:13Again like different pairs of these

14:16Yeah like the front colour

14:17I've got various bits of jewellery on

14:20That have kind of just accumulated through the years

14:22Like rings, necklaces

14:24There we go

14:25I've got this watch from a company called Mr. Beaumont

14:29It's by a designer called Ellie Beaumont

14:31I really like her watches

14:33I've got this jacket that actually Rob or guitarist gave to me

14:39It's from LLB

14:41I've got this shirt

14:43I think it's just an ASOS number

14:46Like fairly casual

14:48I like these sorts of belts

14:50I've got on

14:51More accessory

14:52I've got these jeans from Urban Outfitters

14:56I've got some Solomons that I've been wearing on this tour

15:00And yeah that's me

15:03Yeah for me like

15:04I kind of

15:06I don't like love past fashion

15:09So I try

15:10I keep like the stuff that I wear like pretty limited

15:15And then try and like get as many like different looks out of that

15:19But for example I'll kind of like

15:21You know

15:22Once like I've got a jacket that I'll like

15:25I'll try and keep that as like the one I'll wear for like

15:28Until it's kind of like worn out

15:30You know what I mean?

15:32And same with shoes

15:33Like these are fairly new

15:34But I kind of own

15:35And like you can already see they're like pretty trashed

15:38Like already

15:39And I'm kind of like you know

15:40More into that kind of thing of like getting like decent wear from stuff

15:45And you know rather than kind of like flicking between different styles

15:51So yeah I think like you know I'll keep on like a similar rotation of stuff for this

15:57Like however long I can last with them

15:59In terms of like a personal fashion stuff that I kind of look for when I'm shopping

16:04I kind of like will just do deep dives online

16:09I'll kind of get to a stage where I'm like

16:11Like I'm sick of

16:13I'm kind of bored of like my wardrobe or whatever

16:16So rather than like constantly thrifting I'll kind of like get to a stage where I'm like

16:20Okay I want like a whole new like set of clothes and stuff like that

16:24And then in terms of like personal taste

16:28It's strange like it's

16:30There's no real like rhyme or reason to it

16:32It's kind of like I'll stumble across something and kind of like get into it

16:37But like I really like kind of like colorful clothing

16:40I like like color blocking

16:42I don't love like kind of like wearing named brands necessarily

16:47So I like kind of stuff that you can't necessarily like tell where it's from

16:55Or like I'm not really into kind of like flashing like brands or stuff like that

17:01So like I guess that's why like thrifting I find like less good

17:05I feel like people seem to be into it to find like kind of like

17:10Like branded stuff but like for like a cheap price or something like that

17:15Or like you know kind of like old stuff

17:18But yeah so I'm less into it

17:21I guess I have less patience for it as well

17:23Like I'm like bad at kind of like flicking through like the hangers and stuff like that

17:33So yeah it's kind of you know whatever

17:35Whatever takes my eye

17:37Like yeah this I bought like really recently

17:40Just because like I felt like I wanted something new for tour

17:43Something new for kind of like the festival season

18:00Or lack of it

18:01And get into what I'm wearing

18:04What I wear on tour and stuff

18:05This I'll fully wear on stage

18:07Just like a baggy trouser

18:10Kind of suit trousers style thing

18:13Got some boat shoes

18:15The sock

18:17Get the sock popping on the red

18:19Got a little shirt and tie

18:22This is a tie I found in a charity shop

18:26In London

18:28It's a Sri Lanka England cricket tie

18:31From 2002

18:33Which is yeah it's cool to me

18:36Because my grandad was actually Sri Lankan

18:38Big into cricket

18:40So it's good to have that light little wear

18:43And he was very stylish

18:44I take a lot of my style points from him

18:46Like the shirts, the ties

18:48And then I've just got like a sailing jacket

18:52Sort of canvas jacket

18:53Yeah kind of mixing like high and low

18:57Sort of smart and casual

18:59Bit of like sort of alien vibes

19:02Like the crew of it

19:03Alien with the sort of army hat

19:06Army hat

19:07And yeah this is actually our merch

19:10So like a little truck of cats

19:12I thought we'd do for the American people

19:17Got a little sort of Marge Simpson drawing that I did

19:20Like this kind of bastardised version of Marge Simpson

19:24And yeah that's it

19:26And then when I'm on stage

19:28I'll always have the um

19:31No one can see my eyes on stage

19:34So

19:42I'm a sucker for a brand name

19:43So anything Lacoste

19:45Or Ralph Lauren

19:46I'll probably pick it up and have a look

19:48But yeah a lot of what I wear is like thrifted

19:56I normally uh

19:59I normally bring a lot of

20:00Like shoes on tour

20:02And then thrift the rest of the outfit

20:05So I'm always got the chain on

20:18Not too massive on accessories

20:20Apart from

20:24So obviously you want to be comfortable on stage

20:26And feel comfortable in what you're wearing

20:28I like to wear the sunglasses

20:30So I can sort of

20:32Live behind the glasses

20:34I don't have to like

20:35Um

20:36Worry about what I'm seeing or anything

20:38Or like you know

20:39It kind of

20:40Builds a little barrier between

20:41Me and the people watching

20:43Um

20:44So hopefully people are a little weirded out

20:47With what I'm wearing

20:49Or like what I'm doing

20:50I think I like to like

20:51Yeah

20:52Fuck with people a little bit

20:53And just make them think
