00:00Everyone in the band including our crew is
00:02They're big dorks. So a lot of the time we're either sleeping with gear or on top of gear. Two
00:07blowouts on this tour
00:08Battery die. We've been stranded three times. I've maxed out my triple-A account
00:39All right, what's up y'all? My name is Tyler. This is Roman. We play in a band called commoner
00:44We've been on the keep it quiet tour for the past month now. We're in Chicago playing
00:50the Cobra lounge and
00:53We'd love to show you our van. So let's hop in. This is the driver's seat. This is where
00:58Basically, Tyler Beto and myself do some driving
01:03It's pretty awesome. We got the the co-pilot situation right here
01:08Rules are if you're in this seat you got to stay awake
01:13I've fallen asleep a few times. I get yelled at for it. So stay awake
01:16No per diem if you fall asleep exactly as a copilot. Yes, so if you want to get paid you
01:21stay awake
01:23We don't have a driver. We don't really have a crew aside from our photo guys, Sonny
01:27So outside of the band members, you know, we're not going anywhere
01:30So when we're driving at night, you know from we just did I think Kansas City to
01:36Yeah, where was I? Columbus
01:38Yeah, we do that overnight. So we're doing those
01:41You've got to have someone locked in I mean right now you can see outside. It's snowing hail
01:47Sleeks everything
01:48So if we've got one person up here at three in the morning, you know, it's just generally unsafe
01:52So we're big on music podcasts or big soft boy underbelly band
01:57Yeah, we listen a lot of those interviews on the road just because it feels like there's people other than
02:01us for talking
02:03To each other and I don't know lately. It's been a lot of
02:10Anthony green hardware podcast. Yep. Yeah, anything off of a rebirth records from philadelphia all the new straight edge stuff
02:18has been a repeat shout-out start today
02:21I don't know and the other guys listen to whatever but I usually have my headphones in
02:25So a couple different accessories we've got accompanying us believe this was purchased about 30 minutes ago inside of an
02:31outlet mall
02:32Here in Chicago. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but he is inside
02:37Aside from him. We've got this very sweet gift given to us by
02:42Caroline she was a three-year-old. She obviously didn't write this but she did make this. It's like a
02:46little terrarium
02:47We stayed at their place my buddy Tim
02:50Shout out Tim from Richmond, Virginia. This is his little sister or no. It's his brother's daughter
02:56Brother's daughter. Yes gave us this little terrarium and we treasure it and keep it in here for good luck
03:01as this band has already seen two blowouts on this tour
03:05Battery die. We've been stranded three times. I've maxed out my triple-a account
03:10So aside from that we need some good luck. Thank you to Caroline for that
03:13We've got a lot of cards. I'll let you speak on that. I play a lot of magic as you
03:17can see
03:18These are all bulk cards that we don't really care for because we didn't hit on
03:23So yeah, it's pretty awesome. Yeah, we've been trying to play as much magic on tour as possible
03:29We've had some smaller green rooms, so it's been a little hard, but
03:33The chance we get an actual full table. It's been pretty good
03:36So yeah running that we stop at LGS is a lot along the way to a local game store for
03:43those who don't play cards
03:44But everyone in the band including our crew is
03:47They're big dorks, so we typically do try and open as many cards as we can on the road see
03:52the new stores
03:54Our manager tuck he plays in a bank called fit for a king and he is also very much into
03:59cards
03:59Opens cards on the road. We've been into LGS is in which we'll talk to them about it
04:04They know we're on tour and they've already met tuck and no tuck and tell them to say what's up,
04:09so
04:10Everyone here is a big fan. We usually try and play like
04:13We'll show you in a moment, but actually some of these seats spin around. We've got actual table setups in
04:19the back of the band
04:19We've got our snack bin full of awesome treats. However, most of them are either bad or half eaten
04:28We've been trying to experiment a little bit got these beer cheese pretzel sticks not very good didn't like them
04:37We got
04:39pistachios
04:41This is showing how healthy we've been eating
04:45For my mom. My mom's gonna watch this. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, we got these at the beginning of tour one
04:50of the whole foods
04:52Can LaCroix. Can LaCroix. You know how it is
04:55Stays cold. We got toys. We just went shopping
04:59Hit us up brand deal not a plug not a sponsor, but it would like to be
05:03Welcome to our event. This is where all the magic happens. You can see Roman chillin'. This is typically 90
05:09% of the time
05:09We've got at least three in the van at all times behind driver and passenger
05:15These are all captain's chairs, and I'll give you a little bit of breakdown here on this van so
05:20Typical e250 from the outside
05:21We'll give you a little walk around there
05:23But as far as the interior goes it's been completely redone not by us
05:28We purchased this van on auction. It was previously a nascar staging car
05:33So it actually towed some of the vehicles and in here was their crew. They would run diagnostics
05:39Outside of the track. So we saw this online. I had been looking for a van. I'm a very big
05:45car guy
05:46I've always been that way. I've actually used this site to purchase personal cars myself
05:50We've been looking non-stop
05:52This van came up and it made a lot of sense like as you know a couple of the livability
05:57things
05:57It came with the TV that was huge just given the HDMI setup. We are a big movie band
06:04Especially on some of these long drives if you are not front or passenger
06:08We have a hard split through the roof and we can run audio into the back of the van
06:12So a lot of what we do throughout is like I'll show you right here in the door. We've actually
06:18got an Xbox
06:19It's a little dirty
06:21Sorry about that
06:22We got a couple older right over the Xbox so a lot of coffee. We run that straight up to
06:27the TV Diablo 3 a lot of halo
06:30We play parked a lot of the time
06:33But when it comes to some of those like 10 12 14
06:37Unholy hour drives some of the people back here will run that just to make it feel a little bit
06:41more normal
06:42But some highlights here before I pass it over to Roman. We always keep water in the van
06:46Aside from the snack bin. That's essential. You don't always know if you're gonna get your rider
06:51So when you do and you don't finish it, I strongly recommend any bands that are starting to tour
06:57Bring that with them bring any of the rider
07:00You don't finish with you because there are stints of three four or five days where you're on your own
07:04and a lot of the time
07:06You know depending on the band set up you're sleeping in the van and not a hotel. We are a
07:11van band
07:12Unless circumstances
07:14Suggest otherwise as in it's below freezing so they're below zero
07:19We've got a mini fridge and it's usually full of zero sugar monster and whatever rider stuff
07:25We don't go ahead and give them a little pilot. It's currently some
07:29zero sugars in here. There's a
07:33Bag of chips not exactly sure why that's in there
07:38And then we got orange juice. Oh
07:40And some Reese's got some Reese's in there electric
07:44You know keeping it slim yeah, keeping it you know keeping it healthy
07:47Lightweight healthy healthy vitamin band big elderberry band
07:51Yeah
07:52Trinket band let's uh let's highlight some of these here
07:55We've got a McLaren f1 car that I believe Matthew built our bassist while driving
08:01He wasn't driving
08:03He was passenger. He went and built this. I think we did lose about half of the pieces. Yeah, this
08:07guy doesn't have arms nothing's really
08:09complete here, but um
08:10You know typical airborne everyone is uh fighting getting sick
08:15Yeah, so we have been very focused on making sure we get our vitamins in this is our first full
08:21u.s tour
08:23And especially the time we left. I think there's been a bunch of articles being posted about how
08:28This is like the coldest winter start or the earliest start to a cold winter
08:33I don't know typical unlucky situation for a band like us out of arizona
08:37Um, so we have all been sick and got better and got sick again in the last month
08:42Um, but we're holding out pretty strong. Everyone's been good. We run a vitamin check every day for the band
08:48Um when we wake up and get in
08:51But yeah, I'll let you uh, you know explain the situation for sleep
08:54Let's check it out. This is the this is the back here. We got the dead seat
08:59This is where nobody is because we only have five people
09:02Um, so we keep our bags here, and it gets kind of crazy. I'm not gonna lie
09:06Um, however these seats fold all the way down so flat like a bed
09:12Um, and then so does this
09:15Like that kind of so you can sleep like this
09:18It's very nice
09:21But yeah, but the I guess the main thing is in the back there is where our gear is
09:27So we can't really lay this flat, so we have to move all of our gear onto this table
09:32Which if you play in a band, you know, it's almost impossible to do that
09:37Um, so a lot of the time we're either sleeping with gear or on top of gear
09:41Um, he was sleeping with one of these the other day. It's pretty dope
09:46Um
09:46Cuts with the picture of me
09:48Yeah
09:50Uh, but yeah, that's the situation we got little little like airplane cubbies up here
09:55It's where we keep more magic by the way
09:58Um, and probably more magic up here
10:02No, I don't know what that is
10:04Clothes and sleeping bags
10:05Let's take a look at more things
10:08More magic and candy
10:11Uh
10:14More magic and vitamins
10:19And uh, more magic so we play a lot of magic
10:22It's pretty awesome
10:25But yeah, that's the sleeping situation the magic situation
10:29All right, so I would say a really big focal point of this van and this band thus far
10:35We are not running a trailer set up as you can see our buddies in Fox Lake and our buddies
10:39in Greyhaven are both running a trailer
10:41They have been kind in us kind enough to let us a gear share throughout this entire month
10:46Very sweet lads for that helps us with the drive
10:49And to be honest with you we are about to kind of venture into that trailer world ourselves
10:53But up until now, um, we kind of got lucky with some of the backline opportunities
10:58So we've got a kind of makeshift storage situation for us here
11:03This van
11:04Has about four feet of depth in the trunk for storage that fits all of our music related gear
11:11Um, so all guitars, basses, my snare, uh, pedals, cymbals, all that fit in the back of the van
11:17However, you have a lot of supplementary items such as your own personal bags
11:22Then your own personal luggage and merch
11:25Merch is the big one
11:26So when we are fully stocked this is this is a shameless plug for you to buy our merch
11:32When we are fully stocked
11:34We sleep pretty much with the boxes of merch
11:37So someone figures out a way to make it semi-livable
11:41For me, I find that letting my feet go numb is better than letting my hands go numb
11:46So I'll just let my feet get crushed by whatever if I need to when I'm sleeping in the van
11:52When we sell our merch and we reduce the amount of boxes we're carrying in the van
11:57We sleep better
11:58We play better for you
11:59We do our job better
12:02Yes
12:03Buy our merch
12:05We've got this box to store all our personal belongings
12:08This is basically an all-purpose situation for us
12:12We've got anywhere from two of these massive duffels
12:18This looks like our photo
12:20photo guy Sonny and Matthew's bag right now
12:24However, a lot of time we will store crates
12:26So like merch boxes from home depot or our buddy travis at relentless sent us some
12:31And his boxes compared to some of the other companies actually fit perfectly
12:36So we can fit two full boxes of what I would believe to be as a decent amount of merch
12:41into this little guy
12:42It locks it has not been broken into yet
12:46I'm not trying to put that out in the world, but it has been tried
12:50Already we've found some
12:52Jarring uh, you know, whatever happening. There's just malicious shit going on all the time. Sorry. I don't know if
12:57I can curse
12:58But people are you know interested and when this is hanging off the back of the van
13:01It's kind of screaming to be opened. It's like a little chest
13:06So for us we try to keep our least valuable stuff in there and to be 100% honest
13:10A lot of people don't want clothes that say our band's name
13:12So when it comes to that or like our laptop, we're going to put our merch in there. Yes
13:17Because we'll open that up. We'll see 200 shirts and say commoner. What the hell am I doing?
13:21I'm not going to do that. Yeah, you can't sell that for nothing
13:23But it does it works really well. It actually has like a pivot
13:27And I will show you how it operates
13:29It swings out. So when we load in I'm not going to do it's very heavy, but
13:34When we load in these will fully extend
13:37So it's very easy for us to set up
13:42Like a great examples. We just played a show in Mobile, Alabama for free at a skate park
13:47And obviously there's not a ton of amenities. So kids were asking about merch and they wanted to buy some
13:52some clothes
13:53And we're able to set up like a makeshift little store here
13:56Just open the crate up throw some hangers in the back of these doors
14:00And we were able to like play that show without any sort of hiccups because it's a very self-sufficient
14:05van
14:07For a little bit of context. We did buy this van
14:10Almost immediately before this tour. This is our first run out with it
14:15And before that we bought a van that was owned by a band called portrayal of guilt
14:19They've been on this show
14:20And I'm not sure what I think our van's been on the show our old van and their even older
14:26van has been on the show
14:27300,000 miles the brakes lock up all the time
14:31Uh, we took that out when we were on tour with split chain
14:33We've taken that out to everything we've done before the keep it quiet tour
14:37So this is a very do upgrade very
14:41We love it. We're very happy to be in it
14:43It is a lot of yeah, it's wonderful compared
14:45And uh, we've got a lot of buddies of ours that are bus touring or we know them
14:50They're out with uh wage war chelsea grand stuff like that. They've got their own bunks
14:53I'm happy to have my feet go numb from the merch if it means we can get some uh, you
14:58know
14:59It's all good next steps for our fans. Yes, exactly. It's dope. We love this van. We do love this
15:05van
15:05It's a it's got a lot of character man. It has a uh
15:08It has a story a lot of fans don't have a story they came from enterprise or whatever, but we've
15:14got uh
15:14We've got really lucky with our setups thus far, and we're pretty happy about uh how it's treated us
15:20So knock on wood we've got five more shows left with the keep it quiet tour, and then we've got
15:24a comically large drive home
15:27and uh
15:28Once we get back to arizona, we'll send you a note and we'll let you know if it if it
15:32stayed as strong as it turned out to be
15:33It turned out as reliable as we say. Yeah
15:36Yeah, 140,000 on it still kicking. Well, thank you so much for coming through a tour of our van
15:41Uh, hopefully we covered it to the best of our ability. I would say uh a lot of the
15:46Fun that's had on tour is with your your friends on the road
15:50Um obviously love playing the shows love meeting the the folks that enjoy our music and will soon you know
15:57become
15:58New fans of ours, and we appreciate that
16:00Um, but you know having a home away from home is really important, and I would say that this uh
16:05this van has done
16:06It's a great job of doing that for us
16:08Um, but yeah, I would say uh
16:11Do it doesn't matter what kind of van you have we did it before with 300 000 miles on that
16:17odometer
16:17And uh it's scary and you'll sit in a shop for eight hours when you need the fix, but
16:23I wouldn't trade it for the world, and I know that none of these other guys would so
16:26We've been commoner. Um, you can find us on instagram at commonerdreams. We just recently signed to pure noise records
16:32We put out a single. It's called breach
16:34We play that first every single night
16:36And if you've seen us on this tour or you're going to see us on this tour, please learn the
16:39words
16:39We appreciate it when you come up take the mic
16:42It's been dope. Thanks again, man
