00:00All right, hi people, it's Shakespeare. I'm here to do an ambassador for you guys today
00:05of the Grave of the Fireflies GKids and Shadow Factory re-release Steelbook. Yes, this movie
00:12has finally been re-released here in the United States of North America, actually. In a nice
00:18Steelbook packaging, there's also a regular retail release as well, but I got the Steelbook
00:23because it was coming out at the same time as the regular release, and well, I like Steelbooks.
00:28This is also, I think, the best Steelbook that they've done thus far for a Studio Ghibli
00:33film because looking at the others on Amazon, I have some of them, but looking at the rest
00:39as well, they literally are just a plain color with like, it's a metallic version of the color
00:49too, but it's just a plain color with the main character or characters of the films on them,
00:56and I think that's pretty lazy. Here, though, you have the two main characters, but again,
01:02there's also the logo, and you have the logo, but in the background, there's the fireflies
01:06and everything, and they're in the middle of the field, clearly. So, yeah, or in the middle
01:12of some grass or whatever. I think that this is much better. It's not as simplistic or minimalistic,
01:19and it goes with the name of the film. So, yeah, I have not actually seen this film. I
01:25have not actually seen most of the Studio Ghibli movies, I'm not going to lie. Most of the ones I
01:30have, I just have not watched. But this especially, and this, I don't know what the hell was going on
01:36with the, um, the licensing rights, I guess, to this movie. But the last time this was licensed
01:44was by, uh, Sentai Filmworks, I believe. Um, over a decade and a half ago, they released on Blu-ray
01:53first. I assume that they dubbed it as well, um, for that release. But at some point after that,
02:00I guess the license ran up, and no one has been able to re-license this movie, I guess,
02:06until now, for some reason. I don't know why. Um, maybe, if some, if anyone else knows what happened,
02:14uh, leave a comment. But, like, that was confusing. So, yeah, and I was willing to shell out the cash
02:21at some point to buy the Sentai Filmworks release. But, now that, uh, Shell Factory and G-Kids have
02:30re-released it, it's actually really nice. So, yeah. So, here we go. Studio Ghibli film Grave of the
02:37Fireflies from Academy Award-winning director Isao Takahata. There's the two characters on the front.
02:44I've heard that this is a really good movie. It's basically, uh, it's not autobiographical, but it's like
02:49a semi-biopic of the life of these two kids in the wake of the nuclear bombs being dropped on
02:59Tokyo, or not Tokyo, on Japan towards the end of World War II. So, yeah, um, and just tells their
03:09story and everything. And, uh, yeah, and that's actually pretty sweet. Pretty nice. Um, but yeah.
03:15So, we have this on the back. Uh, one of the most startling and moving animated films ever,
03:22Glenn Kenney, New York Times. We got some screenshots from the movie as well. A description of the,
03:30uh, the movie. Uh, it says, based on personal accounts of Survivor Akiyuki Nosaka. So, yeah,
03:39it's just basically a recreation of what he told them. Bonus features, feature-length storyboards,
03:45late-scene storyboards, interview with director Isao Takahata, interview with Roger Ebert,
03:50promotional video, image galleries, teasers, and trailers. The Blu-ray has a video in 1080p HD,
03:581.85x1, audio, Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0, 2012 English dub, DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0,
04:06and 1998 English dub, DTS-HD Master Audio. I like that they included both. I did not know this
04:12got dubbed in the 90s, but that's actually pretty cool. Subtitles, English, English,
04:16SDH, Spanish, and French. I wish that they were able to license the UK dub of, uh, Arrietty for that,
04:24or for their re-release of that, but I understand that, like, rights issues made it so they couldn't.
04:29But, Shout Factory's also good with doing this, because they also included the alternate, uh,
04:33audio track for, um, Castle in the Sky, with, uh, the newer music that Studio Ghibli got the composer
04:44that did the original music from the original version of the movie to do, so that you have both.
04:49Uh, yeah, that was for the Disney release, and then fans hated it so much they re-released it
04:54with the original music. But yeah.
04:56So, DVD feature video, animorphic widescreen, 1.85x1, audio, Japanese WDigital 2.0, 2012 English dub,
05:04WDigital 2.0, 1998 English dub, uh, WDigital 2.0. Subtitles, English, English, SDH, Spanish,
05:11and French. Bonus features, video various, audio various, subtitles in English. So, yeah.
05:17So, uh, Studio Ghibli, PG in Canada. Um, it's not rated here in the United States.
05:28Shout Studios, G-Kids, Region A, uh, DTS-HC Mass Radio, SDH, DVD, I'm assuming the DVD is Region 1.
05:38Yeah. And so this was kept on by a little bit of glue that you can just take off.
05:45Um, you got the back of the steelbook, which has more of the fireflies, and that's pretty cool.
05:52So, yeah. So, here we go with the inside. You got the two discs, the Blu-ray, and the DVD,
05:59and the inside artwork is just more of the, like, that night sky with the, uh, fireflies.
06:07So, yeah. And then you have this, uh, it doesn't come with a booklet, unlike the other films,
06:12but it comes with a flyer for the rest of the movies.
06:18The Boy and the Heron. I think I have that. I think I have the original, or the regular release of that,
06:23rather than the steelbook. So, if you're wondering why I have not gotten a ton of the steelbooks
06:29that Shadow Factory has, um, put together for these movies, that's why I find them very plain and not very good
06:40as a result, unfortunately.
06:43Uh, so, I did not care to get those, and I got a lot of the movies with their, the Disney Blu-rays, so.
06:50So, yeah, um, but yeah, so, not much else to say, so, link, subscribe, subscribe, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
