President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers' Association, Martin Lum Kin, says the union is ready for the start of the new academic year on September 8th.

00:00Speaking with TV6 by telephone, Tutor President Martin Lumpkin said preparations are largely complete despite ongoing school repairs nationwide.
00:30There are approximately 25 schools that are still to be completed but will not accept the region of schools.
00:38With special reserve police officers set to be stationed at approximately 80 high-risk schools from Monday, Lumpkin cautioned that the measure should not be seen as a permanent solution to indiscipline.
00:51He confirmed that Tutor will meet with the education minister to receive an update on the officers' specific functions.
00:58We meet with the ministry of education to be at 3 p.m. whereby the ministry will give us more information on the needs of the assaults at the safety school.
01:13And Tutor will also address some of our concerns as regards to other aspects of the school's health and safety officers as well as the school security officers.
01:30Lumpkin also noted that Tutor will continue to monitor health and safety issues affecting several schools, not just St. George's College, but institutions across the country.
