With the one extra week closure of schools there should be no excuses from the Division of Education about delays in the reopening in Tobago due to the school repair program. This from TTUTA Tobago officer Bradon Roberts, as he spoke with TV6 News. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00Mr. Roberts said rumblings from some parents objecting to the extended vacation
00:25bring to light what teachers face in the school system.
00:29I have seen some of the parents, I don't know if they're joking me,
00:32but they're complaining about the extra week they haven't been seeing about their children,
00:36which kind of highlights the work it really takes in giving care and nurturing our nation's children.
00:43So it's beneficial if we use it appropriately.
00:48Mr. Roberts said teachers have been consumed with workshops taking over their vacation.
00:54I know they had preparation workshops and so on by the division,
00:59and they had impact program and all these other things, not even the teachers, the rest that they need.
01:06If we don't get the additional rest and to be able to get for the academic care,
01:11then it may not have been as useful as we would want it to be.
01:14Going forward, however, Roberts said the term must be monitored.
01:18Going forward, though, I would hope that the curriculum unit, supervision, monitor the term,
01:24because we usually capitalize on this September term with the additional days to push the work.
01:30As we know, the second term will have a lot of disruptions, usually carnivals, sports, a lot of activities,
01:37so that second term is usually very broken up, and the last term is short.
01:41So the negative to that is, the term that we really pushed the work is now being cut short one week.
