Complaints, about poor teaching and learning conditions, at one of the nation's schools.



In a voice-note, TTUTA President Martin Lum Kin said there are several infrastructural problems that have been plaguing the school for some time.

00:00 Staying on the topic of education, complaints tonight about poor teaching and learning conditions at one of the nation's schools.
00:07 The president of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association sent us these photos.
00:12 He says they're from Mount Hope Secondary School.
00:15 In a voice note, Utah's president Martin Lumpkin said,
00:18 "There are several infrastructural problems that have been plaguing the school for some time."
00:24 "To access the car park, one has to drive through the school hall where physical education takes place."
00:34 "The school was forced to remove several parts of the ceilings which were falling and posed a safety threat to the occupants."
00:46 "Electrical upgrades have not been done at the school for many years."
00:53 "There are sanitation issues as well as the lack of support staff and ciliary staff at the school."
01:02 "The school is also plagued by termite infestation which has affected a number of the infrastructure of the school."
01:15 Utah's president is calling on the Ministry of Education to address these problems immediately.
01:20 He's urging the government to review infrastructural works at the school.
01:27 "Utah is of the firm belief that because of the vital role that education plays in national development in Trinidad and Tobago,"
01:40 "that the government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has to find the funding to address infrastructural or rebuilding issues at our nation's schools."
