00:00The trade deadline is Tuesday.
00:02The Giants are 2-7 and teams are reportedly calling to try and make a deal
00:05for some of the bigger names on the roster.
00:07So is Joe Shane going to be a buyer or is he going to be a seller?
00:11Let's talk with our New York Post NFL writer Ryan Dunleavy
00:14on what he thinks Shane could do at the deadline.
00:18Ryan, thanks for hopping on.
00:192-7, no neighbors, no scataboo,
00:22and their playoff chances get slimmer each week with each loss.
00:26So if you're Joe Shane, let's put your Joe Shane hat on.
00:29Do you answer any calls for trades and who would make the most sense?
00:36Yeah, I mean, I always answer the call, Brandon.
00:38This isn't Dave Gettleman in the 2018 draft
00:41not telling people not to answer the phones.
00:43He's picking Zayquan Barkley.
00:44You always answer the phones.
00:47What makes the most sense?
00:49Probably staying pat, maybe trading away.
00:52If you have anybody that would take Jalen Hyatt or Evan Neal
00:57for like a late round pick or a pick swap,
01:00getting those guys off the team just for the sake of vibes
01:03probably makes the most sense.
01:05There's a lot of buzz about a lot of bigger things coming and going.
01:08I'm not sure any of that makes sense,
01:10especially if I'm owner and I have to approve this stuff
01:14with people that I'm not sure I want around next season.
01:17Who are some of those big names that you think could be dealt
01:20or that you may have heard have been reportedly checked on?
01:25Yeah, there's definitely people calling the Giants
01:27about Kayvon Thibodeau and Dexter Lawrence.
01:29Like that definitely happens.
01:31Dexter Lawrence made it clear yesterday
01:33that he doesn't want to go anywhere.
01:36Kayvon Thibodeau made it clear yesterday
01:37he doesn't want to go anywhere.
01:39I think those are admirable takes
01:40because look, the clock is ticking on careers, right?
01:44And the Giants have done nothing but lose
01:47since Kayvon and Dexter got here
01:50except that one year where they had a playoff win.
01:53But guys are in their primes.
01:55They don't want to waste them losing.
01:57And those two guys said they want to stay.
01:59Dexter Lawrence, I would think the Giants
02:01would want a first round pick for him.
02:03He's not playing at a first round pick trade caliber level.
02:07So that complicates it.
02:08Kayvon Thibodeau, the Athletic reported
02:11that the Giants want a first round pick.
02:13There's no chance anybody's giving that up
02:15for Kayvon Thibodeau.
02:17Thibodeau is under contract for next year.
02:19Dex is under contract for a few years.
02:21If Dex plays well, it's at a bargain rate.
02:23At the way he's playing right now,
02:27it's not a good contract for Dex.
02:28So you got to figure out who Dex is.
02:30And then Kayvon, you got to figure out
02:32if you're going to be able to resign him after the season
02:34because you only have one more year.
02:35And my gut tells me
02:37those could be some pretty tense contract talks, Brandon.
02:41Do you think Joe Shane becomes a buyer
02:45before the deadline?
02:46Like, especially with the team thin
02:48at the receiver position and in the secondary?
02:51I mean, I think it's very possible.
02:53I mean, I think back to when Dave Gettleman
02:55traded for Leonard Williams in 2019,
02:59I think it was when he was coming up on free agency.
03:02And he just saw a good value for the player.
03:05And the Giants were going nowhere that year.
03:09They were probably two and seven around that time,
03:11just like they are now.
03:13It ended up being a good move for the Giants,
03:15but they gave Leonard Williams
03:17all the negotiating leverage.
03:19And that ended up biting them in the butt.
03:21The Giants could do it.
03:22I mean, they could go out
03:23and make a trade for a receiver.
03:25And I understand the logic would be
03:28to get somebody under contract
03:30beyond just this year
03:31who can help Jackson Dart
03:32accelerate his development
03:33and then be a number two receiver
03:35for him going forward
03:38to pair with Malik Neighbors.
03:40I would have, if that was my thinking,
03:42I would have done it three weeks ago
03:43when I wrote it for the post
03:45and said they should do it
03:46when they were two and four.
03:47Now they're two and seven.
03:50It just kind of wipes out
03:51all the buzz of this year.
03:53They're giving up a top 40 pick,
03:55which is what their second round pick
03:56probably will be.
03:57It just seems like a lot to give up for a team.
04:00You just don't see two and seven teams
04:02that are buyers very often for a reason.
04:04You're usually trying to collect draft picks.
04:07All right.
04:07Ryan Dunleavy, thanks for the update, man.
04:09We'll be talking to you soon.
