«Quando mia figlia ha raccolto la bottiglia in spiaggia ha subito capito che era speciale: attraverso il vetro spesso poteva già intravedere la carta gialla». Così Debra Brown ha raccontato ai media del ritrovamento di una bottiglia su una spiaggia australiana dal contenuto sorprendente. Al suo interno custodiva la lettera di un soldato australiano datata 15 agosto 1916 e scritta durante una navigazione verso la Francia. «Tutto va bene – si legge nella missiva indirizzata alla madre a Wilkawatt, nel sud del Paese – Il cibo finora è molto buono, con l’eccezione di un pasto che abbiamo gettato in mare». L’uomo sarebbe stato ucciso nel 1917.

01:28uncle in the war and we feel proud that the bottle picked us yeah and we'll keep on cleaning our
01:35beaches until the day we die this is the dear little cork tiny little cork I can't put it back in there
01:42now because it has shrunk from from being out of the bottle it would fall straight through so
01:47yeah can you see the writing yeah it's beautiful
