00:01Previously on Project Runway.
00:03Your challenge is to create this year's signature dress for the Campbell's Address Your Heart program.
00:08Each of these amazing women has been impacted by heart disease.
00:12So you're going to make me pretty because I survived, right?
00:15These women are not 34, 25, 35.
00:18This is honestly the largest challenge I've ever faced as a designer.
00:24Amy, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:32I'm sorry, Jesus.
00:34That means you're out.
00:36I cried.
00:38Janine, you choose which model we'll be in.
00:41I choose Casey.
00:43Sorry, Sarah.
00:45It's okay.
00:46This is Project Runway.
00:48Yes!
00:49I am fashion.
00:50Look at me.
00:51It's cut or be cut.
00:52Just make it work.
00:53Great clothes.
00:54Great style.
00:55I've got it all.
00:56Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:00They won't do anything to win.
01:01I will.
01:02But only one can be the winner.
01:05My weapon of choice.
01:06For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:11The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire Magazine.
01:15An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:18The $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:24And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:27Get up, Jay.
01:28It's time for Bible study.
01:29You won't read the word.
01:30I use it as a weapon.
01:34Get up, Jay.
01:35It's time for Bible study.
01:36You won't read the word.
01:37I use it as a weapon.
01:38You know?
01:39It felt really wonderful to not be in the bottom three.
01:55One thing I figured out about the bottom three is that when you're in the bottom, the only
01:59place that you can go is up.
02:00Did you want tea or did you drink coffee?
02:02Well being in the bottom three sucks, but I know that really amazing things are going
02:08to come because I might be sweet, but I'm fierce.
02:11One thing that's a little disturbing to me and disheartening is that after coming in
02:17second, nobody was really very happy for me.
02:20Nobody said congratulations.
02:21Top two, top two, I don't know what that's about.
02:27Maybe it's about jealousy, maybe it's about they don't feel like I should have been in
02:32the top, I'm not really sure, but it was kind of a big bummer.
02:36Come out Jess.
02:37I'm coming.
02:38Let's go see what this challenge is about.
02:39Oh, I didn't even check my hair.
02:41Oops.
02:51It's time for your next challenge.
02:59Amy, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity and you cannot be eliminated for
03:04this challenge.
03:06Congratulations.
03:07For your next challenge, you will be designing a look that better be picture perfect.
03:15Tim is going to take you to a spectacular location where he will introduce you to a special guest
03:20and fill you in on all of the details.
03:23Good luck and I'll see you on the runway.
03:26Bye.
03:27Bye.
03:28When Heidi announced what the challenge was, in my head I'm thinking we're going to a photographer's
03:34studio, we're going to look at old photographs and try to recreate a look.
03:47Excited?
03:48Yes.
03:49Look at this place.
03:50So we arrive at the Hearst building and it's just open and bright and beautiful.
03:54The whole thing is just an amazing look so I'm super excited just to see what it is we're
03:58going to do here.
03:59Designers, it is a sincere honor for me to introduce you to Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief
04:04of Mary Claire magazine.
04:05Wow.
04:07Joanna, thank you for letting us come.
04:10Oh, my pleasure.
04:11And welcome to the Hearst building.
04:13This is where our office is.
04:15Designers, before Joanna continues, I want you to know that this challenge is one of the
04:20biggest in the history of Project Runway and the reward for the winner of the challenge
04:26is unprecedented.
04:28So the challenge is to design an outfit to be worn by a celebrity to appear on the cover
04:35of Mary Claire.
04:36The cover.
04:37Wow.
04:38The opportunity to be on the cover of Mary Claire, it's what's in a lifetime.
04:43It's something that I feel like has so much potential for boosting your career.
04:50So ultimately if I win this, I'm just going to be in heaven.
04:54The winning look will appear on the April cover of Mary Claire.
04:58In the last year, the designers who have been featured on the cover have included Versace,
05:02Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Gucci, just to name a few.
05:06You'll be in that company.
05:09Now, there are some key rules when you're designing for a cover.
05:14It's not just about the outfit.
05:16You have to think about the crop.
05:18We usually go from sort of thigh or waist upwards.
05:21So if you're putting detail in there, it probably needs to be in the top part.
05:25You need to bear in mind that we want to put cover lines on the outfit.
05:28So think about color.
05:29We would never do black.
05:31And I think patterns can be tricky because you want to get words on there.
05:35It's going to be an April cover.
05:36So what will the season be like?
05:38What will they be wearing?
05:39The reader normally takes about three seconds to decide which magazine to pick off the newsstand.
05:45So it needs to be eye-catching, strong, confident, sexy.
05:48And can I tell them who the celebrity is?
05:50I'd love you to.
05:52The celebrity is none other than Heidi Klum.
05:57That's huge.
06:01Like, wow.
06:02So not only do we get a cover of one of the best fashion magazines.
06:07We get one of the best supermodels in the entire world to wear the look.
06:12It's amazing.
06:13Good luck, guys.
06:15All right, designers.
06:28You have 30 minutes to sketch.
06:29I'm pleased to see that you've already started.
06:31And how exciting is this?
06:32One of you will have your design on Heidi Klum on the cover of Mary Claire magazine.
06:38You have one day for this challenge.
06:41I'll be back in 30 minutes.
06:43Thank you, Tim.
06:45My God, if my dress can be on the cover of Marie Claire magazine, I want it to say Mila.
06:54Designing for Heidi Klum is a dream come true and completely intimidating.
06:58I mean, when the garment comes down the runway, she's right there.
07:01I choose an icy color palette.
07:04Sort of silver and light blue and charcoal gray.
07:08Because I think that those are colors that could really stand out on her.
07:16I want to design a dress that is form-fitted, short, but not slutty.
07:21I'm really going to focus on color.
07:23That's going to be a huge statement as far as, you know, catching somebody's eye, you know,
07:27just from, like, walking by a newsstand.
07:28And I really want someone to see just a glimpse of it and want to see more.
07:37All right, designers.
07:39We're going to Mood, so bring whatever you need with you.
07:42And we will have a good shopping experience, all right?
07:46Yes.
07:51Designers, I have your $150 budget, and you will have 30 minutes to shop.
07:56Everyone, your time will begin right now.
08:00And they're off.
08:03No, no, no, no, no, no.
08:05How much is this stuff here?
08:07I'm picking blues and turquoise and greens.
08:09You know, I'm not quite sure about the mix of colors, but I'm just grabbing.
08:14Can I get, uh, two yards of this, please?
08:16Grabbing.
08:17Half a yard of this.
08:18Grabbing.
08:19Yeah, that'll be enough.
08:20Designers, you have one minute remaining.
08:23All right, everybody.
08:24One minute to get in line.
08:25Whoa.
08:26Where is it?
08:27I'm from 880.
08:29Thank you, Mood.
08:36All right, designers, you have until midnight tonight, and you know the morning drill.
08:48There will be very little time.
08:49There will be very little time.
08:50All right, thank you.
08:51Make it work.
08:52I'll see you later.
08:53Bye.
08:54Time is absolutely becoming more and more of a factor as we move on.
09:03It just feels even crazier because the stakes are high.
09:06I mean, you get to have your design on the cover of magazine, and here you go.
09:09You have one day to put it all together.
09:11So the winner gets the cover of Marie Claire magazine, which is so huge.
09:20So everybody is just completely in the zone.
09:23It's pretty quiet around the room right now.
09:28The mood in the work room is quiet.
09:31It is busy.
09:32And that's the reality that everybody is trying to make it work.
09:35I'm going to go to sleep if it remains just quiet in here.
09:43Seth Aaron, he's very immature, and he just doesn't stop.
09:47Like, no matter how many times you have to tell him, like, just shut up.
09:50I wish you would stop.
10:04I shake one hell of a martini.
10:06Lots of 80s rock.
10:07I like lots of 80s pop rock.
10:10Some people just don't know how to just work, chill, and just let your garment do your talking.
10:15Seth Aaron just needs to bring it down a notch.
10:18Let's get your back. Let's get your back.
10:20Let's get your back.
10:21Did you smoke anything besides a cigarette when you went outside?
10:25No.
10:26Take your word for it.
10:30The biggest problem that I'm having is the magenta is looking fuchsia.
10:34So I started just playing around with the black metallic nylon that I have and the fuchsia linen,
10:39and it's actually looking better than the sketch.
10:43That's really striking.
10:45Oh, we got a new iron?
10:46New iron.
10:47So you're already in fabric?
10:49Wow.
10:50Well, that's not amazing.
10:51Trust me.
10:52I have a ways to go.
10:53I have taken a lot of the things that the judges are telling me at this point, but I can't afford to beat myself up.
11:00No matter what, I'm going to design something that speaks volumes about Anthony.
11:04Anthony is using a really bright turquoise, and funny enough, Anna's using a very similarly bright turquoise.
11:12Yikes.
11:13I've never made three pieces before.
11:14I've only ever made one.
11:15So what possessed me to try to make three pieces in nine hours, I'm not quite sure.
11:24The pressure's really on.
11:25Stay threaded.
11:27I'm looking at my colors.
11:28I'm looking at my shell pinks and my cream colors, and it's starting to look very bridal.
11:37And I don't do bridal.
11:38Like, I'm going along, and I'm thinking I should be doing the opposite of what I'm doing.
11:42You know, like, this sort of intuitive, damn it, Janine.
11:46Like, don't blow this.
12:03Are you making a dress?
12:04No, I'm making a space suit.
12:08This challenge means more to me than anything to this point in my career.
12:14I mean, competing for a major national cover is unprecedented.
12:19So it's very important to me that I create something that I can really see winning.
12:24With every challenge, I get better and better about dealing with time constraints.
12:29But this particular challenge is kind of frustrating because the reward is huge.
12:35And I want my construction to be immaculate.
12:38I don't like that scene at all.
12:40I'm trying not to sort of emote the dread that is boiling up in my stomach.
12:46I should have a point of view, and I just feel like I don't.
12:50I'm probably going to screw myself.
12:52Anna, how's the three pieces going?
12:54Oh, my God.
12:55That's okay.
12:56I just really need a fitting, you know?
12:58So here I am working on the shorts, and I think to myself,
13:01these need to be really beautifully made because I've had craftsmanship issues in the past,
13:05and I really want to have that not be part of my future.
13:08I'm doing a jacket, a pop, hair pants, and a vest.
13:12And you're, like, so talented.
13:14Everybody can sew, dude, in here.
13:17My biggest competition at this point is probably half the people in that room.
13:20I feel like Emilio's definitely really strong, and he's got a lot of experience.
13:23I feel the same way about Mila, even though I don't really love her aesthetic.
13:26I feel like the judges do.
13:28I haven't really seen any great competition for me in this challenge so far.
13:32You know, Jay and Maya have some interesting things going on,
13:35and, yeah, I mean, that's about all I can tell so far.
13:39How is everybody?
13:45Working.
13:46Really?
13:47You don't sound so good.
13:49You sound worn out.
13:51I'm just here to check in with you all, and I'm going to start with Anthony.
13:55Oh.
13:56See?
13:57That's what I mean about the response.
13:59Hi, Tim.
14:00Hi, Tim.
14:01How are you?
14:02I know I don't sound like my usual chipper self.
14:05You know, this is an intense challenge.
14:07Furthermore, Heidi's going to wear this look.
14:09Right.
14:10I wanted to do a short dress, but I didn't want it to be formal.
14:13All right, can you just give me an idea of what it's going to look like?
14:16Well, that's the thing, Tim.
14:17I don't completely know what it's going to look like.
14:20I just start cutting the strips out.
14:23That worries me.
14:25I don't want you just to gimmick it up.
14:27I don't want you to do this for the sake of doing it.
14:29Right.
14:30Use that editing eye.
14:31If you can take something off and not hurt the integrity of the look,
14:34don't do it.
14:35Okay.
14:36Okay, carry on.
14:37I will.
14:40Leila.
14:41Hi, Tim.
14:42I'm eager to see what you're doing.
14:43I'm doing a dress out of stretch wools, peach beige cream,
14:47like gray, dark gray.
14:48And, you know, it's basically a low V in the front.
14:52It's going to come around to like a sort of a echoing the mitering,
14:57a little V in the back.
14:58All right, so it's your signature, certainly.
15:00It's my signature, yeah.
15:01Work, work.
15:02Okay.
15:03Thanks, Mila.
15:05How's Janine doing?
15:06Hi, Tim.
15:07So I picked a lot of like blues and ocean-y colors.
15:11And how are you using these?
15:13Well, I want to layer them so it looks like sort of just sort of
15:17waves or something and then...
15:19But this spewing out factor, is that really you?
15:23Well, you know, it's the fifth challenge and I haven't met the judges yet.
15:27That could be a blessing.
15:28No, no, I understand that.
15:30But, like I am getting further ahead, but it's like I'm not that great,
15:34but I'm not that bad.
15:35All right, because I know, I mean you don't want it to look like clown clothes.
15:38I know when to...
15:39Okay.
15:40...come back a little bit.
15:41Thank you, Tim.
15:43Okay, wonderful.
15:44Well, I certainly see color.
15:47Yes.
15:48Yes.
15:49I'm definitely working with color.
15:50The concept is kind of like Madame Butterfly on acid.
15:53So it's one piece?
15:54It will be one piece, yeah.
15:56And then the belt will just separate it, which I'm doing in the metallic leather.
15:59I just fear that it could potentially cheapen it.
16:03Okay.
16:04And make it into a joke.
16:06So, with that in mind, as you're working with it, just keep asking yourself the same question.
16:10I will.
16:11Because I'm really with you on everything else.
16:13Carry on, Ben.
16:18Anna.
16:19Hi, Tim.
16:20So talk to me.
16:21What are you doing?
16:22I kind of like the juxtaposition of sort of more of a cooler fabric with more of a feminine.
16:28But do you feel this is you?
16:29Yeah, I do.
16:30I do.
16:31So there's going to be this pair of shorts also that completes the bottom half.
16:35And how short are the shorts?
16:37Um, you know, they're going to be pretty short.
16:40All right.
16:41Don't lose your editing eye on this.
16:43Okay.
16:44Thank you, Tim.
16:45All right, Anna.
16:47Emilio.
16:48Hi, Tim.
16:49Color.
16:50Yes.
16:51I'm creating a short little cocktail dress.
16:52Okay.
16:53And then I got this ombre lacing.
16:55I mean, as nice as this ombre is, I don't think anyone's going to notice this.
16:58It's going to be that they're different colors.
17:00Well, what I'm going to do is I'm going to do it, lace it, and then leave them the length
17:04of the dress.
17:05You're emphasizing the neckline using this corseting lacing.
17:10Yes.
17:11Yes?
17:12Yes.
17:13Get in a position where you can't do this because that is the wow factor.
17:16That is the wow factor.
17:17Exactly.
17:18Thank you, sir.
17:20All right, designers.
17:21I'm leaving it for the night.
17:22And I will say that I'm leaving it for the night reluctantly.
17:25Make it work, everybody.
17:26Thank you, Tim.
17:27See you tomorrow.
17:32All right.
17:33Let me throw some stitches in this and then just see where we're at.
17:35So, Alexis arrives for the model fitting and I've got basically the front piece of the dress finished.
17:40So, at least I'm in a good place.
17:42I can hold it up and see how the basket weave kind of works around her curves.
17:45Basically, when you're looking at the back, it's this long.
17:47Oh, that's cool.
17:49The color that I'm using is really muted.
17:52I don't know.
17:53I just wanted to do something that's really feminine and sexy.
17:56Hi, Heidi.
17:58Heidi embodies that kind of persona.
18:01Carrie comes in and I'm a little horrified by how off I was on the shorts.
18:06The shorts are not a good fit.
18:07And I also begin to freak out because I can see that there's not a whole lot of time left.
18:12I see that Anna might need to really pay attention to her hem and the fit of her garment.
18:18And she has very limited experience.
18:20So, we'll see what she turns out.
18:23Thank you, hot stuff.
18:24All right, I'll meet you.
18:26Bye.
18:27Oh, good.
18:28Nobody dared go near my machine.
18:33Mila.
18:34There's something about her that's, you know, kind of fake and not so sincere.
18:40Time for some major assembly here.
18:44Nothing bothers me about Mila the person.
18:46What bothers me about Mila the designer is that she really comes off as very cocky when all she's doing is color blocking in every challenge.
18:54She's a one note wonder.
18:57This is the back.
18:59Because they sure do look the same to me at this point.
19:01I just feel like there's so little time in this challenge and I need to be really focused.
19:08I mean, I'm here to win.
19:10Let me think, let me think, let me think.
19:13Right now I'm concerned about my look because I wanted to do something special.
19:18However, I'm not exactly sure how to work through my dress.
19:22So, I wish they would give us more time in this challenge.
19:25But life isn't fair.
19:26So, why the hell should Project Runway be?
19:30Oh, my God.
19:31It's 1150.
19:33How did that happen?
19:36So, at the end of the day, I'm in shock.
19:38I need to finish my skirt.
19:39I need to do the hem.
19:40It is serious freak out.
19:41As the night ends, I know I made a huge mistake because it already looks too short on the dress form.
19:48Unfortunately, I don't have the time to recut this entire dress.
19:52So, I'm just going to have to see what the judges say.
19:54It's midnight and I'm really worried about how things are going.
19:58I just really am trying to work as fast as possible to get everything done on time.
20:02Okay, I'm done.
20:03Wait for me, bitches.
20:05Oh, yeah, yeah.
20:18There's going to be a bloodbath on the runway today.
20:21Yeah, this is going to be a carnival.
20:24Vila, top three.
20:27We're going to be in the top three again?
20:29Yeah.
20:30The prize in this particular challenge is truly a platform for greatness.
20:39So, it is very important to me.
20:42Anna, I have a feeling that our time is running out.
20:45I have a hunch that Anna and I completely missed the mark on this one.
20:50And it might come down between the two of us.
20:52I have a lot of work to do.
20:54So do I.
20:55You forgot your purse.
20:59No, I got it.
21:00I have quite a lot of finishing to do on the shorts.
21:19I'm like in a mode of hysteria.
21:22I'm feeling like I'm pretty much on target.
21:32I think Heidi's going to look amazing in my dress.
21:35I am nowhere near being done.
21:37I mean, I have been nowhere near being done before, but this is like, this is serious.
21:43Designers, this is the biggest challenge in the history of Project Runway.
21:50So, I want you all focusing on these garments and making them absolute perfection, okay?
21:57You have an hour each to send your model to the Garnier Hair Salon and the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room.
22:02I assume you're all using the bluefly.com wall?
22:05Yes.
22:06Yes?
22:07Good.
22:09I'm sending in your models.
22:16All right.
22:17Well, cool.
22:18Where is my jacket?
22:21Oh, you'll be fine once I put the zipper on.
22:25To be able to have Heidi wear my dress for the cover of Marie Claire magazine, that's amazing.
22:32Everyone wants this so badly.
22:34Everyone.
22:35Nice, smoky gray eye.
22:40I don't want anything dark or costume.
22:44I mean, all the adjectives they used to describe me in the pants.
22:50Once it gets past the earlobes, that's when the volume starts.
22:55Make it edgy.
22:58Designers, you and your models and I are going down to the runway in ten minutes.
23:06The dress did pretty much come out the way I envisioned.
23:11Had I had more time, I probably would have added more volume to the neckline, but I'm feeling so confident.
23:17I think that the couple of designers who will have trouble, a lot of their colors are not colors that are going to resonate.
23:23People have these really muted tans and topes.
23:28It's just going to wash out.
23:30Okay, good, good, good.
23:33If I could go back and do this whole thing over again, I would have gone in a completely different direction.
23:43Pedal is broke.
23:46Come on.
23:47I just want to get out of this alive.
23:50Yes.
23:51I'm very happy about my dress.
23:53A part of me thinks, Lord, what if they don't like this dress?
23:56But at this point, I got to be consistent with myself.
23:58I made a decision that I was going to make something I love, and I have got to remain faithful to that thought process.
24:04You did a really great job.
24:06It came out really nice.
24:08Having Lorraine dressed and having her in hair and makeup and everything, the whole look ties together.
24:14I'm wondering, you know, maybe this is the one.
24:16This could be my moment.
24:17Yeah.
24:18I'm happy.
24:19Designers and models, this is it.
24:21We're going down to the runway right now.
24:23Oh.
24:24Oh.
24:25This way.
24:44Welcome to the runway.
24:45As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
24:50Your challenge was to design an outfit for the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
24:56The winning designer's look will be on the April cover, and they will be worn by yours truly.
25:03Okay, let's meet the judges.
25:05First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
25:08Hey, guys.
25:09Fashion director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
25:12Hi, everyone.
25:14And editor-in-chief for Marie Claire magazine, Joanna Coles.
25:18Hi.
25:19We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:23One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:28It's set to show.
25:31I am happy with my garment.
25:33I think that holly looks great.
25:35I think that it does feel like a spring look, and I'm actually happy that I'm the only one that used a print,
25:41which I completely think is appropriate on a cover.
25:46If they put my suit on the front of Marie Claire with Heidi Klum wearing it, I'll guarantee you they sell more copies.
25:55I'm 300% happy.
25:57I think I definitely fulfilled this challenge to the fullest.
26:03It's really a dress that's going to catch somebody's eye on a cover.
26:07Ultimately, everything kind of dissipates, and it's just a big smile and relief and happiness, and I feel like I just showed exactly what I am.
26:14As I watch Carrie walk down the runway, I really feel like the look is a reflection of who I am as a designer.
26:24Heidi was cool and contemporary.
26:27That version of her, I can see being interested in this look.
26:31When she turns that corner, I'm like, yes, ma'am, get into it.
26:42I found a balance between creating the volume as well as showing off a beautiful silhouette.
26:50I don't know if it's the best dress up there, but I think I did my job beautifully.
26:54Had some issues with bulk, but I think I fulfilled the vision that I'd had going into this.
27:03I feel really great about my dress.
27:05I think it looks great on Brandeis.
27:08I'm just a little concerned about the color because I thought I was selecting a peach, and on the runway, it appears to be more of a beige.
27:16The color is amazing. The detail, it's spectacular.
27:25My dress was put together, and Heidi will look hot in my dress.
27:30If I were to win this prize, it really would be huge.
27:34I'm so proud of myself that I came up with something so graceful and flowy and romantic and sexy.
27:49There's something so dramatic about that dress that I love.
27:54This design moves. It looks like butter.
27:58You can just look at it and see the comfort of this garment.
28:01It's so well-crafted. Every seam and edge is lying flat.
28:06And I think that the romper would be a knockout on a cover.
28:11Megan looks so good in the dress. She looks stunning.
28:15And the color ends up being so nice on her.
28:20I'm really pleased. And I think it would look great on a magazine cover.
28:24I couldn't have asked for the color to look any more saturated and vibrant, and I think the thing that excites me the most is that it really is a fresh new take. It's something different, and it ended up being a cover look. So, just keep my fingers crossed.
28:42If I call your name, please step forward.
28:51Seth Aaron.
28:53Jay.
28:54Maya, please step forward.
28:55Jesse.
28:56Jonathan.
28:57Amy.
28:58If I have called your name, congratulations. Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge. You can leave the runway.
29:12The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores. One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be named the winner. And one of you will be named the winner.
29:21The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
29:30One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
29:34Let's bring out your models.
29:39Ben, tell us about your look and why do you think it will work for a cover?
29:47The idea is kind of like a modern interpretation of Madame Butterfly in Technicolor.
29:52So I wanted to really use vibrant colors and a lot of textures.
29:56It kind of acts as a kimono but it still functions as a dress.
30:00A newsstand is a very noisy place and I think this cuts through the noise. It's a good choice.
30:09It feels very modern. I like the combination of the colors and it's as beautiful from the front as it is from the back.
30:16I think you did a beautiful back on this dress, you know, with the little peekaboo and then you edged it out with the yellow.
30:23It definitely has an impact.
30:25I think it's going to be worn by someone who's very confident.
30:28It's a real contender.
30:30Thank you so much.
30:32Anna, tell us about your look.
30:34Well, I started sort of with a color palette that I thought would complement your natural coloring and immediately thought of blue.
30:40I also wanted to reference that reader of Marie Claire that is sort of contemporary and hip and a little bit feminine but not completely whimsical in a sense.
30:49It's going to be on Heidi who has an incredible figure and this gives her no shape or silhouette whatsoever.
30:57It's like three ingredients in a dish that leave you feeling slightly nauseous. It just doesn't work together.
31:06This is not a teen magazine. I think you totally missed what is this magazine about? Who is their reader? And who am I putting this on?
31:16Speaking about the pieces themselves, I think that they're made well, but I don't think you pushed the envelope enough.
31:24Anthony, tell us about your look.
31:26I was truly inspired by you. I thought about every time that you have grazed this carpet and what you're wearing.
31:33I wanted clean lines and I wanted a very feminine silhouette because I did play in my mind, she's no longer going to be pregnant.
31:39So I'm sure you wanted to celebrate your figure.
31:42The costume drama is over. You've entered modern times.
31:49This dress is modern looking. That length is great for her. And you did one shoulder in a new way.
31:56I do like this dress very much for Heidi.
32:00Jesus.
32:02And you are one of the few designers that embraces color.
32:06The color is fantastic. If that's where next spring is going to be, then just beam me there.
32:11The way you place this, it's actually very slimming. So her body looks beautiful.
32:18Okay, Janine, tell us about your look.
32:20I was really inspired by the ocean and the colors of the sea.
32:24And I created this structured dress with these seashell inspired seam lines with a small sort of frothy little bolero.
32:33She's got like the seaweed organza. She's got 9,000 seams. All of that going on. And then I'm going to lay whatever their cover lines are on top of it. I'm going to pass it by.
32:45It's not, to me, fashion forward. It's not like what women in America will look at Mary and Claire like, wow, she looks hot. You know, I want to be that woman.
32:54I'm not getting the beach and the sea reference unless it's a sort of polluted sea with plastic bottles in it.
33:01It's fierce, too romantic, too bridal.
33:05It's just too sweet all around.
33:07When I see Heidi, I don't necessarily see her as sweet.
33:11No.
33:14Mila, tell us about your look.
33:16I wanted something strong, feminine, but still soft. And I just thought this would be really slimming at the waist. Rather than a strong color, I decided to take a chance and go for something fresh and light.
33:30Let's be honest, that peach comes off like ace bandage. And then, once you crop her, she's literally in some kind of weird jog bra with a v-neck.
33:39And these arrows look like they're pointing at her crotch. I mean, this would not work at all.
33:46That color doesn't feel confident. It feels like it's trying to disappear. It looked much peachier when it was in my hands.
33:55Emilio, tell us about your look.
33:57Well, I wanted a very sexy, strong color and very interesting detail from the waist up.
34:03So I chose the silk jersey and teamed it with the ombre lacing.
34:08It's not the easiest thing in the world to make jerseys structured.
34:12And I have to say that you managed to take fabric that doesn't want to do that and you made it work.
34:18You could get a very strong cover with it.
34:21This dress beckoned people to grab the magazine.
34:24I do love the color. I think the detail is beautiful.
34:29But with those little ribbons going on, it just feels very junior to me.
34:34These here. Just these things right here.
34:37Here it goes.
34:38Cut the whole strap off. I'm just curious. The whole damn strap. Just watch.
34:42It's more sophisticated by a long shot.
34:45Open the ponytail. It looks like a baby.
34:47Yeah, let's get rid of old hooks.
34:50You know, we've never done this before. Seriously.
34:54Yeah, it's great. Thank you very much.
34:57Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:00We're gonna have a little chat and then I call you back.
35:02You can leave the runway. Thank you.
35:10Okay, let's start with the designers that weren't as strong.
35:14Janine.
35:16It's so weird that she would design this dress for you.
35:18It's not my style at all.
35:20You said strength. That's the opposite.
35:23Whimsical and mermaidy, but not a cover dress.
35:26Okay, let's move on to Anna.
35:29That was dreadful.
35:30There's nothing special about this.
35:32I'm not sure what her point of view is.
35:35Granted, she made separates.
35:37She managed to make those shorts.
35:39They were well made.
35:40They were well made.
35:41Okay, let's move on to Mila.
35:44The main color of the dress was the color of hospital food.
35:47I would probably have to put on a lot of self tanner, get really tan in order to fight.
35:53This color.
35:54This color.
35:55You would recede right back in this dress and I think people would walk on by.
36:00Let's move on to the ones that we did like.
36:03Let's start with Emilio.
36:04There were a lot of things there that were good, but it had to be sort of redesigned.
36:09Once you got rid of those silly ties that were on her shoulder, I think cleavage, color, a nice line, all of those things I think are great for you.
36:19I liked the fact he had his scissors in his pocket and he was quite happy to chop them off.
36:23Honestly, when you're doing a cover, you need a designer to be able to do that.
36:28Okay, let's move on to Ben.
36:30I think Ben did a very modern, very chic dress.
36:34I think this would be very eye-catching on the newsstand.
36:37Definitely.
36:38It's fantastic that Ben showed this kind of confidence.
36:42Right.
36:45Okay, let's move on to Anthony.
36:47He thought about your coloring, your figure.
36:49It's got a lot of charm about it, this dress.
36:52It makes me feel glad Spring's here.
36:54Even if you were really cropped on that, the strap itself is interesting enough that it has dimension and texture.
37:05Okay, so we've made our decision.
37:07Good.
37:08Let's bring them back out.
37:17One of you will have your design on the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
37:20And one of you will be out.
37:29One of you will have your design on the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
37:33And one of you will be out.
37:35I want to remind you that this is one of the biggest rewards we've ever had for Project Runway Challenge.
37:44And since the reward is so great, the winner will not have immunity for the next challenge.
37:51Anthony.
37:52You are the winner of this.
37:55Oh!
37:58Is this real?
38:00Ow!
38:09Did she say my name?
38:10The color and design details are right on.
38:14I really can't wait to wear it on the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
38:17Oh, thank you so much.
38:20Congratulations.
38:21You can leave the runway.
38:31Guess who's dress will be on the front of Marie Claire.
38:33I think at this moment the judges eyes are open.
38:39And I think that they see that I have taken things and critiques that they've said to me and I'm using them to my benefit and the sky's the limit for me at this moment.
38:48Ben, great job. You're in. You can leave the runway.
38:58Emilio, you're in. You can leave the runway.
39:00Thank you very much.
39:03Anna and Janine, one of you will be out.
39:08Janine, you had a very interesting inspiration, but the look does not live up to it.
39:12It felt more bridal than fashion-forward.
39:16Anna, the vest and shorts outfit is forgettable, and it would not stand out on a crowded newsstand.
39:25Anna.
39:26Anna.
39:27Anna.
39:28You're out.
39:29You're out.
39:30That means Janine, you're in.
39:31You're out.
39:32That means Janine, you're in.
39:33You're out.
39:35I'm out.
39:36I'm out.
39:37I'm out.
39:38I'm out.
39:39stand out on a crowded newsstand.
39:46Anna.
39:50You're out.
39:57That means Janine you're in.
40:07You're wonderful.
40:10You can leave the runway. Thank you.
40:15Thank you very much.
40:22All the best to you.
40:24Thank you so much.
40:35I'm sad that I've been eliminated, but I'm so proud of myself.
40:38Being here and being around so many amazing designers is really just such an amazing thing in itself.
40:45Anna, I have to center the work room to clean up your space.
40:49I know.
40:50You should feel so proud of what you have achieved here.
40:54All right.
40:55We'll miss you out.
40:57Anna, my name.
40:59Ultimately, I'll take with me a confidence in who I am as a designer.
41:02And I know that really amazing things are going to come because I already have.
41:07I have to.
41:08In this field of transparency, I'm not too positive.
41:09I have not.
41:10The field of transparency.
41:11And I think that's the point that I'm doing.
41:12The field of transparency, I can't make that space, and I can make that space.
41:14You can't do that well.
41:15I'm not too much.
41:20I don't have to do it well.
