00:00Since I last spoke to you, I'd asked you about the trade deadline, and it turns out they made some moves.
00:04Obviously, yesterday, the Michael Carter trade, I want to start there.
00:08They did end up moving him, and we saw the writing on the wall after the Jarvis Brownlee trade for the Jets during the season.
00:16So I just want to get your takeaways on the Michael Carter side of this trade and why it made sense for the Jets to part with him now.
00:25Yeah, I mean, I think it was pretty clear he wasn't part of the plan going forward.
00:28They made the trade for Brownlee with replacing Carter in mind, and then Brownlee comes in and plays really well.
00:35So, you know, Carter's number is pretty big for next year.
00:39I think they were going to cut him in the offseason if they had held on to him.
00:43So they just spun him off in a trade, get something back for him.
00:47I think, you know, it makes sense.
00:49The only downside to me is you're a little thinner now in the secondary.
00:53And, you know, I'm not sure, you know, if Brownlee gets hurt or something.
01:00I guess Isaiah Oliver is the slot, and, you know, Michael Carter would probably be a better option than that.
01:04But that's, you know, that's a risk we're probably worth taking for the Jets.
01:09Yeah, Kaz, what I do like about the trade is we recouped that six-round pick that was involved in the Harrison Phillips deal.
01:17So we bring that back in terms of that move up there from a seven.
01:21Six-round picks are important, Frankie.
01:23Hey, I had a lot of quarterbacks I liked in this draft go in the sixth round.
01:28No, but, you know, to me, I know a lot of Jet fans are talking about John Mechie.
01:34That's a receiver that I'm seeing some accounts saying, oh, we got our new wide receiver, too, everybody.
01:40I actually think you might have tweeted that, Ryan.
01:41Yeah, I wouldn't go that far, but is there anything that they've said or you've heard that is interesting about John Mechie coming here?
01:50No, I mean, I think he's just an interesting guy because he was a second-round pick,
01:54and obviously he had the illness that, you know, wiped out his first season.
01:59So, like, I think he's a guy worth taking a flyer on.
02:02There's talent there.
02:03We saw what he did at Alabama.
02:04He was good enough to be a second-round pick.
02:06So that's the kind of guy, you know, you take a flyer on and see if he can get something out of.
02:11I wouldn't have high expectations.
02:13He's done really – he hasn't done much in Philadelphia this year.
02:18But with the state of the Jets wide receiving core, he's going to get some chances here, I think.
02:24So, you know, it's worth a shot.
02:26It is worth a shot.
02:28All things considered, Tyler Johnson, Williams, Lazard, none of these guys are –
02:33Tyler Johnson's played pretty well.
02:36I'm going to stick up for Tyler Johnson.
02:37He has a little bit.
02:38He's done a pretty good job.
02:39Okay.
02:39You know, look, I mean, he's been productive.
02:43He's got – like, it's been pretty good.
02:46So, you know, he's not great.
02:47He shouldn't be wide receiver two or – I guess he was one last week.
02:51But he hasn't been that bad.
02:56Okay.
02:56He hasn't been that bad.
02:57But I will say this.
02:58The state of the Jets wide receiver core needed more talent.
03:02Hopefully, Mechie can provide a little more talent for them the rest of this year.
03:05He is a restricted free agent cause at the end of the year.
03:08Is that correct?
03:08Right, yeah, because his first year – his first year, he didn't accrue because he didn't play.
03:13So, yeah, he's a restricted free agent in 26.
03:15Yeah.
03:15So, look, I mean, I'm not expecting him to do much.
03:17I mean, I'm just – I made a sarcastic remark about the Jets wide receiver two that they just got.
03:22But, like, it talks about more about the state of this wide receiver core that we had.
03:25And I had gone back, cuz, and looked at our season preview episode, and that was, like, the first thing we hammered on is this Jets wide receiver room.
03:32Because they didn't get a wide receiver two in the offseason.
03:35So, look, adding another body in the room, I don't think it hurts.
03:38And we'll see if they can find some diamond in the rough here.
03:43Yeah.
03:44No, I think it's a good throw-in.
03:45I think it's a good throw-in, and it's a good one.
03:48It's a good – it's worth a roll of the dice here for the Jets.
03:50So, look, this will get me eventually to our next segment, but I do want to finalize with the Michael Carter Brownlee part here.
03:57So, Brownlee was brought in, and he's played pretty well now since he's come to the Jets.
04:01Because that seems like – and I heard you talk about this – this seems like an Aaron Glenn type of player.
04:07Aggressive, hard after the ball, you know, clearly has no problem showing his emotion on the field, and even off the field as well.
04:16The Jets making the right move, going with Aaron Glenn's type of guys here, and fully backing and believing, and, like, we want to bring your system players here.
04:25Yeah, they better.
04:26I mean, they hired the guy as a coach.
04:27They better get his guys in here.
04:28You know, he's the guy.
04:31Aaron Glenn, everything revolves around Aaron Glenn in the Jets universe right now.
04:34So, they need to get his guys in here, and I think that's going to be a big focus this offseason.
04:40You know, I think beyond just, oh, we need to get better at this position or this position, it's going to be, can they get guys in here that are going to be Aaron Glenn type players and are going to deliver his message?
04:50I'm not sure they did a great job of that this offseason.
04:53So, yeah, and Brownlee, like I said before, I don't think I was the only one.
04:59The game against Denver, you watched him, you're like, oh, this guy looks a little different, right?
05:03Like, he plays a little different.
05:04I think Quincy plays like that, but the rest of the defense, not quite as aggressive and just fast and, you know, just moving around, like, just emotional, like you said.
05:15So, I think, yeah, I think they need to get more guys like that.
