00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office. Wet and
00:05windy weather on its way through tomorrow. The winds certainly will be a feat of the
00:10weather and the Met Office has issued a warning for Northern Ireland for that wind. Through
00:14this evening and overnight, any showers fading away, away from the far north of Scotland
00:18with a light breeze, it will turn cold with frost. And then this system comes in. Now
00:23this is heavy rain and also strong winds. Gusts over the hills of Northern Ireland could
00:28reach 60, 70 miles an hour, as well as the Outer Hebrides in fact, with some high waves
00:33associated with it. Into Friday, it's blustry showers all the way, but it's a little sunshine
00:37coming through from time to time. Let's pick up on those showers currently across
00:42Southern Scotland and Northern England, even with the odd strike of lightning, but they
00:47will fade. Showers will continue across the far north of Scotland with a keen breeze as
00:52the cloud eases from the southeast of England. Now for most with some starry skies, it's going
00:57to be a cold night. In the countryside in the south, you'll see a local frost, but a widespread
01:02frost across Scotland, even with some mist and fog patches away from the north as well
01:07as the northeast. So a chilly start to the day come Thursday morning, colder than what
01:13we've experienced recently. But for most, it'll be a dry start with some sunny spells. Watch
01:19out for a few fog patches across Scotland. Through the morning, that sunshine will turn hazy
01:24across Northern Ireland as well as Wales. And the first of the rain arrives across Northern
01:28Ireland around mid-morning. Filaments of rain then just extending across West Wales as we
01:34head through the morning Irish Sea coast. Around lunchtime, you can see that sunshine
01:38turning hazy across more central and eastern areas of Scotland, also much of England. And
01:43even a little rain just coming in across Cumbria as well as Lancashire, the southwest of Scotland.
01:49But the heaviest rain with the strongest winds will be across Northern Ireland with some high
01:54winds along the coast. As I said, gusts over the hills, probably 60, 70 miles an hour, generally
01:59speaking 40 to 50 miles an hour. And gales then along the coastline of Scotland as well
02:04as we head through into the afternoon. This rain is persistent and heavy. And notice as we
02:09head through the afternoon, it will extend across the central belt of Scotland towards the
02:13northwest of Scotland as well. The back edge of this rain, also some heavy torrential downpours
02:19are possible. So some lively weather coming our way as we head through Thursday. Dryer skies
02:24always in the mid part of Wales towards eastern counties of England and the far northeast of
02:30Scotland until evening time. And then that rain marches northeastwards. Notice this band of rain
02:35here then moves across England and Wales through the night into Friday morning as it clears Northern
02:42Ireland. And then we start the day on Friday on a blustery note, strong winds. These showers
02:48will rattle across the country, but they will be heavy with the risk of thunder as well as hail
02:53and merge together to form a longer spell of rain occasionally as well. So some, again, some tricky
02:58driving conditions if you are travelling on Friday with more persistent rain arriving from the west later.
03:03Wherever you are, take care and I'll see you again soon.
