00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:04The weather remains unsettled and then stormy through the next few days.
00:08Warnings in force, in fact we have Storm Amy coming in on Friday afternoon into evening time,
00:14overnight into Saturday, more about that in a moment.
00:17For the time being we have training weather fronts affecting the northern and northwestern part of the country.
00:22A yellow warning for rain extends through Wednesday evening into Thursday.
00:26The risk of flooded roads and landslides across the western side of Scotland and it will turn windy as well.
00:32Gusts could reach 45 to 55 miles an hour as that rain intensifies through the morning into the afternoon and extends again northeastwards.
00:40So that's where we're seeing most of the impactful weather through the next 24 hours.
00:45Certainly a breezy day wherever you are.
00:47However, through this evening it's fairly quiet across the bulk of England and Wales.
00:51Notice some patchy rain across the far north of England and that patchy rain could intensify occasionally across Scotland as it tracks northwards.
00:59Similar situation for Northern Ireland, lots of low clouds and also that rain and drizzle just coming and going,
01:05clipping the Isle of Man, the far northwest of Wales.
01:08Temperatures holding up, not as cool as it has been across central and southern parts of England and Wales
01:13and further north holding temperatures around 11 to 14 with the wind and the cloud.
01:18But that rain warning extends through tomorrow.
01:21So in the morning there's a lot of clouds and also that rain and drizzle.
01:25Some dry skies perhaps just for the northeast of Scotland and the clouds will break across England and Wales
01:31allowing for some brighter weather if not some sunshine.
01:34But notice this rain intensifies and enhances across Northern Ireland around lunchtime
01:39extending towards western Scotland again.
01:41So these rainfall totals will gradually rise and the wind's picking up some strength.
01:46Patchy rain across the far south of Scotland, northwest England
01:49and we could see some filaments of rain extending across Irish sea coasts as we head through to Thursday evening.
01:56Temperatures then in any brighter slots than any sunshine.
01:5921 degrees Celsius, 16, 17 across Scotland and Northern Ireland, Northern England, northwest Wales.
02:05Now Storm Amy moves in as we head through Friday.
02:09It's been named by the Met Office.
02:11Impacts will be rain and then wind.
02:13Damaging winds and a lot of rain associated with it as well.
02:17Let's first of all pick up on the rain.
02:19There's a rain warning covering most of Scotland away from the eastern periphery.
02:22So this wet weather sweeps across and extends northwards as those winds pick up some strength.
02:28So the combination will cause problems on the roads.
02:30Certainly there could be flying debris around with the winds as they increase and the risk of surface water.
02:37So poor visibility if you're travelling.
02:38Some high waves associated with Amy with those winds.
02:41So severe gale is likely, particularly across Northern and Northwestern areas.
02:45It's gotten up towards the north there.
02:46Gusty winds elsewhere.
02:48Gusts could reach 60 to 80 miles an hour and it turns windy across more Southern and Eastern areas as we head through Saturday.
02:54And that weather front will cause some problems as well.
02:57Some sharp rain on that as it slowly pushes towards the southeast.
03:01All in all, a lot of wet and windy weather around.
03:04Certainly for the north as well as the west.
03:05But you'll see some rain further south and also a blast to your breeze.
