Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05A split in our weather over the next 24 hours, rain in the north-northwest, fine and dry
00:09further south and south-east with some sunshine.
00:12But notice through Wednesday this trailing weather front continues to bring some rain.
00:18It will pep up from time to time as this yellow warning kicks in on Wednesday evening.
00:23Through Wednesday into Thursday as well as Friday, this is how we see the scenario, certainly
00:28for western parts of Scotland but this warning could be updated in the next 24 hours, generally
00:33around 50 to 75 millimetres of rain, widely though across the mountains we could see more
00:38than that and spot totals could be even higher.
00:41And that's going to cause impacts, particularly with travel, surface water issues, deep flood
00:46water and volumes of water just flowing down mountain sides.
00:50A lot to contend with, in fact through Thursday the risk of gales as well, so some really wet
00:55some windy conditions coming through and eventually we'll see more rain further south as we head
01:00through Friday and into the weekend as this weather front sweeps right across the country
01:05through Friday.
01:06Those winds will be a feature of the weather, a quieter spell of weather into Friday daytime
01:11before more rain arrives.
01:14So let's look at that split in our weather through this evening.
01:18For the north there, patchy rain moving northwards, some drier skies towards the northeast and
01:22fine conditions with some mist and fog patches across England and Wales.
01:26The rain will intensify through the night though.
01:29Notice for Northern Ireland, western Scotland, the central belt through the early hours of the
01:32morning reaching the far northwest later.
01:35A breezy night, a mild one across the north, further south and east under some clearer skies
01:39with those mist and fog patches.
01:41Temperatures could dip down to single figures, so a bit of a cool start to the day.
01:45At least though the clouds will break, you'll see some brighter weather.
01:48Notice for the far northwest of England as well as the Isle of Mound, you will be under
01:52that cloud and also some patchy rain and drizzle.
01:56But this rain could be heavy at times as we head through the morning across the western
01:59side of Scotland towards the north there.
02:01Or patchy further south and east, some sporadic bursts but the odd heavier one can't be ruled
02:06out.
02:07Around lunchtime then, most of the heaviest rain would have left Northern Ireland and not
02:11a bad lunchtime period.
02:13The cloud comes and goes, maybe some patchy rain and drizzle.
02:16But notice on the upslotes towards the western side of Scotland, that's where we continue
02:20to see that persistent rain as the other batch of rain clears towards the far north and east
02:26of Scotland.
02:28So that rain comes and goes.
02:29See some breaks in shelter to the east of the Highlands through the afternoon, even some
02:34brighter breaks through the day.
02:37And you can see here for the far north of England, the far south of Scotland, that's where you'll
02:41see more on the way of cloud.
02:42But rain never really amounting to very much.
02:45Now here are your temperatures through tomorrow, feeling warm in the sunshine and shelter towards
02:49the south as well as the east.
02:51Temperatures holding up 16 or 17 degrees Celsius across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:56But that wind will be a feature of the weather as we head through the latter part of the week.
03:00That rain warning kicks in on Wednesday evening and notice this stream of cloud and rain extending
03:06towards the Atlantic.
03:08So more wet weather on its way for Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and extending further
03:13north and east as we head into the early hours of Thursday morning.
03:17So most of Scotland seeing some wet weather as we head through the day.
03:20Brighter skies to start the day across England and Wales, more clouds across Northern England.
03:25But look what happens through Thursday lunchtime and into the afternoon.
03:28This mass of rain arrives.
03:30So some more heavy weather to arrive across these parts, just really totting up those rainfall totals.
03:36So water levels will slowly rise and certainly where you see some heavier pulses of rain,
03:41there will be issues with flood water as we head through the next few days.
03:46Now for northeastern parts of Scotland, that's where we'll see fewer or less rain.
03:50But certainly you will see some from time to time as we head through the day.
03:54And brighter weather yet again across England and Wales with temperatures coming in 19 or 20 degrees
03:59Celsius.
04:00But these winds really picking up some strength and certainly some high waves associated with it.
04:06So that's the picture on Thursday through Friday.
04:08The first batch of rain clears and then we'll see some quieter weather before more rain arrives
04:13from the southwest.
04:14So all in all, yes, some wet weather to come, some impactful weather towards the north as well as the west.
04:19More warnings will be issued.
04:21Stay tuned to our forecasts and we'll keep you updated.
