Hello. A little bit of sunshine, a fair bit of rain and often some gusty winds.
00:05
It's a typical late October week.
00:08
The rain, first of all. Watch how the rainfall totals will build up over the course of the working week.
00:15
Nowhere immune from some wet weather, some useful rain, of course, across central and eastern parts of England,
00:20
where it has been very dry, but the heaviest rain most likely in the west,
00:25
particularly across northwest Scotland, over the hills and mountains here.
00:28
But, yeah, spells of rain coming and going throughout the week.
00:31
And when that's the case, you can be pretty confident that low pressure will be never too far away.
00:37
And also, you can be reasonably confident that the jet stream is close by to the UK and reasonably active
00:43
because that will be pushing the weather systems and the weather fronts across the UK.
00:48
The isobar is always close together as well, suggesting that it will at times be fairly blustery,
00:53
particularly later this week, as this feature develops an intense area of low pressure,
00:58
looking likely to move to the west of the Republic of Ireland.
01:01
But lots of isobars on the charts and more weather fronts springing, more wet and windy weather through
01:05
as we head towards the end of the week.
01:08
OK, let's put some detail on day by day and we'll rewind the clock.
01:13
First weather system travelling south Monday night, lingering across southern counties of England.
01:18
So it could be a bit of a grey day here, quite a narrow band of rain and drizzle.
01:22
Further north, there'll be some showers for western Scotland, northern Ireland, a few getting into northern England.
01:27
Quite windy too, particularly early on over the Pennines.
01:31
But from a good part of north-east England, much of north Wales, much of the Midlands, east England,
01:36
it's a fine day on Tuesday.
01:38
Dry, bright, a little breezy, but with some sunny spells.
01:41
And we've lost that northerly wind that brought the chill at the end of last week and into the weekend.
01:46
And so with the winds back to the west, temperatures will be back, for most of us, close to the average.
01:51
So maybe creeping into the low to maybe mid-teens across the south.
01:55
Still cold air in place across northern Scotland, so single figures likely here.
02:00
Now as we go through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, we've got a couple of areas to watch out for.
02:06
This area of low pressure bringing some showers into the north-west and this little wiggling, waving weather fronts.
02:11
Now these waves, as they're known, always give us meteorologists a few headaches there.
02:18
And never easy to pin down.
02:20
So where the rain is on Wednesday, it could be a little further north, it could be a little further south.
02:24
But generally speaking, for much of the Midlands, South Wales, southern England and East Anglia,
02:29
Wednesday's a grey day without breaks of rain.
02:31
Maybe something a bit brighter developing over north Wales.
02:34
And there'll be a sweet spot in between those weather systems where much of the day is dry and fine, perhaps over northern England.
02:41
But there'll be plenty of showers still to come in across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:45
Cold air still in place across northern Scotland, so some snow over the tops of the mountains in the showers here in single-digit temperatures.
02:52
Further south, with more cloud and with the outbreaks of rain, it'll be a cooler day Wednesday compared to Tuesday,
02:59
struggling to get into the teens in most places here.
03:02
Now that little wave should be out of the way on Wednesday nights.
03:07
And then eyes down to the southwest for this next developing system that we saw earlier.
03:12
Thankfully, intensifying well away from the UK.
03:15
But it is approaching and will bring some wet and windy weather for sure.
03:18
But it's not really here until later on Thursday.
03:21
So there's a bit of a ridge, a bump in the isobars there.
03:25
A ridge of high pressure, which means it'll be a fine start to Thursday.
03:28
It also means it'll be a cold start to Thursday.
03:32
Temperatures widely in towns and cities well down into single digits and a frost likely in many rural areas.
03:39
So yes, a chilly start to Thursday.
03:41
Could be some fog around too where the winds are light across parts of Scotland in particular.
03:46
But there'll still be a few showers across the far north of Scotland.
03:48
For many though, Thursday should be a sparkling start.
03:51
Plenty of blue sky around.
03:52
But here comes that weather system increasing the cloud in the west.
03:56
Some rain coming into southwest England, Wales and then later Northern Ireland.
04:00
And these areas also feeling the winds starting to pick up too.
04:05
It'll be a chilly start.
04:06
It'll be quite late in the day before we start to see the temperatures getting up into the teens.
04:10
But as I say for many, it's a fine bright day on Thursday.
04:13
And then that weather system we saw earlier continues its track northwards.
04:18
Those weather fronts will take rain across most areas Thursday night and into Friday.
04:22
Look at the ice bars really squeezing together there across the Republic of Ireland especially.
04:26
So we do need to watch this low pressure system.
04:29
The ice bars close together though right across the UK too.
04:32
So a breezy Halloween.
04:35
Spells of rain crossing Scotland and Northern Ireland.
04:37
There'll then be a few showers for England and Wales.
04:39
But there should still be some dry and bright weather on Friday too.
04:43
And that wind has swung around coming up from the south.
04:45
So bringing milder air.
04:46
So with a bit of sunshine Friday we could see highs of 15, 16 degrees across parts of the south and east.
04:52
But it'll feel cooler when the showers come along and feeling cooler especially around western coast.
04:57
With that potentially very gusty wind in place too.
05:01
That system tries to move out of the way as we head into the weekend.
05:04
And then we need to look down to the south because there is potentially something else just spinning up here.
05:09
And that could bring some further wet and windy weather as we head into the weekend.
05:13
One to keep an eye on, one to track, we'll be doing that obviously.
