00:00
It's been a very wet September for England and Wales,
00:04
whereas large parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland
00:06
have been sunnier and drier than usual.
00:09
And that sunnier and drier weather
00:11
is going to become more widespread
00:13
as we head into October.
00:14
It doesn't look that promising to start with.
00:16
This deep low is still bringing wet and windy conditions
00:20
through Monday night and into Tuesday.
00:22
There are more lows waiting in the wings.
00:24
But actually, it's this high pressure
00:26
which is going to squash its way down from the north
00:29
to bring many of us much drier conditions later this week.
00:33
But we start Tuesday still with some pretty heavy rain
00:35
over parts of eastern England, staying pretty damp and cool
00:39
on these North Sea coasts.
00:40
Further outbreaks of rain coming in at times over the Midlands.
00:43
Not as heavy, not as persistent as Monday's rain,
00:46
but nevertheless, damp and chilly in eastern England.
00:49
Much brighter skies further west,
00:51
some sunshine for South Wales, southwest England,
00:53
Northern Ireland, and much of Scotland
00:55
having a fine day on Tuesday.
00:57
With the breeze coming in from the east or the northeast,
00:59
all of these eastern coasts will be fresh.
01:02
15, 16 at best.
01:04
Add on the rain and the wind, it'll
01:06
feel much cooler than that.
01:07
Top temperatures in the sunniest bells down further south
01:09
and west, getting into the high teens perhaps.
01:12
That wet weather, that low pressure system
01:14
continues to only slowly ebb away.
01:17
The high is moving in, but it's taking its time.
01:19
The isobar is just squeezing together a little as well.
01:22
So we'll keep that brisk wind blowing on Wednesday,
01:26
providing some pretty cool conditions again
01:28
along North Sea coast, and still providing showers.
01:31
Across East Anglia, Kent, and even up the Thames estuary
01:34
at times, there will be some showers moving in here.
01:37
So it's not completely dry.
01:38
The odd shower of the Midlands, northern England,
01:40
but many places will have a dry day on Wednesday.
01:44
There will still be that breeze bringing the chill
01:46
to North Sea coast, but it could also
01:48
turn quite gusty over parts of Wales and southwest England.
01:52
Meanwhile, closer to the high pressure,
01:54
the winds will be much lighter across Scotland and Northern
01:56
Ireland, a fine day here once any morning mist and fog
02:00
has cleared.
02:00
Morning mist and fog could become more of an issue
02:03
as we go towards the second half of the week
02:05
as the high tends to drift further south.
02:07
The isobar's opening up a touch, still a bit breezy
02:11
around the coast of East Anglia and along the south coast
02:14
of England.
02:14
But for most, with lighter winds and those clearer skies,
02:18
temperatures will tumble away.
02:20
These are the values in towns and cities,
02:21
but rural spots, certainly across northern Britain,
02:24
likely to be below freezing to start Thursday.
02:27
And as I mentioned, with the high pressure moving in,
02:29
increasing chance of seeing some mist and fog.
02:31
But that should clear away.
02:33
Some cloud will bubble up.
02:34
There may still be the odd shower
02:36
across East Anglia and the southeast,
02:38
but they'll be pretty light.
02:40
For most places, it is a dry day on Thursday.
02:43
Temperatures, again, a touch below the average
02:46
for the time of year.
02:46
Maybe getting into the high teens
02:48
across the south with a little bit of sunshine,
02:50
but we'll have lost that pretty cold wind
02:53
on these eastern coasts.
02:55
Now, as we go towards Friday, things
02:57
will start to shift around.
02:59
Low pressure systems out in the Atlantic
03:01
just starting to nudge the high further and further eastwards.
03:05
May introduce a little bit more cloud and some showery rain
03:08
up towards the northwest on this weather front here,
03:11
perhaps into Northern Ireland.
03:12
But I suspect, again, most places
03:14
will be dry on Friday and a fine and sunny day
03:17
for much of England and Wales.
03:19
And temperatures just ticking up a little.
03:21
There will be a cold start on Friday across the south
03:24
and east in particular, but temperatures generally
03:26
starting to lift a little bit.
03:28
And the bigger picture as we head into the weekend
03:30
is actually low pressure will start to dominate,
03:33
finally pushing away the high that
03:34
will control most of our weather this week.
03:37
The remnants of an ex-Hurricane Isaac
03:39
getting sucked into this low pressure system.
03:41
So quite interesting as we head towards the end of the week,
03:44
but certainly that could bring some wet and windy conditions
03:47
in from the Atlantic.
03:49
As always, keep up to date with the latest forecasts.
