00:00A Los Angeles tow truck driver is facing charges of theft of government property
00:13after authorities say he towed a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement SUV.
00:20It happened during the arrest of 24-year-old TikTok personality Tatiana Mafla Martinez.
00:27The Department of Homeland Security says she entered the country illegally from Colombia in 2022
00:33and was convicted of a DUI.
00:36Now the man the Department of Justice says was behind the wheel, 33-year-old Bobby Nunes,
00:41stands accused of interfering with an immigration enforcement operation
00:45after law enforcement says he towed one of the ICE vehicles boxing in Martinez's car as she was arrested.
00:51The DOJ says Nunes made off with the vehicle while a gun in the keys were still inside.
00:58A DHS spokesperson tells Newsweek Nunes mocked and videotaped ICE officers chasing him during the incident.
01:05They say Nunes was arrested days later and if convicted, he faces up to 10 years behind bars.
01:12Witness video shows Martinez pulled out of the car by her arms and legs.
01:15Agents say she was resisting orders, but her attorney tells ABC7 that she was scared
01:21because the agents failed to show a warrant.
01:24He also believes she was targeted because she had filmed ICE operations as part of her TikTok content,
01:30alerting people to agents' activity.
01:32Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Assaylee wrote in a social media post,
01:36Bobby Nunes is under arrest for brazenly towing an ICE vehicle.
01:40He is charged with theft of government property.
01:42Apparently, he thought it would be funny to interfere with our immigration enforcement operations.
01:48Now he can laugh behind bars while he faces justice.
01:52Nunes' bond has been set at $10,000 and as of Tuesday, he had yet to enter a plea in the case.
