00:00Florida's newly sworn in Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins is in California to help extradite an immigrant who entered the country illegally, facing three counts of vehicular homicide.
00:10Harjinder Singh illegally crossed the U.S. southern border in 2018, according to the U.S. Marshals, and obtained his commercial driver's license in California after getting work authorization from the Biden administration.
00:22The ordeal has brought increased scrutiny on how foreign nationals are able to get the licenses in certain states.
00:32Singh allegedly made an illegal U-turn in a commercial truck on a Florida highway in St. Lucie, Florida, on August 12th.
00:38Video shows a minivan crashing into the side of the truck at a high rate of speed, causing all three passengers to lose their lives.
00:46Singh fled to California and was detained by U.S. Marshals on August 16th.
00:50He's facing three charges of vehicular homicide in Florida.
00:54DeSantis appeared on Fox News Monday night.
00:57Where was the role of the company in all of this?
01:00I don't think this guy spoke English.
01:02He clearly didn't know what he was doing behind the wheel.
01:05And yes, you shouldn't be giving illegals driver's license.
01:08We don't allow that in Florida.
01:10California does.
01:11So how did Singh get his commercial driver's license in California if he entered the country illegally?
01:16In California, a person has to prove that they're in the country legally in order to obtain their CDL.
01:23All applicants for an original, renewal, upgrade, or transfer of their CLP-slash-CDL must submit proof of legal presence in the U.S. as authorized under federal law.
01:34The California Commercial Driver Handbook states,
01:37The White House blames California Governor Gavin Newsom for California's DMV issuing Singh a CDL.
01:43Newsom's press office responded to the White House on X, writing,
01:47Hey genius, the federal government, you, already confirmed that this guy meets federal and state immigration requirements, including that you issued him a work permit.
01:57As usual, the Trump administration is either lying or clueless.
02:01P.S., at Grock, who was president in 2018?
02:04Singh entered the country illegally in 2018 under Trump's first administration.
02:10In 2020, while Trump was still in office, the federal government denied Singh's work authorization.
02:16Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security,
02:21said that the Biden administration granted Singh work authorization in 2021.
02:26Singh then received his CDL in 2023.
02:28DeSantis sent Collins to pick up Singh so he could be extradited to the Sunshine State and criminally prosecuted.
02:35I'm en route to California right now to ensure this individual is extradited back to Florida.
02:41Stay tuned, Collins wrote in a post on X.
02:44DeSantis said Singh will be criminally prosecuted in Florida and then deported.
02:48He said ultimately, this case needs to go beyond criminal prosecution and Congress needs to make changes.
02:54But ultimately, I think you're going to need the Congress to use the power of the purse and defund states like California
03:00that are sanctuary states and they're similar cities because we're trying to do the right thing.
03:07And yet we have to bear the costs from their misguided policies.
03:11It's unclear when Singh is due in court.
