00:00D.C. is back in the headlines with President Trump warning Monday he could declare another national emergency if local police refused to cooperate with immigration authorities just days after his first federal takeover expired.
00:16Trump claimed on True Social that his troops and federal takeover made the capital one of the safest cities in the country.
00:23He also said Mayor Muriel Bowser faces pressure from radical left Democrats and that D.C. police would not assist ICE in removing what he called dangerous illegal aliens.
00:34The president took control of the Metropolitan Police Department on August 11th for 30 days, deploying the National Guard and federal officers to help curb crime and address homelessness.
00:45Some officials called it federal overreach, noting crime in D.C. has dropped to a 30-year low, while police unions welcomed the relief for overworked officers.
00:55Mayor Bowser signed an order on September 2nd vowing D.C. would coordinate with federal agencies, including the FBI, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals and Capitol Police.
01:06However, ICE was not listed.
01:08Bowser said the focus is on public safety, homelessness, city beautification and economic support.
