00:00When Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny told Variety back in June he felt touring in the U.S. was unnecessary without explaining why,
00:08fans speculated it was about ICE raids and protecting his audience.
00:12Now, in a new ID interview published Wednesday, he's confirming that was the reason.
00:20Bad Bunny is currently back home in Puerto Rico, wrapping up a 30-show sold-out residency.
00:26Forbes estimates he brought in a $200 million economic impact.
00:32Next up, his world tour, but without U.S. dates.
00:35When asked by ID if he was avoiding the U.S. because of mass deportations of Latinos, he said yes.
00:42He explained,
00:42There were many reasons why I didn't show up in the U.S. and none of them were out of hate.
00:48He reminded fans Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and Americans can travel there for his shows.
00:54But he also admitted he worried about ICE, saying,
00:57Bad Bunny has never shied away from politics.
01:08Last year, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her run for president.
01:12And in a recent music video, he layered in the political messages.
01:17One scene features a radio broadcast with a President Trump impersonator.
01:21I want to say that this country is nothing without the immigrants.
01:26Until listeners switch it off and walk away.
01:29The video closes with text on the screen translating to,
01:32Together we are stronger.
01:34Bad Bunny's world tour begins November in the Dominican Republic and wraps up in Belgium next July.
