00:00Hours away from the NFL cut deadline, the Jets have released their first big-name player on the roster.
00:05They're waiving wide receiver Malachi Corley one year after drafting him in the third round.
00:11Now, I followed this kid's social media all throughout the offseason.
00:14I really thought he was going to take that step and have a shot to start opposite of Garrett Wilson.
00:20But instead, after not really having any immediate success as a rookie last season
00:25and a pretty quiet spring and summer this year,
00:27the new coaching staff has decided to move on from the player nicknamed Yak King.
00:32And this is something that we see happen when there's a new regime change
00:35and a player that was drafted by the old front office doesn't impress
00:39or really stand out to the new front office.
00:43Former GM Joe Douglas and former head coach Robert Sala drafted Corley 65th overall out of Western Kentucky.
00:50And he was a dog for the Hilltoppers during his four seasons
00:53where he totaled 3,033 yards and 29 touchdowns on 259 receptions.
01:00However, his rookie season with the Jets wasn't that impressive.
01:04He only played in nine games and had three catches for 16 yards and two rushes for 26 yards.
01:10And unfortunately, his most memorable play during his rookie campaign
01:15was when he dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line against the Texans,
01:19turning a would-be touchdown into a turnover.
01:22Now, fans thought a new coaching staff and new offensive coordinator Tanner Ingstrand
01:27could really unlock this kid's true potential,
01:30but he was injured for most of the spring period
01:32and he worked mostly with the third teamers during training camp.
01:36Now, he did have one catch in the preseason and he was used as a backup kick returner.
01:41So maybe Joe Douglas and Robert Sala, the two guys that drafted him,
01:46try and get their new teams to claim them off waivers.
01:48Douglas is now with the Eagles in their front office
01:51and Sala is the defensive coordinator for the 49ers.
