Journey to the West – Legends of the Monkey King English Dub Episode 18 The Mysterious Golden Egg / The Magic Cymbals
Transcript
00:00In the mythical world of ancient China, a land of legendary monsters, evil witches, and sinister villains,
00:13the wise monk Tripitaka and his protector, Monkey, set out on a treacherous journey in search of the fabled Scrolls of Wisdom.
00:23Joined by Pigsy and Sandy, these four companions travel together through this strange and magical world,
00:35enduring perilous adventures and dangerous adversaries on their mission for the Emperor and all of China.
00:43The Legends of the Monkey King is China's greatest story.
00:48It is an expedition unlike any other ever taken.
00:54It is the journey to the west.
01:06As Tripitaka and his companions continued their westward journey, they crossed the kingdom of Jisei.
01:12But arriving at the capital city, they found the streets silent and deserted.
01:18There was no one to be found anywhere.
01:20Warily, they stepped into the royal temple, only to find it too appeared to be utterly abandoned.
01:27Where are the temple keepers?
01:29I fear something dreadful must have happened here to cause them to leave.
01:33But they haven't left, Master. Look!
01:36Two temple monks sat gagged and bound together.
01:40Huh?
01:42What happened here? Who did this?
01:45Whoever it was at least stopped short of doing them any harm.
01:49I fear we've a most pitiful story to tell you.
01:52This royal temple of ours used to be famous.
01:55Monks from near and far would visit here.
01:58You see, this temple is known as the Temple of Light because it contains a magical golden egg which shines with such a brilliant glow that it lights the tower at night and turns it into a beacon seen far and wide.
02:11People came from many lands to behold its light, to offer alms to the temple monks, and most importantly, to pay their respects to our much beloved king.
02:21But all that has changed now. Not long ago, a terrible misfortune struck us.
02:28One night, there was a terrible storm. Thunder and lightning swept over the land, and heavy rains pelted our temple.
02:35And somehow that night, the golden egg mysteriously disappeared.
02:38The king was furious and accused the monks of theft. He ordered the temple closed with us locked inside until we returned the egg.
02:45But none of the monks knows where it is, and so we have been locked in here for many weeks.
02:51Such injustice!
02:53We swear our innocence to you.
02:55Don't turn your backs on us.
02:56If you agree to help us, perhaps we'll be able to discover what has really happened to the magical egg and free our fellow monks.
03:04Master, with your kind permission, I'll begin by cleaning up this temple, and at the same time, I can keep an eye out for any clues.
03:11We shall be pleased to help you solve this mystery and find the egg.
03:15That evening, as Monkey used his magic to sweep the stairs of the temple tower, he thought he heard laughter floating down from the upper floors.
03:23So he dashed up the stairs to locate the source of the laughter.
03:29It seemed to be coming from the attic.
03:32I'm delighted. We did a great job stealing that egg. Lord Snake Herald's pleased.
03:41Yeah, he'll be even more pleased if we bring him back some more baubles.
03:53Where'd that come from?
03:56Hang on.
03:57Shh!
04:05Yeah! Whoa! I got it!
04:06Oh!
04:26What's all the ruckus, huh?
04:28Oh, well, call me a wide-eyed dreamer,
04:30but I have a hunch these two galoots
04:32know a thing or two about that missing egg,
04:34don't you, Master?
04:36We'll take them before the king first thing tomorrow morning
04:39and see what he says.
04:43Welcome, most noble pilgrims.
04:45Thank you, Your Majesty.
04:47We may have found a clue to the missing egg.
04:50Pray, tell me.
04:52We found two very odd fish in the temple.
04:54They refuse to admit any knowledge of the egg's whereabouts to us,
04:57but perhaps they'll tell you.
04:59I want them brought before me immediately,
05:01and I want the truth!
05:03Do you know where the egg is?
05:07It was stolen by our master, Lord Snake here,
05:11and his evil sister, Lady Razerclaw,
05:13and that's the truth, Your Majesty.
05:15Hmm.
05:16They live at the bottom of Emerald Lake, Your Majesty.
05:19It's true!
05:20They live with their father, Duke Singletooth!
05:22This better be the truth, my thunder!
05:24Oh, it is! It is! It is!
05:25I must beg help from you pilgrims
05:27in recovering this magic egg of ours.
05:29Our kingdom is a dark, unhappy place without it.
05:32I volunteer to go to Emerald Lake, along with my friend Pigsy here,
05:35to try and find the egg.
05:36Oh, alright, but next time it has to be Sandy's turn!
05:40So off they flew to Emerald Lake with the two prisoners.
05:44You can do the one that's telling the whole thing!
05:47Huh?
05:48Hey!
05:49Break down, you two!
05:52That's much better!
05:53Huh? Huh?
05:55Huh?
05:56Beneath them lay Emerald Lake, in all its pristine beauty.
05:59Meanwhile, below the surface, Duke Singletooth and Lord Snakehair were discussing the egg.
06:04How sure? I know stealing is wrong in principle.
06:07But this golden egg, why?
06:08It's an absolutely irresistible treasure, and what's more, we deserve it.
06:12Well, let's just hope there's no trouble because of it.
06:17Two fish just fell out of the sky and landed at the gates!
06:20Bring them in here!
06:21They're on their way!
06:26Wait a minute, I know these two!
06:28They're soldiers from my own army!
06:30What's going on here? What happened to you two?
06:41We were captured by a magical monkey who brought us here and dumped us!
06:45Monkey? Here?
06:46Relax, Duke!
06:48I hardly think some flea-bitten monkey is anything we need to be afraid of.
06:52But this is no ordinary monkey, my dear Lord Snakehair!
06:55He has quite extraordinary powers!
06:58I live in fear of no furry creature. I shall defeat him easily!
07:02Oh, I hope so.
07:03Lord Snakehair shot to the surface of Emerald Lake.
07:07Oh?
07:08I shall destroy you monkeys!
07:11Well, you're welcome to try, but it'll take more than the likes of you to defeat me!
07:15No one taunts me and lives to tell the tale.
07:18You need to be taught not to take things that don't belong to you!
07:21I've failed to see how that is any business of yours!
07:32Huh?
07:33Woah!
07:34Ha!
07:35Ha!
07:36Ha!
07:37Wonderöm!
07:40Water cream!
07:43Watch out!
07:45Down went Pigsy to the bottom of the lake.
07:55Have you seen the new prisoner? What a funny-looking fish.
07:59But he's not a fish at all. He's a pig, silly. Don't you know anything?
08:03Having transformed himself into a crab, Monkey scuttled off to rescue Pigsy.
08:07Pigsy, we've got to find that egg.
08:09Cut me down and I'll try to lure Lord Snake here to the lake surface.
08:12Meet me up there in a few minutes. Bye.
08:17The monkey won't dare give us any more trouble.
08:20Now that I've got his porcine friend dressed up like a big sausage.
08:31I'm not the pushover you thought I was, am I?
08:42Hey, I want that golden egg back right now.
08:49Use a little more respect when you speak to me, boy.
08:52Why should I be respectful when I'm speaking to an ordinary thief?
08:58A little rusty there, aren't ya?
09:01Miss me, you miss me!
09:03Are you ready to give up, or do you want to be completely stripped of your dignity?
09:10Ah, I'm too old for this nonsense.
09:15That takes care of the father. We just have to deal with the son and daughter.
09:19Aw, let's take it easy.
09:21Why go to all the trouble of fighting them when I can get the egg by trickery?
09:25Duke Singletooth may have caved in, but those two are no match for us.
09:31Come now, Lady Razorcaw, you must relax.
09:34How about some dumplings, my dear?
09:37Take them away.
09:41Perhaps a cup of tea will calm your nerves.
09:44Leave me alone!
09:45What's the matter with you?
09:47We're giving the egg back. Everyone's calling my father a thief.
09:50Who cares if they call him a thief?
09:56In my book, that's a great honor.
09:58Not mine. I'm giving it back.
10:00I forbid you to do such a foolish thing, and I don't want to hear it mentioned ever again.
10:05Understand?
10:06I've got the egg, and I'll decide.
10:08What? You dare defy me?
10:11Give me that egg!
10:14Give it to me, I tell you!
10:16Let go!
10:17Pigsy, cunningly disguised as a servant girl, grabbed the egg and a dumpling.
10:23This shit fool, help!
10:25You dropped this, you!
10:29Help!
10:30Now I have the egg!
10:31Pigsy knew he'd better leave quickly before his trick was discovered.
10:35Still, he could not resist having a look.
10:39The glow of the egg was tremendous.
10:41Now, now, everything will be okay.
10:44Lord Snakehair realized he had been duped.
10:46I've got it! Look!
10:50Huh?
10:59How dare you!
11:02All right, you win!
11:10Take your egg and leave us alone!
11:13Huh?
11:15I apologize for doing wrong.
11:17The egg was just so beautiful that I could not resist.
11:22Hmm.
11:23Now let this be a lesson to you.
11:24Cheaters never prosper.
11:25And it was.
11:28Neither Lord Snakehair or his sister ever went near the temple again.
11:32As for the egg, it was returned in a solemn ceremony attended by the king of Jisei himself.
11:39Tripitaka was given the honor of putting the egg in its rightful place at the top of the tower.
11:44The temple of light shone once more with a mystical glow for which it was famous.
11:49Once again, the four companions left the country they had just passed through, a happier place than it had been when they arrived.
11:57As Tripitaka and his companions continued the journey to the west, they crossed a beautiful land where a great river flowed.
12:14They did not know it, but this land was ruled by the evil Yellowbrow, who lived in a magnificent temple called Ye Ling.
12:22Look, friends, it's beautiful.
12:26Hey, hey, hey, hmm.
12:30Oh.
12:31Ah.
12:33That temple may be glowing because wise and honorable monks live in it, or it may be glowing for a very different reason.
12:40Something tells me you're suspicious, monkey.
12:42Why else would the temple be glowing the way that it is?
12:45It could be that there's someone evil inside the temple who uses trickery to make it glow to entice travelers.
12:51And then capture or rob them.
12:53You say there could be someone evil in the temple, monkey, but is there?
12:58To tell the truth, I don't know.
12:59Still, it is a possibility.
13:01It's also possible that the glow comes from a huge oven baking dumplings.
13:05There's only one way for us to find out, and that's to go and have a closer look.
13:10Come on, then.
13:12Yah.
13:12Ah.
13:15Woo-hoo.
13:18Ah.
13:19Yah.
13:20Yah.
13:20I see nothing suspicious.
13:27In fact, the temple seems to be a haven of peace.
13:30It seems peaceful enough.
13:31Maybe even too peaceful.
13:33Look.
13:33The name of the temple is inscribed over the entrance.
13:36It is called Ye Ling.
13:40I've heard of this place.
13:41Legends say the forest Buddha lives here.
13:44Ah.
13:45Ah.
13:46My friends, shall we go in?
13:49Monkey, what do you think?
13:50I can't quite say why, but I have a bad feeling about this place.
13:54So, then you don't think that we should go in?
13:58It's my sixth sense, master.
14:00I don't know why, but I think there's danger in that temple.
14:02Of course, it's your decision, ultimately.
14:04I've learned to trust your instincts, old friend, so we'll continue our journey without going inside.
14:09I am the forest Buddha.
14:11Please, come in.
14:12The Buddha himself is inviting us in.
14:14It could be a trap.
14:16Hmm.
14:16Now, Monkey, I think it's rude to talk that way.
14:19We have to accept the Buddha's invitation.
14:21Who knows?
14:22He may give us food.
14:23Sandy, while we go in, you stay out here in case there's trouble.
14:27Yes, Monkey.
14:29And so Tripitaka, Monkey, and Pigsy entered Ye Ling Temple.
14:34Little did they realize that the Buddha sitting before them was actually the evil Yellowbrow in disguise.
14:48Monkey, are you refusing to kneel in my presence?
14:51Monkey, please, do not embarrass me.
14:56Honored pilgrims, your westward journey has made you famous throughout the world.
15:01I have decided to give you one of the books of wisdom that you seek.
15:05This is Raldback, my assistant.
15:08He will now present you with a box, which contains the book.
15:13Pilgrims, that box is made of sapphire.
15:16It is a treasure of great value.
15:19It is not the box that's precious.
15:21It is the book inside the box, for in that book is written the wisdom of the ages.
15:26You were quite right.
15:27Now open the box.
15:29Tripitaka did as he was told.
15:31However, inside the box was no book, but a sleeping potion.
15:35The monkey is still awake.
15:37Somebody get him!
15:37Who are you?
15:51I am Yellowbrow.
15:55While Yellowbrow and Monkey struggled, Yellowbrow's gods were taking Tripitaka and Pigsy into captivity.
16:01Come on, let's go!
16:03Yeah, come on!
16:04Go!
16:05Monkey escaped from the temple with Yellowbrow in pursuit.
16:08Huh?
16:10Seeing Monkey fly away and Yellowbrow chasing him, Sandy knew he had to help his friend,
16:15so he rode off in the same direction that Monkey had flown.
16:19Come on, horse, faster!
16:30Not far ahead of Sandy, Monkey landed in a clearing, with Yellowbrow still after him.
16:40Release my companions!
16:42I'll capture the four of you!
16:46After I've made you my prisoners, I'll make your master my slave!
16:49I'll never let you do it!
16:57Monkey was experiencing the power of Yellowbrow's secret weapon, the magic symbols.
17:08Got you!
17:09Let me out of here or I'll smash my way out!
17:11Try!
17:14Go ahead!
17:19Meanwhile, Sandy had arrived near the clearing and could hear Yellowbrow's laughter as Monkey struggled to free himself from the symbols.
17:29Save your energy, Monkey!
17:31There's absolutely nothing you can do to escape!
17:34The power of Yellowbrow has defeated you!
17:36Sandy sneaked up behind Yellowbrow and recited a spell to put him to sleep.
17:41Magic slumber, make this villain sleep!
17:44Sandy, is that you?
17:46Yes, it is!
17:47I've cast a spell over Yellowbrow.
17:49He'll be asleep for a little while.
17:51Hurry!
17:52Break open the symbols and set me free!
17:54Right, here goes.
17:55I didn't even dent the symbols and Yellowbrow will wake up soon.
18:01What now, Monkey?
18:02We'd better get out of here before he wakes up!
18:06I'll have to roll you.
18:07You're too heavy to carry.
18:08Meanwhile, Yellowbrow's henchmen had locked Tripitaka and Pigsy in the temple and were now rushing to help their master.
18:19Seeing that a sleeping spell had been cast over Yellowbrow, Roundback gave him a magic remedy to wake him up.
18:26Monkeys and the symbols, where are they?
18:28I caught a glimpse of his bearded friend rolling him away.
18:31Well, I can't have gotten far.
18:34Those symbols are heavy.
18:35I'm going after them.
18:41Using his magic powers, Yellowbrow streaked through the sky.
18:45He caught up to Sandy and Monkey near the river.
18:48I've got you now!
18:49There was only one way to escape.
18:57And that was into the river.
19:01You'll be back!
19:02You can't breathe underwater!
19:04But little did Yellowbrow know that they could breathe underwater.
19:08And so, they were safe.
19:10Sandy found a quiet spot on the river bottom to put down the symbols.
19:15We've escaped Yellowbrow!
19:17Now let's decide on a plan of action!
19:19Well, we have to rescue the master and Pigsie!
19:22Yes, we do.
19:23But to rescue them, we have to defeat Yellowbrow,
19:26and I can't imagine how we're going to be able to defeat him,
19:28as long as you're trapped in those symbols.
19:30Then you're just going to have to find a way to get me out of here, Sandy!
19:35The question is how!
19:37Just try smashing it! Hurry!
19:39No, Monkey, I tried that already, and it didn't work.
19:42The only way to get you out of the symbols
19:44is by forcing Yellowbrow to open them himself.
19:47But how will we do that?
19:49Hey, I have an idea!
19:50Carry me back to Yellowbrow!
19:52Carry you back? Why?
19:53Because we're going to pit him under the symbols!
19:56I get it.
19:56In exchange for your releasing him from under the symbols,
20:00he'll have to set you free.
20:01I have brought you here from the temple, Pig,
20:03because your friends are hiding in the river.
20:06Call them to the surface!
20:07But if I do, they'll become your prisoners, just like me!
20:10No, no, no, Pig!
20:11You've got it all wrong!
20:13I want to invite the four of you to a delicious feast!
20:16Oh, well, that changes everything!
20:18Hey, Monkey, Sandy, come to the surface of the river!
20:21We're going to have a feast!
20:23Hmm, you're not coming.
20:25Does that mean the feast is off?
20:26You know, Pig, you're starting to irritate me!
20:29Now call your friends again, and you'd better hope they appear!
20:32Right!
20:33Uh, Monkey, Sandy, would you please come to the surface
20:36before Yellowbrow does something I regret?
20:39Hey, look!
20:40There they are!
20:42As Sandy carried the symbols ashore,
20:45Monkey used magic to make himself heavy.
20:48It was part of his plan to trap Yellowbrow.
20:52Well, well, isn't this an amusing situation?
20:55One pilgrim is trapped inside the symbols,
20:57and a second pilgrim is pinned under the symbols.
21:00Now you are all my prisoners,
21:01and you'll stay that way forever!
21:04Pigsy, knock down Yellowbrow!
21:10With Yellowbrow caught under the symbols,
21:13his henchman, Roundback, attacked Sandy.
21:18Roundback knocked the weapon from Sandy's hands,
21:21then used his chain to capture Sandy.
21:24Next, Roundback turned his attention
21:26to Yellowbrow.
21:28I'll free you, Master!
21:31You can pull all you like,
21:33but you won't free your master
21:34from under the symbols
21:35as long as Monkey is inside the symbols
21:38using magic to pin him down!
21:39Guards, help me!
21:45Let me out of here, Yellowbrow!
21:49After the trouble I took to catch you, never!
21:51Then I'll make myself heavier!
21:53Well, have you changed your mind yet?
21:56No, I haven't, Monkey!
21:58Fine, then you'll stay trapped under the symbols forever!
22:02Yes, and you'll stay trapped inside them forever!
22:05So it would appear, Monkey,
22:07that until the end of time,
22:08you and I shall remain locked in this stalemate!
22:11But if you release Monkey,
22:13he will free you!
22:14Then the two of you can battle one-on-one!
22:16And I'll win for sure!
22:17All right, it's a deal!
22:19When I count to three,
22:20each one of you will let the other one go free!
22:22Is that understood?
22:23Yes, understood!
22:25One, two, and three!
22:30Symbols open wide!
22:32Ah!
22:35Monkey and Yellowbrow leaped into the sky,
22:38but Monkey's foot was still caught in the symbols,
22:41which meant he could not defend himself effectively
22:43against Yellowbrow's attacks.
22:45So he used his magic to create a diversion.
22:50And while Yellowbrow was fending off the two fake monkeys,
22:54the real monkey was able to make good his escape.
22:56Yeah!
22:57Yeah!
22:57Yeah!
23:15He was killed by...
23:28Okay, so you didn't know that he had?
23:28He was just not a bitabilized.
23:31So I spoke about placing the dependencies on his quick Nafton,
23:33so you're thinking about having habit?
23:34Okay, he was trying to do a
23:40And AI was quite a new August.
