00:00In the mythical world of ancient China, a land of legendary monsters, evil witches, and sinister villains,
00:13the wise monk Tripitaka and his protector, Monkey, set out on a treacherous journey in search of the fabled Scrolls of Wisdom.
00:23Joined by Pigsy and Sandy, these four companions travel together through this strange and magical world,
00:35enduring perilous adventures and dangerous adversaries on their mission for the Emperor and all of China.
00:43The Legends of the Monkey King is China's greatest story.
00:48It is an expedition unlike any other ever taken.
00:54It is the Journey to the West.
01:05While crossing the dreaded stone valley on their journey to the west, Tripitaka, Pigsy, and Sandy were lured to the fortress of the evil Jade Witch.
01:15The Witch had disguised herself as a good Buddha, hoping to capture Tripitaka and his companions.
01:21But Monkey saw through the disguise, and an all-out battle ensued.
01:26Finally, Monkey defeated the wicked creature, saving his friends from certain doom.
01:31However, only Monkey knew he'd been fighting a witch, not a good Buddha.
01:36Once they were outside, it was plain to see that what had appeared to be a temple was really a witch's lair.
01:43But Tripitaka and the others were still confused.
01:46When we arrived, this temple was a vision of beauty in the midst of lush green woods, but now it is a desolate ruin.
01:53I don't understand. We all saw it with our own eyes. What happened to it?
01:57You were deceived by an illusion. Now you can see it's a witch's fortress.
02:01But maybe the temple was real, and this is the illusion created by you.
02:06That temple certainly looked more than real to me.
02:10Monkey, I cannot pardon you for what you have done here. I forbid you to continue on this sacred quest.
02:16But no! Master, I was only defending you from the witch, I swear!
02:20I have heard and seen enough to make my decision, and I must now banish you from our company.
02:25I am loyal to you, Master. I've only acted in your best interest.
02:29I will not be swayed in my decision. Be gone!
02:32Master, please don't send me away. Go ahead, discipline me if you want to.
02:36Oh, enough. Go ahead!
02:37Discipline has had no effect. I have no choice now but to turn my back on you.
02:41I'm sorry, my decision is final.
02:44Then I won't argue. I respect your decision, Master, and I will take my leave.
02:52Please allow me a few last words. I beg you, Sandy, you must protect the Master. Will you promise me that?
02:58You have my solemn promise.
03:00We'll be sure to look after the Master. Don't worry. I'm sorry, Monkey. I'm gonna miss you.
03:06Oh, my friends, I wish you all a safe journey and good luck on your sacred quest.
03:20And so, the four pilgrims were now three, as Tripitaka, Pigsy, and Sandy continued their journey without Monkey to guide and protect them.
03:30They left the Stone Valley, and eventually they came to the Green Glades of the Pine Forest.
03:35This was the home of many peaceful creatures, and also of some creatures who were not so peaceful.
03:41Huh? Someone's coming.
03:44Can you see who it is?
03:46I see. I see. A monk and two pilgrims.
03:51Hurry! We've got to inform the Yellow Giant.
03:55The Master and I will rest now, Pigsy. It's your turn to look for food.
03:59And this time, I promise to actually bring some back with me. I'll try not to eat at all like last time.
04:08Guide us through this forest, Goddess.
04:11Still no sign of food. I don't know how much further I can go without eating. I'm starving.
04:16Maybe I'll just lie down and have a little nap here.
04:19Oh, my God.
04:22Two hours. What's taking him so long? Maybe I should go look for him.
04:40What? Yes, go. But be careful.
04:43Tripitaka had no way of knowing that they were about to fall into the clutches of the Yellow Giant.
04:56A monk in our forest?
05:02That's right. I'm the one who saw him.
05:04Ta! You'll get your reward.
05:06A monk would make excellent company for the princess, wouldn't you say?
05:11Oh, yes. Then ring the bell, fools! Ring the bell!
05:15Hmm? A bell. We must be near a temple.
05:25Pigsy.
05:27Oh, Master, just a few minutes more, please.
05:30Pigsy? You were supposed to be looking at me.
05:33Mm-hmm. Oh, Sandy! Hello. I found the most magnificent berry pack, but they weren't ripe yet, so I thought I'd better wait.
05:55Mm-hmm.
05:56Actually, I haven't found a thing, so I guess we'd better head back.
06:01Flowing Moon Temple. A sanctuary of peace.
06:23Greetings, fellow monks.
06:27Huh?

06:42The Master! Where could he be?
06:44There's something not right here. It looks as if he's been kidnapped.
06:47Whoever took him, they're gonna have to deal with me.
06:50We don't even know where he...
06:53What is it that you want? Speak up!
07:08I'm waiting!
07:10We have reason to believe you are holding the monk Chippitaka prisoner, and we demand to see him now!
07:15Hmph. Your boldness is pleasing to me, Pig. Step inside and I'll bring him to you, for I can see what fearsome warriors you are.
07:23I told you we'd be able to rescue the Master if we just set our minds to it.
07:28Hold on. I think it's a trap.
07:30He's right! If you want the monk back, you'll have to fight me for him!
07:34Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
07:36Ah ha ha ha ha!

09:26oh
09:28oh
09:32The bigger they are, the higher they fall!
09:52What happened to the sky?
09:55He trapped us in his rope.
09:58Only fools dare to trifle with the likes of me.
10:02This is one really powerful giant.
10:04If it pleased me to do so, I could leave you there inside the folds of my great robe for all eternity.
10:10But I won't.
10:13He's letting us go!
10:15Not so fast, my friends.
10:18Take these two upstarts and throw them into the dungeon.
10:21They can keep that blubbering monk company.
10:26What are you doing here, princess? This is not your affair.
10:29I have decided I will marry you.
10:32Oh? At last, you're mine!
10:35We shall be wed within ten days. That is, if you'll grant me one request.
10:39You've only to say the word, and I will grant you your wish.
10:43Set all three of your prisoners free.
10:46Oh, set three prisoners? All right.
10:48I shall gladly do as you ask, if it means you truly will agree to become my wife.
10:53This is a glorious day!
10:55You two are free to go, and to take your friend with you.
11:02But won't betide you if I ever see hide or hair of your pitiful carcasses anywhere near here before a thousand years have come and gone.
11:09And now that I've granted your wish, my sweet blossom, surely you wouldn't dream of breaking your word.
11:14Would I be such a fool?
11:17Oh, how long I've waited for this day!
11:19I'm bursting with joy!
11:21Chippitaka, Pigsy, and Sandy were free.
11:30They set out at once, knowing that straight ahead of them lay the palace where Princess Blossom's father made his home.
11:37You're awfully frisky, Pigsy.
11:39I was just thinking how I'd like to go another round with that giant.
11:43We were lucky to get out of there in one piece.
11:45Yes, we are all greatly indebted to the princess for her sacrifice.
11:51And so, the three travelers journeyed on, without the banished monkey, leaving the yellow giant and Princess Blossom far behind them.
11:58Chippitaka, Pigsy, and Sandy were traveling westward, but monkey had been banished and was no longer with them.
12:13They were carrying a letter from Princess Blossom to her father.
12:16The princess was a prisoner in the fortress of the yellow giant.
12:20After the giant captured Chippitaka and his companions, the princess had convinced the giant to set them free by agreeing to marry him.
12:27In return, Chippitaka had promised to deliver a letter to her father.
12:32And so, on they traveled, day and night, till they reached her father's palace.
12:37When Chippitaka told the palace guards he had a letter from the king's daughter, he was immediately ushered into the throne room.
12:44The letter is from his daughter.
12:47Sire, a letter from your daughter!
12:49What's that? He has a letter from my daughter?
12:52Come forward, monk, and read it to me!
12:54Quickly, man! Quickly!
12:59Read! Read!
13:00If heaven decrees that this letter reach you, dear father, then at last you shall know what's become of me.
13:06The evening I disappeared from the palace, I was playing with one of my ladies-in-waiting on the roof.
13:11I was blindfolded for our game, and so I never saw the evil yellow giant swoop down onto the roof
13:17and transformed himself into a stone elephant, where he lay in wait for my approach.
13:23I'll bet you're hiding behind the statue like you did last time!
13:36Princess! Help! The princess has been kidnapped!
13:39He flew away with me to his great stone fortress, where I lay many hours in a dead faint.
13:48At long last I came to again.
13:53How do you like my future bride?
13:56A wonderful bride!
13:58And she's such a lucky girl!
14:00Who is it that wants to take me as a bride?
14:02Who else but our lord and master?
14:05That's why you're here!
14:06And who is this lord and master of yours?
14:08They bow to me, and me only, and once you are my wife, you shall as well.
14:13Huh! You see? He likes you!
14:15No! I don't care! I'll never marry you!
14:17But how can you dream of refusing? Think how safe and protected you'll be here with me!
14:23I shall never agree to marry you!
14:26Oh, please, won't you let me go home to my father?
14:28You stay here as my prisoner till you agree to give in to me!
14:33And now, in order to secure the release of the pilgrims who brought this letter,
14:36I have agreed to marry him.
14:38Please, father, I beg you to rescue me before the wedding takes place!
14:41Enough! Which of you will save her?
14:50Who is the greatest warrior among you?
14:53That's you!
14:54Huh? Your Majesty, no one in our army can defeat the yellow giant!
14:58Is that so?
14:59Oh, it's true, Your Majesty, no one!
15:01Then what shall I do?
15:03If I may be so bold, Your Majesty, there is someone I might suggest for the task.
15:08One of my traveling companions by the name of Pigsy.
15:10Pigsy?
15:11Pigsy?
15:12Bring me this mighty warrior, for I would like to meet him!
15:15Yeah!
15:16Woohoo!
15:18Woohoo!
15:19Ah!
15:20Ah!
15:21Ah!
15:22Ah!
15:23Ah!
15:24Ah!
15:25Ah!
15:26Ah!
15:27Ah!
15:28Ah!
15:29Ah!
15:30Ah!
15:31Ah!
15:32Ah!
15:33Ah!
15:34Ah!
15:35Ah!
15:36Ah!
15:37Ah!
15:38Ah!
15:39Ah!
15:40Ah!
15:40Ah!
15:42Ah!
15:42Ah!
15:44Ah!
15:45Ah!
15:47Ah!
15:55Ah!
15:56How did you come to change color?
15:58It's only dye. The elephant made me do it.
16:03So what if I'm pink? It's my courage that counts. Isn't that so?
16:08Indeed. But would your courage waver if I were to send you to take on the Yellow Giant?
16:13Hmm. Well, Your Majesty.
16:17I don't mean to brag, but I've already fought this Yellow Giant once, and I'd love to go another round.
16:22And if he uses his magic against you? Huh?
16:25Well, I have magic powers, too, and they're more than a match for anything he can throw at me.
16:31Show me.
16:33Don't say I didn't warn you. Here goes.
16:42Should I keep going?
16:46I don't even have to stop here.
16:49You satisfied?
16:50I beg you, come down.
16:52I can touch the clouds if I want to. If you don't believe me, I can show you.
16:57No, I believe you.
16:59What reward do you ask for carrying out this task?
17:08A huge meal would be more than enough.
17:11No.
17:12No, I won't settle for anything less. And here's the belly you've got to fill.
17:17Huh? Well, you shall have what you ask for.
17:20I want a gigantic feast prepared for the pig upon his return from the giant's fortress.
17:25Then there's nothing left for me to do but go, if you'll allow me.
17:29You have my blessing.
17:36Sandy, I want you to follow him. On his own, Pigsy may not be able to defeat the Yellow Giant. Go.
17:42I will.
17:48Is there no end to the wonderful things they can do?
17:52You are fortunate indeed to have such brave companions.
17:56Yes, I truly am among the most fortunate of men, Your Majesty.
18:00But I don't need help. I can handle this.
18:12Like it or not, you've got me.
18:14Have you forgotten what happened the last time?
18:16The two of us together were barely able to hold off the Yellow Giant.
18:20So, are you ready for this?
18:22I am.
18:23Then prepare for the battle to end all battles.
18:26What's the plan?
18:27I say we go ahead and storm the fortress.
18:29That's your plan?
18:30Oh, fine. I'll do it myself then.
18:32But...
18:32We have come back and this time no more Mr. Nice Pig.
18:41I'll bet you he's worried now.
18:49You dare to come back?
18:52Did I not banish you from my realm?
18:54Why have you returned?
18:56We have come for the princess and we order you to release her immediately.
19:01Do as we say or you'll regret it.
19:03Have you forgotten how invincible I am when I release the powers of my magic robe?
19:09Wait a minute.
19:10Why don't you try fighting me without using any magic?
19:13I accept your challenge.
19:15Now we'll see just how strong you really are.
19:18Men, stand aside.
19:21I'll teach you a lesson you won't soon forget.
19:26Unless you want to surrender now.
19:32There's nothing more amusing than a heroic little pig.
19:36Laugh all you want.
19:37You've met your match.
19:39Oh, I have, have I?
19:41Huh?
19:41And so, the combatants joined in a tenacious battle.
19:47Try again!
19:52Is that all you got?
19:56Whoa!
20:00That was painful.
20:02Hey, get up, pig!
20:04I'll get you!
20:15Now I know why they called you yellow!
20:21Tricky Taco is right.
20:22Pigsy will never be able to beat him alone.
20:23Yeah!
20:24Yeah!
20:24Yeah!
20:25Yeah!
20:29Take this!
20:32The mighty warrior.
20:48See what happens to those who oppose me.
20:50Not so fast.
20:52This fight isn't over yet.
20:53Yeah!
20:54Take this, yellow pig!
20:56This one looks better, but he'll never last.
20:59Enough of this nonsense.
21:04Who never said I wouldn't use magic?
21:10Look at him!
21:13The master is in trouble now!
21:22Hey, giant!
21:23Not so big now, are you?
21:25What?
21:25No!
21:26No!
21:30Well, that takes care of that.
21:34Pigsy, look out behind you!
21:36Huh?
21:37Uh-oh.
21:39Sorry, pig, but I'm afraid it's time I put my foot down.
21:43You said you wouldn't use magic.
21:45All right, if you insist.
21:47It makes no difference to me.
21:52Hey, giant!
21:53Let's see if you're ready for this!
22:00Impressive!
22:01Come back for more!
22:05Hey, Sandy!
22:07Hold him up for as long as you can!
22:08I'm gonna go get some help!
22:12Leaving so soon?
22:13Where's he going?
22:15Hey!
22:15One down!
22:20God, seize him!
22:23Hunt down the pig and bring him to me!
22:29I saw him go into these trees.
22:31He can't have gotten far.
22:34He's here.
22:35He just jumped into the water.
22:37Well, he's gonna come up for air sometime.
22:39I'm not taking any chances.
22:40I want you to search every single inch of that pond.
22:46Why hasn't he come up yet?
22:48If you want my opinion, he's gotten away.
22:50You incompetent fool!
22:51I'd sure like to know how he pulled that off.
22:54Pigsy was safe.
22:56For now.
22:57Fell for it.
22:58Hook, line, and sinker.
22:59Take care, please.
