00:00Rick, listen to me.
00:11You will make it through the night.
00:14You will not do anything crazy.
00:16I was really concerned about Rick all weekend long.
00:19I just want for him to really get over the situation with my sister.
00:23Rick seems a different person already today.
00:26He's going to bring in this new lady that he just started dating.
00:30She actually spent the weekend with him.
00:31That's awfully quick to hop in bed with somebody else.
00:36I'm a little concerned about Missy meeting her.
00:39No, she needs to come before Melissa gets here.
00:43Ah, here we go.
00:56You know, I was really concerned about Rick.
01:14You know, I was really concerned about Rick all weekend long.
01:29Then I found out that this lady friend of his, she actually spent the weekend with him.
01:35That's awfully quick to hop in bed with somebody else, in my opinion.
01:39I went home Friday night, and I had a voicemail message on my cell phone from Lori.
01:45You know, this is a woman I only talked to a couple of times face to face.
01:48So I said, well, if you want to take a chance, I'll take a chance.
01:51Come on.
01:52You don't invite some woman over to your house for an entire weekend if you're that miserable over a breakup.
01:57We drove up to the airport, and I got the airplane out, and we flew up to the mountains to a little airstrip that I know that has a pretty cool restaurant.
02:06Lori's actually coming by here this afternoon on her way back to her house.
02:10Rick is going to bring in this new lady that he just started dating.
02:14She sounds like a great gal.
02:15I'm actually looking forward to meeting her.
02:17She's pretty game.
02:18You know, she knows what she's walking into.
02:19Right, and I admire her for that.
02:22I mean, who knows what?
02:23I mean, I don't, my heart is not open for any kind of a relationship, and I'm certainly not open to fall in love.
02:30I'm still in love with Melissa.
02:30I'm kind of excited to meet her.
02:33Apparently, she has noticed him for a long time at Starbucks, and she finally got the nerve to approach him.
02:40You know, I told him, I said, maybe he'll fall head over heels in love with this woman.
02:43And if he does, that's great.
02:45If he doesn't, that's great, too.
02:48I just want for him to really get over the situation with my sister.
02:52And I kind of wonder if she's going to be here when Melissa comes in, so that may not be a good thing.
02:58And I hope Missy, this is what she wants.
03:01If it is, then now the pressure's off her.
03:03And if this isn't what Melissa wants, then tough s***.
03:07She can't play games, you know?
03:09I want him, I don't want him, I want him, I don't want him.
03:11Good.
03:11She don't want him?
03:12Fine.
03:13That's cool.
03:15Oh, God.
03:17Oh, wow.
03:19Oh, that is just wonderful.
03:23Oh, here's the head massage.
03:25Oh, wow.
03:26Rick and I, we have a great friendship, and we always will, and that's the way it remains.
03:32He's just, he's going through a time right now.
03:36I'll do it.
03:37I love being by myself.
03:38I really love it.
03:40I don't need a man to make me complete.
03:43Let's go rinse out.
03:44We're going to rinse out.
03:45Yay.
03:50Stinks in here.
03:51What's the deal?
03:52Smells like a damn goat farm.
03:54Who am I picking up with the Amese?
03:58Um, York.
03:59David York.
04:00All my smoking is in Texas.
04:04Do you have the release, Chuck?
04:05No.
04:08Let's see.
04:09I think I got everything.
04:11I have a 9 o'clock arrangement.
04:13There's nothing up here about services, but it says a gravesite.
04:16My name is Karen York.
04:20I came here because my husband, Dave, died Monday morning.
04:24I'm John.
04:25Hello, John.
04:25I'm Karen York.
04:26This is Chris.
04:26I'm Trish Thomas.
04:27And that was Melissa.
04:29So how I would like to start the arrangement, then, is start by taking the vital information
04:33on David, which is the information that's going to be required by the state of California.
04:36No problem.
04:37Did David retire from the military by chance?
04:39He was in from 67 to 87.
04:42He had been talking about the fact that he did want to be cremated.
04:44He did want to be in a national cemetery.
04:46Okay.
04:46Now, is there a specific date that you were looking to hold the service at Fort Rosecrans?
04:50I need to let friends, family, out of state know so they can be down here.
04:55And if it helps any, I brought a copy of the DD-214, which...
04:58That is a big help.
04:59I told her that's more important than her birth certificate.
05:01It sure is.
05:02Well, what's interesting about them is they're pretty prepared.
05:05They must have been prepared.
05:06The guys are the medical examiner, so I don't know, you know, what the circumstances behind
05:09the death is, but they seem pretty well prepared.
05:16I'm here for Mr. York.
05:20Okay, you look lovely today.
05:23I have personal property, too, if I understand.
05:25Okay.
05:26All right?
05:27Oh, s***.
05:29Yeah.
05:32Okay, this was a suicide.
05:36And, uh, in his driveway at home, died of acute carbon monoxide poisoning in a matter
05:44of minutes.
05:46I mean, I knew there were suicides, but I didn't realize how many until I got in this business.
05:50And it doesn't matter.
05:51It covers all ages, you know?
05:53Okay, all ready for you.
05:55Bring your cup.
05:55All right?
05:55There must be some sort of a thing that goes on in your head that it's like, okay, this
06:02is going to be over with.
06:03Yeah.
06:04No more pain, no more happiness, no more loneliness, no more anything.
06:09It's just going to be over.
06:10I'll see you later.
06:11Thanks.
06:18Man, it's just sad, that song.
06:21This is Dave and our baby.
06:26Born in the morning after he got back from the third and final trip to Vietnam.
06:30He got back from Vietnam.
06:32He wasn't, as I'm sure you're all aware, he wasn't the same as the gentleman who left.
06:37Um, as the same man who left, that, uh, he'd be very close-mouthed, very quiet and get
06:47a funny look on his face.
06:49And all of a sudden he changed the subject very rapidly or just say, forget it, you know?
06:55And the thing is, we don't know if he wasn't suffering from depression.
06:58Yeah.
06:59You wouldn't know.
06:59If he was a quiet man to begin with and, you know, was seclusive to himself, he wouldn't,
07:04wouldn't even be able to tell.
07:06I'm a veteran.
07:07I'm a former Marine.
07:08And, uh, you got to look at the treatment that they received when they came back.
07:11People didn't have the understanding that they have today.
07:13I mean, they disagree with what we do today, but at least they support us.
07:18This is Dave.
07:19Yeah.
07:20I did not stand at my grave and, grave and cry, I am not there.
07:27I did not die.
07:28No.
07:29And as long as you're remembered, you never die.
07:34Thanks, sweetie.
07:37Thank you, dear.
07:37You're welcome.
07:39I don't think it's really, really hit her.
07:41It hasn't yet.
07:42You can tell.
07:43That's just, it's too much to deal with.
07:45What affected me is that he was a Vietnam veteran that didn't go over, uh, the experiences
07:51that he experienced and, unfortunately, commit suicide, you know?
07:56Um, I don't know if that was directly related to the reason he committed suicide, but I'm
07:59sure it's a step towards.
08:03There's so many different things I could say.
08:05I would like to pass on the words from his brothers in Vietnam that they were only a phone
08:11call away.
08:12Instead of taking such drastic measures as he did, he could have given them a call and
08:17they would have been down here the next day or within hours to help.
08:28So I'm excited to meet Lori.
08:30I told her to give me a call after lunch and come down, so I don't know exactly when.
08:35I just don't think Missy needs to know anything, actually, to be honest.
08:38If she asks me, I'll tell her.
08:39She had her chance.
08:40She decided she didn't want to be engaged anymore, so she's got to deal with consequences.
08:45No, she needs to come before Melissa gets here.
08:47Oh, it's beautiful.
08:50Yay.
08:53Go down to the vacuum store, purchase a new Bissell, write the check, bring a receipt.
09:00Then...
09:00Oh, here we go.
09:03Hey, it's nice to meet you.
09:05Me too, you too.
09:06I've heard about you.
09:07Yeah, likewise.
09:08Now I have a face to the name, which is great.
09:10Good.
09:10Nice to meet you.
09:14Everything's cool?
09:15Everything's great.
09:16Why don't you meet Shawna?
09:20And this is Lori.
09:21Hi, Lori.
09:22Chuck is Emily, Melissa, and Shawna's dad.
09:25You're the dad.
09:26I'm the dad.
09:27Nice to meet you, Dad.
09:28She's pretty game, huh?
09:29To walk into this?
09:30Uh-huh.
09:31This whole mess, meet all these new people?
09:33The last time she spends here, the better off she'll be.
09:37Let the dysfunction begin.
09:38Yeah.
09:39I'm Shawna.
09:40Pleasure to meet you.
09:41Pleasure to meet you, too.
09:42And I owe you a hug, too.
09:43I owe you a hug, too.
09:44Oh, yeah.
09:45Did you meet my dad?
09:46I did.
09:47Dad, did you meet one?
09:48I did.
09:49I think I've met everybody now.
09:50Can you believe that she's willing to walk into this lion's den?
09:52I don't even want to walk in here.
09:54That's so bad.
09:55We're all trying to figure out how we can get a job at Starbucks.
09:59Open up your own.
10:00How else do you get a job at Starbucks, right?
10:02Exactly.
10:04Oh, she's cute.
10:05Yeah.
10:06She's quite attractive.
10:08Well, thanks.
10:09Well, thanks.
10:10Lori, would you like a little tour of the involving room?
10:12Go with her.
10:13Talk to her.
10:14Okay.
10:15Hey.
10:16If they get along fine and everything's great, then, you know, take the heat off us.
10:21But if they start biting...
10:24Well, this is my dirty office.
10:27Where are they on the tube?
10:28Well, actually, there's more, but they're in the cooler.
10:31So, I'm trying to start an embalming that should have been done, like, four hours ago.
10:36But, yeah, so it looks like you've seen it all.
10:38Yeah.
10:39I hope things work out, man.
10:42Everyone, it was really great meeting you.
10:44It was a pleasure to meet you.
10:45I'm so happy to have faces and names now.
10:49Are you going to walk me to my car?
10:50Yeah.
10:52She's very intuitive and eloquent in being a writer.
10:57You might expect that, but it kind of caught me off guard.
11:00Can you call me later?
11:02Bye.
11:03Have fun tonight.
11:04Call me later.
11:05She's kind of like I am.
11:07She says what she means and she means what she says.
11:09I like that.
11:10But we'll see.
11:11We'll take it one day at a time.
11:12Apparently, John, he has a new woman.
11:13Right on.
11:14She walked in.
11:15She's blonde.
11:16Yeah, I'd say she's attractive.
11:17I'm not mentioning blondes myself, but she's, I guess, I feel like blondes are attractive.
11:30Uh, what do you think?
11:31Oh, I think she's lovely.
11:32I think she, she's really 44.
11:33Yeah.
11:34Wow.
11:35I'm sure she'd be real happy that you told America that.
11:36I don't know.
11:37So what do you think?
11:38Well, that's what I wanted to talk to you about.
11:39Emily came in the bathroom.
11:40She goes, I gotta talk to you.
11:41I go, what?
11:42She said, did you see Rick's date?
11:43I said, no.
11:44Why?
11:45She said, oh my God.
11:46She said, she's given Missy a run for her money.
11:47Because she's very attractive.
11:49I mean, you know, unless there's something wrong with her, why isn't she with somebody
11:53else?
11:54I mean, usually pretty women are, you know, connected to somebody.
11:57She said she's cute and she's got a good body.
11:58I go, you're a kid.
11:59I go, you're a kid.
12:00I'm not a kid.
12:01I'm not a kid.
12:02I'm not a kid.
12:03You're a kid.
12:04You're a kid.
12:05You're a kid.
12:06I'm a kid.

12:09I'm a kid.
12:10You're a kid.
12:11You're a kid.

12:26want any hurting going on no i don't either you know well she's made her choices and she damn near
12:32killed me by making her choices so i mean you know what my true concern is what once missy sees her
12:37missy's gonna come knocking on your door again that is my true concern if you want to know the

14:13from lexi because she loves melissa she's you know hoping that we're going to be able to work out
14:19whatever our problems are i told laurie that i was going to go to arizona by myself and i really
