Journey to the West – Legends of the Monkey King Episode 2 English Dub "The Magic Robe / The Monster and the Monk"
Transcript
00:00In the mythical world of ancient China, a land of legendary monsters, evil witches, and sinister villains,
00:19the wise monk Tripitaka and his protector Monkey set out on a treacherous journey in search of the fabled Scrolls of Wisdom.
00:29Joined by Pigsy and Sandy, these four companions travel together through this strange and magical world,
00:41enduring perilous adventures and dangerous adversaries on their mission for the Emperor and all of China.
00:49The Legends of the Monkey King is China's greatest story.
00:55It is an expedition unlike any other ever taken.
01:01It is the Journey to the West.
01:05While the wise monk Tripitaka and his companion Monkey continued their westward pilgrimage in their quest for the Books of Wisdom,
01:20the evil monk Kam Fong had set off on a mission of his own.
01:24He was riding to Black Wind Mountain to offer a delicious gift to the hungry monsters who made their home in the Cave of Darkness.
01:39The fire burns brightly. Soon our potion will be ready. And then what a fine supper we'll have, won't we?
01:48I'll taste it first.
01:49No you won't. I will.
01:53But you'll gobble it all up.
01:55I should be the one to taste it first.
01:57What you did last time.
01:58And I got none.
01:59Well someone has to be the first to taste it.
02:01Someone should be me.
02:02It's nice.
02:03It's ridiculous to argue over such a thing.
02:05You do eat like monsters.
02:07Of course we do. We are monsters.
02:08Honourable monsters.
02:10I brought a gift of honey for you.
02:17Indeed.
02:20Delicious.
02:21We must reward the monk for his gift.
02:24Yes.
02:25But I seek no reward.
02:31We know you came for a magic bean, so you shall have one.
02:41That bean's just added 100 years to your life.
02:46Many thanks to you.
02:48Now that he had what he wanted, Cam Fong returned to his home in the temple of the goddess Kuan Yin.
03:01Look! The master has returned. Go to him quickly.
03:05Welcome.
03:07Have any of my precious robes been lost while I was away?
03:10No, master. Every single one of them is safe and sound.
03:14That is good.
03:15Huh?
03:17Monkey?
03:18Strangers are approaching. Quickly, take my robes inside.
03:21Yes, master.
03:29Stop here.
03:30But why, master? I don't understand.
03:33I'll walk.
03:36Huh?
03:39Why walk if you don't need to?
03:40Monkey, you have much to learn.
03:42We walk in order to show our respect for the holiness of this temple.
03:52Oh.
03:56Chipitaka and Monkey had no idea that danger lurked within.
04:05The great temple of Kuan Yin, a most sacred place.
04:08Who is there?
04:10Two pilgrims seeking shelter.
04:14Hmm.
04:16This is a sacred place. We do not shelter beggars.
04:18Calm yourself, monkey.
04:20Please, we are travelers who come from the great Empire of the East.
04:23Darkness is falling and we humbly ask to be allowed to spend the night here.
04:26The Empire of the East? Wait there while I consult with my superior.
04:37You are indeed most kind.
04:40He isn't kind at all, master. He's rude. Why are you being so polite?
04:43Hmm.
04:46Huh? A monkey?
04:48Yes, my fellow traveler is a monkey.
04:51May we come in?
04:53The temple of Kuan Yin is open to you.
04:55We are deeply grateful.
04:57Our superior awaits you.
04:58Welcome to the temple of Kuan Yin, honored guests. It is a very great privilege. I must pray.
05:19Our holy guest looks more like a holy fool.
05:26Hmm?
05:28Honored guest.
05:30Yes, Reverend Monk.
05:32You have come to us from afar, yet you've no baggage with you.
05:36All we need is in Monk's satchel.
05:38Ah, then it must contain a treasure of great worth.
05:41There is no treasure, Reverend Monk. For a man of faith, treasure holds no value.
05:46Of course, you're right.
05:47There's no treasure. There's something better.
05:50Huh?
05:52We have a robe, one of the finest in the world.
05:54Monkey, stop these idle boasts.
05:56As a collector, I'd very much like to see this robe.
05:59Uh, uh, monkey.
06:04This should prove amusing.
06:06Monkey.
06:08Oh.
06:10Well?
06:11It's right here.
06:13Hmm?
06:14That's the finest robe in the world.
06:18That's right. Isn't it lovely?
06:22Stop playing the fool. You've overstepped your bounds.
06:26This robe of ours is worth more than your temple and everything that's in it.
06:30Hmm? You dare say this to me?
06:32Sure.
06:33You're not real, pilgrims. You're rogues and vagabonds and you've overstayed your welcome.
06:40Throw the impostors out and show them no mercy.
06:43Stand firm, monkey.
06:44Stand firm, monkey.
06:46Ah!
06:47Ah!
06:48Oh, no!
06:50Ah!
06:51Ah!
06:52Ah!
06:53Ah!
06:54Ah!
06:55Ah!
06:57Ah!
07:01Ah!
07:03Ah!
07:04Ah!
07:05Ah!
07:06Ah!
07:07Ah!
07:08Ah!
07:09Ah!
07:10Ah!
07:11Ah!
07:12...mystery to me.
07:23Ah, honored pilgrim, lend me your robe for one night.
07:27It is out of the question, and now my companion and I shall take our leave of you.
07:32I beseech you to stay. Please take pity on an old man.
07:36I beg you not to leave, honored guest.
07:39Oh, just one night, that's all I ask.
07:44My life was meaningless before I saw that robe. Don't take it away.
07:52You see, even the goddess Kuan Yin's heart breaks to see you taking leave of us.
08:04Her tears are a sign. I shall do as you ask.
08:07What are you waiting for, Reverend Monk? Show us some gratitude.
08:11Yes, a thousand thanks, good sir.
08:14That'll be quite enough.
08:19Later that night, after Tripitaka and Monkey had gone to bed, Cam Fong began to hatch an evil plot.
08:26I want to get rid of those pilgrims. But the question is, how?
08:30We'll take care of them, Master.
08:32Not me. I'm not going to fight with that monkey.
08:34You're right. A fight will be too risky.
08:36I have a better idea.
08:38I have a better idea.
08:45Hurry!
08:46Are they both asleep?
08:47Mm-hmm.
08:48Well, Master?
08:49Start the fire now, and send those pilgrims on a journey from which they shall never return.
08:53It was truly delicious.
09:04Mm-hmm.
09:07Well, Master?
09:08Start the fire now and send those pilgrims on a journey from which they shall never return.
09:18It was truly delicious.
09:22No less than we deserved.
09:24And for once, there was enough for us all.
09:26Thanks to the monks, honey.
09:28Allow me to say, there's nothing like a meal shared with humble friends
09:32to put a monster in a foul humor.
09:37No! There's a big fire down in the valley.
09:40Must be that old monk's temple.
09:43Delightful as do.
09:44I love a good fire.
09:45Oh, me too. And the more it destroys, the more I like it.
09:49I'd love to stay and watch it, but I'm dreadfully tired.
09:53Time I turned it as well.
09:56Sleep well.
09:57While the monks are distracted by the fire, I'll steal something.
10:01Like some more honey.
10:13Change!
10:14We won't be seeing those two anymore.
10:32Now that they're out of the way, the rope is yours forever!
10:34Oh!
10:36Forever mine.
10:38Honourable monks!
10:46What?
10:46Ha!
10:47Thought you were rid of me?
10:49Think again!
10:50Ha!
10:51Ha!
10:51Ha!
10:52Ha!
10:52Ha!
10:53Ha!
10:53Ha!
10:54Ha!
10:54Ha!
10:55Ha!
10:55Ha!
10:56Ha!
10:56Ha!
10:57Ha!
10:57Ha!
10:58Ha!
10:58Ha!
10:59Ha!
10:59Ha!
11:00Ha!
11:00Ha!
11:01Ha!
11:01Ha!
11:02Ha!
11:03Ha!
11:04Ha!
11:05Ha!
11:06Ha!
11:07Ha!
11:08I dreamed the great temple was on fire.
11:17It was no dream, Master.
11:19Hmm?
11:20Uh, what happened?
11:23The evil monk burned down the monastery.
11:28Hmm.
11:29Master, it's funny that you should have dreamt the temple was actually on fire.
11:33I also dreamt that a bear monster living in Black Wind Mountain stole my robe.
11:39Huh?
11:40Huh?
11:41Huh?
11:42We can't go on without that robe.
11:43Trust me, oh master.
11:44I'll find it.
11:45Monkey, you are noble and brave, but be mindful, treachery is everywhere.
11:50Hmm.
11:51Hmm.
11:52Hmm.
11:53And so monkey flew off to recover the robe so that he and Tripitaka would be able to continue
12:03their journey to the west.
12:06The wise monk, Tripitaka had dreamed that the bear monster of Black Wind Mountain had stolen
12:16his magical robe.
12:17So his faithful companion monkey flew to the bear monster's abode, planning to use every trick
12:22he could think of to recover the precious robe from the hands of the wicked bear.
12:27Monkey arrived while the bear monster and his friends were in the midst of a celebration.
12:35Oh, brother bear, when are you going to tell us what exactly we're all celebrating here?
12:43Hmm.
12:44Yes.
12:45We're all dying to know.
12:46You're a clever bunch.
12:48Let's see if you can guess.
12:49My guess is that we're all here to honor my great beauty.
12:53Is that it?
12:55Cause I agree.
12:56Our snake monster is truly a rare pearl.
12:59Nice try, but you're wrong.
13:01Matter of fact, you're not even warm.
13:04Then I guess it must be in honor of me.
13:08Are we honoring wolf monster's brilliant mind?
13:11He he.
13:12Afraid not.
13:13Hello.
13:14Hey, you.
13:15Come tell my guests what we're celebrating.
13:18We're celebrating the fire that destroyed the great temple of Kuan Yin.
13:22Oh.
13:23We provided the spark and fanned the flames into a great inferno and the two pilgrims had to beat down the door and run.
13:29We're rid of them.
13:31Excellent.
13:32Yeah, we routed them.
13:34They won't trouble us again, thanks to our treachery.
13:37They headed for the hills like scared rabbits.
13:40Fair.
13:41If I know you, you took advantage of the fire to do some thieving.
13:44Hmm?
13:45Did you find anything of value?
13:47Hmm, yes.
13:48The curiosity's killing us.
13:50As you know, I'm no fool.
13:52And that fire did provide me with a golden opportunity to pick up a few choice items to add to my overflowing coffers.
13:59Oh, you're a master of evil.
14:01Aha!
14:02The monkey!
14:03I accuse you of stealing the robe belonging to my master and I demand that you give it back to me.
14:08What robe?
14:09You must be out of your mind.
14:11Give back that robe!
14:25Hey, don't cry over spilled milk.
14:27Just give back the robe.
14:29Hmm.
14:30You'll pay for your boldness.
14:31Bring me my spear!
14:33Monkey was up against a mighty opponent, for the bear had indeed stolen the robe,
14:37I would not part with it easily.
14:39Hmm.
14:40Your accusations are false and you'll pay dearly for them.
14:44I'm telling the truth.
14:45Do you think I'd risk my life if I weren't completely sure of myself?
14:48You're bluffing and if I were you, I'd abandon this foolish game of yours.
14:52I know you have the robe and I won't give up till I get it.
14:55What proof do you have for these wild accusations you're throwing around?
14:59My master saw you steal the robe in a dream.
15:02And that's what you call proof?
15:04Dreams prove nothing.
15:05If I were to tell you that I had a dream in which you ran screaming at the sight of my mighty spear, little monkey.
15:13Ha! Dream on, bear!
15:16Monkey knew that Trippiteka's dream was worth more than the bear monster's words.
15:20The truth was on Monkey's side.
15:22Even though the bear was a fierce foal, Monkey had to recover the robe or he and his companions would not be able to continue on their mission without it.
15:30All right, I'm starting to lose my temper.
15:35Monkey!
15:36Master, what are you doing here?
15:38Monkey!
15:39Huh?
15:41We must try to resolve this dispute with reason.
15:49Oh.
15:50Huh?
15:52GM
15:55Hope you've enjoyed reasoning with me.
15:58Wait!
15:59You have much to learn.
16:01to learn. One who uses violence
16:03will always be inviting worse against himself.
16:07Master!
16:08Look out below!
16:11Whoa!
16:14Okay!
16:16Sorry, I meant to hit the bear.
16:19Well, looks like we're getting the better of him.
16:22Master!
16:24Who dares to attack you?
16:25Take me to my cave and prepare yourself
16:27for battle. Huh? Hey, don't think you
16:29can sneak away, my friend.
16:31I came here because you stole my
16:33master's robe, and no one goes anywhere
16:35till I get it back. I suggest
16:37you ask Cam Fong about your precious robe.
16:39Don't try and pin the blame on someone
16:41else. It just makes me a whole lot
16:43madder. Monkey, wait!
16:46I've had just about
16:47enough of you and your... Monkey, listen. Huh?
16:49Master? It may be wise
16:51to heed the bear's words and seek out
16:53this monk Cam Fong. He may know
16:55something about the robe. Don't think
16:57you'll get away with this. You haven't heard the last from me.
17:01You must
17:03be Cam Fong. I'm here for my
17:05master's robe. I don't know what you're talking
17:07about. Don't press your luck with me.
17:09Please, I'm old and weak. I'll
17:11tell you everything. The evil monk Cam Fong
17:13admitted that in order to steal
17:15the magic robe from Tripitaka,
17:17he had to put on a false display of
17:19sorrow. But far worse,
17:21he had used wicked and deceitful means
17:23to bring forth false tears
17:24from the statue of the goddess herself.
17:26Only someone truly evil
17:28would do this. Her tears
17:30are a sign. I shall do as you ask.
17:33No, a thousand
17:35thanks, good sir.
17:36That'll be quite enough. Because
17:38of the generosity of his nature,
17:40Tripitaka was taken in.
17:42Now you should be mine forever.
17:44Cam Fong had planned all along to steal the
17:46robe, and when the opportunity
17:48arose, he took it.
17:51Boldly, he put on the
17:52stolen robe that was reputed to have such
17:54strict powers. Well, you sure don't
17:57look like much.
17:59But something started to go
18:01badly wrong. Don't squeeze
18:02so tight. Let me go.
18:05I can't breathe. Stop, stop,
18:06strike.
18:08You, please, release me, robe.
18:13Poor fellow. As long as he
18:14continues to think evil thoughts, the robe
18:16will give him nothing but trouble.
18:19Ah, that's
18:21better.
18:21Well, that was
18:24unpleasant.
18:26There's got to be a way around
18:29this, and I'll
18:30find it. Then I can
18:33control my friends and enemies alike.
18:35The moment Cam Fong had this evil
18:36thought, the robe tightened its grip
18:38on him again.
18:44Off with you, then!
18:47But he had to
18:48have the robe. I know what
18:50I'll do. I put it in a safe place
18:52until I can figure out how to use
18:54his powers safely.
18:57There!
18:59Later that night,
19:00Cam Fong and his henchmen met
19:02and hatched a plot to rid themselves
19:04of Tripitaka and Monkey.
19:06Now!
19:06In the dead of the night,
19:08they made their way stealthily to
19:10the temple, where the pilgrims lay
19:12sleeping, and prepared to burn it
19:14to the ground.
19:15But their plan
19:16was not to succeed.
19:18Monkey, ever alert,
19:20heard the whispering of the monks outside
19:21and sensed that something was up.
19:23Are they both asleep?
19:26Proceed with the plan.
19:28Start the fire now
19:29and send those pilgrims
19:30on a journey from which they'll never return!
19:32The flames were quick
19:38to climb the walls
19:39of the old temple,
19:40but Monkey knew
19:41what to do.
19:42His first duty
19:43was to protect
19:43the sleeping Tripitaka.
19:45Once that was done,
19:46Monkey transformed himself
19:48into a nimble groundhog
19:50and escaped the flames
19:51by brewing under the earth.
19:53But he needed
19:54a higher vantage point.
19:58Forever
19:58mine.
19:59Cam Fung
20:01was sure the robe
20:02would be his
20:02once the pilgrims were gone,
20:04but they'd more than
20:05met their match
20:06in Monkey.
20:07Honorable monks!
20:09Thought you were rid of me?
20:11Think again!
20:14Ha!
20:17And that was how Monkey
20:18drove the evil monks
20:19from the temple.
20:20But in the meantime,
20:21unbeknownst to Monkey
20:22and Cam Fung,
20:23the bear monster
20:24had snuck into the temple
20:25and stolen the robe.
20:27You're gonna give me
20:27back that robe!
20:28The robe is mine!
20:30You can't have it!
20:33Open this door!
20:40Monkey could not let Cam Fung
20:42carry out his greedy plans.
20:44The robe was too precious
20:46and too dangerous
20:48to let it fall into
20:49the wrong hands.
20:55I'll teach you
20:56to fool with me!
20:58Quick, but not quick enough!
21:09Quick, but not quick enough!
21:11you're not as powerful
21:32as you thought!
21:33can'tace us!
21:34That's why!
21:35Space!
21:36Rise up!
21:41Protective shell!
21:44Very good!
21:45you've made your own
21:46little oven!
21:47And how helpful!
21:50Bang! Bang!
21:56Victory is mine!
22:14Green had finally undone Camp Fong.
22:16He was returned to his former state as a cockroach.
22:19Look!
22:21Such is the fate of those consumed by greed.
22:23The temple monks were set free from their servitude.
22:26We are so grateful!
22:28You'll behave yourselves from now on, you hear?
22:31It wasn't our fault. Camp Fong had all of us in his power.
22:35And it was your weakness that allowed him to...
22:39We still haven't found the robe.
22:41I am certain the bear monster has your robe.
22:43For while the great fire was burning,
22:45we saw him running through the flames to Camp Fong's chamber.
22:48Yes, he took the robe. I saw him do it.
22:52Monkey, it's true. I saw this bear monster take the robe in my dream.
22:56Then I shall get it back!
23:00Good luck!
23:02And so Monkey went to find the robe.
23:04Blue & Fire!
