00:00Hi there and welcome to the latest update from the Met Office.
00:04Deja vu, another day of low cloud for much of the UK.
00:09Not for everyone, of course, the usual places most likely to see some cloud breaks.
00:14In fact, clear blue skies once again for parts of central Scotland, especially the Highlands and Grampians.
00:21North Wales as well.
00:22Well, the general rule is that areas where we've got some rugged terrain will be those areas that help break up the low cloud.
00:30It's a thin but stubborn sheet of gloom out there and it's thick enough to give a few light showers into the east of England, for example, during the afternoon.
00:40Otherwise, most places will be dry and with light winds as well.
00:44It's going to be reasonably mild but not feeling particularly pleasant, I think, being as it is another day of largely grey skies for most places.
00:55A few light showers come along later for Shetland and we'll continue to see some light showers overnight into parts of eastern England.
01:02Otherwise, it's a dry night and there will be a lot of cloud around, so mostly frost and fog free.
01:09But there will be some cloud breaks, increasingly so, I think, for parts of northern England, even the south of England prone to some cloud breaks, as well as west Wales and central parts of Scotland once again.
01:22And where we see those cloud breaks, temperatures dipping into the mid-single figures typically and a few mist patches forming in some sheltered valleys where we get those cloud-free skies.
01:32Otherwise, it's a similar start on Thursday to every other morning this week.
01:37A lot of cloud out there and that cloud will be stubbornly persistent throughout the day.
01:43There will be some breaks forming here and there.
01:46Couldn't rule out breaks anywhere.
01:48Eastern, southern areas could see one or two brighter spells come along.
01:53But otherwise, it's mostly a cloudy day, even parts of Scotland seeing that cloud fill in.
01:58And the north of Scotland seeing an increase in the drizzly showers as the day progresses.
02:03One or two continuing, for example, towards the southeast, especially parts of Kent.
02:08Temperatures similar to the last few days, 12 to 16 Celsius.
02:13Then heading into Thursday night, well, the showery stuff in the far north moves south.
02:19Helps to clear the air for Shetland.
02:21And this is a little bit of a weak weather front that's dipping south, introducing some clearer and cooler air across Shetland.
02:29And we'll see some cloud breaks elsewhere, the far south and west of the UK, for example.
02:33But essentially, going into Friday, high pressure remains on top of the UK.
02:38Very little wind to shift this cloud around the high.
02:42Very few systems coming along to move it for the time being.
02:45That is until Saturday night into Sunday, when the Atlantic starts to return, pushing bands of rain in from the west eventually.
02:55But for now, it's more of the same, more of these gloomy skies for many of us.
