00:00Dubai, a modern city that is the height of luxury. This place will impress even the most seasoned
00:06travelers. Put behind all the malls and posh beachfronts, there's another side of the city
00:10worth visiting. A part of the city that is reminiscent of the history of the Arabian
00:14Peninsula and culture. Today we are taking a break from indoor skiing and futuristic museums to
00:19explore old Dubai. We're going to go wander around the gold souk, the spice souk, probably some other
00:26souks and just have a good time. So we'll take you with us. So we're shopping at the gold soup. We're
00:32just kind of window shopping, walking in stores, seeing how much things are. Gold has a daily price
00:36just like stocks. In all the stores they have the gold price for 24 karat, 18 karat, 14 karat. So you
00:42take that, they weigh it however many grams it is. One gram, two gram, three grams worth of gold. And then
00:47they calculate the price and add a small markup obviously because they need to make money. So you
00:51can kind of get a feel for what things are going to cost based off the karat of gold and how much it
00:54weighs. And then you can feel free to negotiate with them. Sometimes they'll come down, sometimes
00:58they won't, but you know, it's part of the fun. So we're just going to keep windows shopping and
01:02try not to spend too much money. Yeah, that didn't last long. Yeah, I can make it shorter. Yeah. She
01:08looks happy though. So that's what counts. Lauren's an easy target for the thick Gucci bags. I don't want a
01:13Gucci bag, but they keep trying to give me a Gucci bag, Louis bag, Gucci, Louis, Indie, Prada,
01:18everything. As a tip, buy things from the vendors inside the stores. People walking around are
01:24trying to sell fake bags, fake watches. Man, if I had endless money, I would be rocking that gold chain.
01:30Woo! Not into it? No. Found a really cool necklace. It was 22 karat gold, but I don't know. It's a little
01:37pricey. I don't like spending money. Like perfectly reasonable for what he's trying to buy. He's just
01:41being ridiculous. I think Lauren wants to dress like this. We need more Maddie. I've wanted a gold chain for a long
01:47time, and I've never bought one. I was not going to buy it, and Lauren eventually forced me to as a Christmas gift
01:52from her. So I'm rocking a new gold chain, which is nice. We finished our Christmas shopping right here, too, so
01:59checking out multiple things off the box. Right near the gold suit, you'll also find a place to buy the first and
02:05finest camel milk chocolate in Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed has actually been here, and they even have a replica of his car
02:12made out of camel milk chocolate. They have these like huge chocolate-shaped camels, little caravans,
02:18but I settled with some gifts from my family and my co-workers, so hopefully they'll enjoy these when
02:23we get back. If you're wondering, camel's milk tastes kind of similar to real milk, but it has less fat,
02:29and it's saltier. So a camel actually only produces two liters of milk a day compared to a cow, which produces
02:36much more. And so if you want to try camel's milk chocolate, you just want to make sure that you're finding
02:40something that's truly all camel's milk because some people will blend it, but this is a great
02:44place to check out if you're looking for it. Leaving the gold market and headed to the spice market.
02:50Near the gold souk is all other kinds of souks. It is a lot of fun checking out the local shops,
02:54getting to know the local shopkeepers, and supporting local businesses. We finished shopping,
02:59and we worked up an appetite, so we're about to cross the river via boat, hopefully, and then go get some
03:04food and some coffee. Oh, that's great. I don't look at my sunglasses. So we are here, and we want to go here,
03:12so we're going to figure out how to do that.
03:17We're on the boat. We're going to cross. It's so cute. There's like these boats everywhere,
03:20and everyone's just sitting on the boat, and it looks fun, and we're excited. This is a good boat.
03:26Water taxi.
03:26So whenever you need to cross the river, they have water taxis, and it costs anywhere from
03:37one to five Durham, depending on where you're trying to go, but you just pay, and then you
03:42can get on those water boats right behind me. It's pretty efficient and pretty fast, and you
03:47can literally just get right across the river over there, so it's much better than trying to
03:52wear across the river. Okay, let's go find some food. Al Fahiti, this is our favorite. Let's go check it out.
03:59It's already looking pretty.
04:11Cheers, we're back with the lemon mint juice. This might be my favorite juice in all of the world.
04:16I've missed Middle Eastern juice.
04:20Yay!
04:22We went for a light lunch, but it came out to be more food than we thought.
04:28We have this cute little Instagram spot out front. The shadows are a little weird right
04:31now, though, so our pictures came out a little odd, but behind the scenes, food was delicious.
04:38The juice was cold. I had some good chickpeas. I had a lot of bread. Now I'm very full.
04:47So now we got to walk it off.
04:48He's a happy camper.
04:49We're walking off some of the KCALs, and we're going to go maybe to a coffee museum,
04:54which should be interesting.
05:08I smell coffee.
05:09So we're at the coffee museum. We got a little bit of coffee while we walk around. It was
05:1510 Durham per person to enter, but you get to walk around, just kind of see all the old
05:20ways coffee was made in different parts of the world, which is pretty cool. I wish I had
05:23an audio guide, though, because I, you know, don't really know what I'm looking at. I can
05:26tell, like, a grinder from a thing to pour it out of, but, you know, it's still fun.
05:31I got samples.
05:31It's the best way to get some coffee, and I got samples.
05:34Yeah, got some Ethiopian coffee to start, and we're going to walk around and see what
05:37else we find.
05:39If you're tall, you've got to watch your head, though.
05:45He'll smack your head off.
05:47He says coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world, second to oil.
05:52The more you know.
05:53I should have gotten the coffee business.
05:57So many babies.
06:01They're, like, all cuddled up on each other.
06:03It's so cute.
06:10All right, Uber, back to the hotel, freshen up.
06:17They do have Uber in Dubai, if anyone was wondering, and it's pretty quick.
06:21That evening, we got cleaned up, ate a more traditional dinner family style, and had our
06:25own private area to ourselves, which was amazing.
06:28It looks like you're, like, scavenging before this floor of it.
06:32The way you just looked at me.
06:35This is not right.
06:37Thank God we have this privacy curtain, because Garrett is, like...
06:41This seems to be a reoccurring problem for me.
06:47Garrett's length, flexibility continues to be a problem in Asia.
06:54Post-dinner, we headed to get a traditional dessert.
06:56Okay, honestly, when we left the Arabian Tea House, a different location earlier, I could
07:02not stop thinking about those, like, donut balls that I saw on the table, and the tea that
07:06we totally missed out on ordering, so we're on another location, and we're ready for round
07:10two.
07:19Sweet hands, spicy.
07:20Oh, thank you.
07:22They're essentially, like, donut balls, so they're fried.
07:25They should be a little crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and they're covered in a
07:29date syrup with sesame seeds and walnuts.
07:32It's definitely crunchy on the outside, but the inside is so soft and warm.
07:39It's covered in this date syrup, so it's sweet, but it's not too sweet, which is great.
07:45It's definitely a little sweet.
07:47Very good way to end the evening, so now we're just taking a walk along this beautiful white
07:52sand beach.
07:53The weather is so perfect right now, so just going to enjoy this before we call it an evening.
08:02We're partying.
08:04Thanks for watching, and we'll see you in the next video.
