00:00Buenos dias from Colombia. My name is Garrett and behind the camera is my wife Lauren. We are
00:05currently in Salento, a small beautiful colorful town tucked away in the A&E's Mountain. While
00:10Salento is notable in its own right for colorful buildings and delicious food, it's most famous
00:15for its proximity to the Kokora Valley and coffee farms. We just wrapped up breakfast at our hotel
00:22and now we are headed to a coffee farm tour. I'm going to want to make sure that you have a good
00:29bug repellent. Normally I don't like putting that many chemicals on my body but definitely
00:33get the deet out here. Garrett just got bit and his arm looks a little terrifying because
00:37we didn't put our bug wipes on before breakfast. Looks kind of scary. So make sure that you
00:42get some of these. We order these off Amazon. Highly recommend for traveling since there's
00:46no liquid involved. Make sure you wear sunscreen too. We're out here just responsible. The
00:51closer we get to 30 the more responsible we get when we travel and also the earlier we
00:56go to bed. Our willie is almost here to pick us up. Let's go.
01:03Good day. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going.
01:06Thank you very much, Don Bernardo. I'm there. He's cold.
01:10The tour started in the best way possible with coffee samples. After a quick coffee lesson
01:30from our awesome guide Steven, we were ready to hit the farm.
01:37Alright, it's time to gear up.
01:40Tie in the belt bag.
01:42I'm going to go pick some coffee.
01:45If you find the flower, please smell it. You're going to feel an amazing aroma.
01:51Hiking up to find the coffee plants that are ripe. I'm a yummy coffee farmer.
02:01Well, guys, I'm going to pick a green one. Well, you're going to be fired from the farm,
02:07okay? Go carefully.
02:09Got to find the red coffee beans. That means that they're ripe. It's not in season, so we're
02:13not picking too many. I'm beating you. Yeah, I got three. You got two. Pick it up.
02:22I'm happy. I like this. You're a pretty good farmer.
02:28It's been a hard day's work, partner. You wouldn't have got paid nothing.
02:32I wouldn't have, no.
02:35We just throw the beans on the top of the machine, and right here, we obtain the coffee beans,
02:41but without the shelf.
02:43Coffee drying. Okay?
02:45This coffee has caramel notes and chocolate notes.
02:49Quick little snack break, and the time has come to roast this coffee.
02:54We're not destroying the coffee beans.
02:57We're going to be on the top.
03:04Keep moving the coffee a little bit.
03:06Camera? Action.
03:14How about this?
03:16One second, okay?
03:18Look at the color, my friends.
03:20It's a caramel. It's made of honey color.
03:22We just finished our coffee tour at Luger Coffee.
03:27We bought some souvenirs, and now we're about to get back in the willy and go get some lunch.
03:36A willy is a retro-style Jeep that is the mode of transportation here in Cilento.
03:41Normally, you get in a willy with a bunch of other people.
03:44They pack them full. There's usually people hanging off the back.
03:47Today, we were lucky enough that our tour actually came with a private willy ride.
03:51We learned from our guide that the willies were actually purchased by the Colombians from the United States after World War II.
03:56They did a big sell of them to get rid of them, and a lot of countries like Colombia purchased them.
04:01They're basically the main way to get around the bumpy roads of Cilento.
04:05You can pick them up from the main square.
04:07They're pretty inexpensive, comparative to getting like a private taxi.
04:11It's about a dollar, two dollars US per person to get to the Cocora Valley or into any other coffee farms.
04:17And they packed them full.
04:21We call it Farmer Diamonds.
04:24I got steak and Lauren got toppings on a banana chip.
04:30Let the record show that I am very excited about my stuff on banana chip.
04:35After we said goodbye to our guide, we walked around town, got a cup of coffee.
04:39There's a lot of good restaurants in this town, a lot of good coffee shops, and that's a big part of what we've been doing.
04:45And then we came back to our hotel just to chill for a little bit.
04:48We sat on the balcony, enjoyed the view.
04:50Yeah, no thanks.
04:52I'll be out of here.
04:54Took a shower.
04:55Now we're going to head back out, buy some snacks for the hike that we're doing tomorrow, as well as go to dinner.
05:00Treating Venezuelan food for the first time, and it looks delicious.
05:14For one on the list is, of course, arepas.
05:16This arepa was so much bigger and better than we were expecting.
05:20Very good.
05:25And these entrees tasted as good as they looked.
05:27They also had a vegetarian option, which was equally delicious.
05:38That Venezuelan food was delicioso.
05:41Oh, the Venezuelan food was out of this world.
05:44We highly recommend this place if you're in Salento.
05:46We had sopita, soup.
05:49We had ensalada, a salad, two large entrees, two juices, and arepa just for fun.
05:57The lady literally was like, are you very hungry?
05:59And we were like, si.
06:01The food was so awesome at this place.
06:03I don't know if it's all Venezuelan food or just that place, but I am definitely Googling
06:06flights to Venezuela when we get back to the hotel.
06:12Buenas noches.
06:13Buenas noches.
06:14We're gonna get some sleep, and tomorrow we are headed to Kikora Valley to do the full
06:18hike, and we're really excited.
06:22Buenas noches.
