AccuWeather's Bill Wadell is in Atlantic City where flooding is expected later today during high tide.
Transcript
00:00People down at the Jersey Shore have been dealing with flooding since Sunday.
00:03AccuWeather's Bill Waddell is live in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where the storm will push even more water later today.
00:11Around, I believe it's 1.30 this afternoon, and it is going to be a huge problem for that entire area.
00:19And as I'm sure you know, Bill, not only the shore, but into the back bays.
00:24Oh, absolutely. Bernie, Ari, good morning to you.
00:27And that's why officials are telling people, be prepared for even more water and move those cars to higher ground.
00:32You can see here at the boardwalk in Atlantic City, there's barely anybody out here.
00:37We've got the boardwalk to ourselves.
00:39A very rough surf here this morning.
00:41But again, we're coming out of low tide.
00:43So most of the flooding issues that were happening earlier this morning before the sun came up, most of those are receding.
00:48All eyes, as you said, Bernie, on 1 o'clock, around 1.30 this afternoon, when we're expecting that next high tide,
00:54where we could see some major flooding issues here.
00:57Now, take a look at the video.
00:59You could see from the boardwalk, not many people have been out in the wind and the rain.
01:05We only saw a few families bundled up in ponchos.
01:07Most of the conditions keeping people inside Sunday afternoon.
01:11We've seen flooding in trouble spots.
01:14It's already been causing some problems this weekend.
01:16And early this morning, a number of roads to the Atlantic City area were closed.
01:20Emergency officials here in Atlantic City are warning people to stay away from the water
01:24and to move those cars to higher ground and out of vulnerable areas.
01:29Saltwater flooding, of course, can cause even more headaches than freshwater flooding damage.
01:36So you still have time to move vehicles to higher ground.
01:40We still have the Wave parking garage.
01:43And we'll recommend the residents that if their car was in water today, to move their car to higher grounds.
01:48If it's too much saltwater, your car is going to be wrecked.
01:52Saltwater is not good for cars.
01:54Even when they're not moving, probably even worse when you're driving in high water weather.
02:01Yeah, and you can see there are high water rescue vehicles that are deployed throughout this area.
02:06There are some rescue swimmers on standby as well.
02:09Of course, officials are telling us they're hoping that they will not be needed.
02:13Most of the water rescues that happen during storms like this are preventable.
02:18In many cases, it's people out driving, going around barricades when they shouldn't be.
02:22So again, guys, officials here tell us that they are prepared along the Jersey Shore.
02:26They have those high water rescue vehicles ready.
02:28They have the swimmers and the train crews ready to go.
02:31Very hopeful that they're not going to need them.
02:33But again, they say the clock is ticking.
02:35Only a few more hours until that big high tide this afternoon.
02:38Get those vehicles to higher ground.
02:40And they're telling people, if you live in one of those flood-prone areas and you do not feel comfortable,
02:44now is the time to get out before that storm pushes even more water in.
02:49All right, Bill Waddell live in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
02:51Less wind, but that prolonged northeasterly flow causing the high tide.
02:57It's around 1.30 this afternoon.
02:59I'll show you that coming up.
03:01It's pretty impressive what's coming.
03:03And as Bill said, a little dangerous.
