Hurricane in Western Atlantic

AccuWeather's Geoff Cornish shares the latest updates with Hurricane Humberto.

00:00There's a lot of traffic in the Western Atlantic this Sunday as powerhouse, recently Category 5 hurricane, now a 4, Umberto, is out there.

00:09Far from land, thankfully. It did become a Category 5 storm on Saturday.

00:13A Category 4 storm still strong, very strong this Sunday, is staying far from land.

00:18It will sideswipe west of Bermuda later this week, really on Tuesday, most likely.

00:24Meanwhile, our eye is really drawn to the Tropical Depression 9 drifting north through the Bahamas very slowly this Sunday.

00:36It's been slow to organize with some wind shear on the north side of this storm system.

00:40And because it is such a slowly evolving storm, it is still being moved north by some steering influences.

00:46But by the time it gets to a point due east of, say, Jacksonville, Florida, that south-to-north push is going to cease.

00:53And ultimately, that upper-level low that's been drawing it north over the southeastern U.S. will begin to weaken.

00:59And some of the stronger steering influences will actually come from Umberto off to the east.

01:04Umberto is going to interact with this storm with somewhat of a quasi-Fujiwara influence,

01:10as we talk about the Fujiwara effect with two storms when they're relatively close to one another.

01:14They can interact with one another.

01:16Umberto is going to help inflict more west-to-east movement on future Imelda.

01:23And we expect that Imelda will be moving out to sea.

01:26So we'll still see some heavy rain in the eastern Carolinas.

01:29We can see four or more inches near Myrtle Beach and far southern North Carolina as well.

01:33But we're not expecting a direct landfall in the U.S.
