A tropical wind and rainstorm brought rough surf and an exceptionally high tide to the Atlantic City area, leading to water rescues and road closures.

00:03With a storm moving up the coast was a recipe for trouble down at the Jersey Shore.
00:09We're hopeful that we'd rather be prepared than not be prepared and regret the alternative.
00:15Beach replenishment projects that took weeks of work washed away in a matter of hours.
00:20Pretty rough. It's kind of sad. They spent all that money and it's all gone.
00:26The streets along inlets and back bays in Atlantic City went underwater at high tide.
00:33If it's too much salt water, your car is going to be wrecked.
00:36Salt water is not good for cars.
00:39Several miles up the road, the storm pushed a lot of water into the bays and inlets here in Egg Harbor Township.
00:46A lot of water spilled right over this road and several feet of water ended up inside those motel rooms.
00:52The call for help started with a man who could not get to his dog inside a flooded room.
01:00Rescue crews ended up helping Princess and five people get to safety.
01:05If there's an electrical issue when we get into the water or if there's a loose manhole and someone takes a fall, then we put ourselves at risk.
01:15They're trained in the water rescue. They have the equipment.
01:18Unfortunately, it worked out because there were other people that needed to be rescued.
01:21I want to say a huge thank you and I appreciate them so much and they're really great for what they're doing.
01:27Now, it's time for the cleanup and the surveys to determine how much of the beach was washed away.
01:34That's always tough. I mean, we know where we are.
01:37We are on the barrier islands and we know that it comes with the territories.
