00:00Screen Factory may have given the bedside treatment to this Carpenter Classic, but did they flatline on the features?
00:05Here's your spooky spot on the new 4K Halloween II Steelbook Edition, Amazon Exclusive.
00:30Speaking of classics, I see we're being joined right now by The Haunting Candle.
00:33This just dropped, in fact, actually on Amazon's site, Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, pick your preference, on September 30th, 2025.
00:40Just recently, in fact, actually, we looked at the 78 Classic of Halloween, also which was a Steelbook, also as an exclusive to Amazon.
00:48Now, again, this one has already been available. It's listed still on their site.
00:51This one just dropped September 30th, and then they're planning to release the Halloween 3, which I'm kind of a little disappointed about.
00:57They're releasing it near the end of October.
00:58I would have really preferred if they had released it earlier into October, like the first week or so,
01:03but you're going to have to wait, I think, a couple of weeks after that before they actually drop that.
01:06The Halloween 2, though, we're going to be going and opening this all up and kind of discussing some of the features
01:11and see really whether it was worth the upgrade or not.
01:13I will say one thing, though, speaking about upgrades, having then already looked at the 1978 Classic,
01:19I ended up watching the film after I did the review of it, and I've got to say, the 4K transfer of the original negative was fantastic.
01:25Some of the darker scenes that really did plague this film and any of the earlier releases of Halloween were greatly improved.
01:31The one scene that did stand out the most to me was the scene when Annie is driving Laurie to their respective houses just before they're ready to babysit,
01:38and they sort of have a dialogue back and forth about Ben Tramer inside the station wagon.
01:42That whole scene doesn't also help, too, that you've got the sun setting in the front, but that whole scene generally plays quite dark.
01:48With the 4K transfer of this, I've got to say, the whole entire scene was super clear, to the point, in fact, where you could actually see their lips moving.
01:55You could actually see what they were doing inside the station wagon.
01:59I did also offer some little commentary as to really what I thought about the case.
02:03The case does seem a little kind of confusing, really, the fact that you have the escaping Michael on the top of the station wagon at the very beginning of the film,
02:08and then you have, though, his mask on the side, but then on the back, though, you have the Myers house.
02:14I thought that, really, this would have been the better thing to be on the front of the cover,
02:17and then maybe use not the station wagon, but something different on the back of the cover.
02:21Maybe him laying on the grass or something like that at the very end of the film.
02:25Still, though, you've got yourself both the Blu-ray and the 4K, so if you don't happen to have yourself a 4K player just yet,
02:30you can still benefit from having the Blu-ray included as well.
02:34So that's the Blu-ray or the 4K edition of the 1978 Halloween film.
02:39We'll kind of put that off to the side.
02:40We're going to be opening this one all up.
02:41Now, I have a couple of releases of Halloween 2.
02:44I have the one that's part of the box set, the Halloween 2 Scream Factory box set.
02:48And then prior to that, actually, I have this one.
02:50At one point, I had thought about getting rid of this one, and I'm kind of glad that I didn't.
02:55There's some charm to be said for, like, the older artwork.
02:57I know I generally don't like the artwork on some of these slipcovers.
03:00I think it kind of takes a little bit away from it.
03:01But I like this one, and this one worked really well.
03:04And it's really one that I was always going to when it came to watching Halloween.
03:08So I didn't really feel the need like I wanted to get rid of this.
03:10I will say one thing, though, about the 4K of Halloween 2.
03:14Most of the features I'll tell you right now are already on both these releases.
03:17There's not really much other than the 4K transfers that are all that different.
03:22And we'll kind of do the comparisons back and forth.
03:23There's not really much on here that wasn't already on both of these releases.
03:27I'm not even just talking about the box set Halloween 2.
03:30Even on this one, you'll see that if you look at the two, there's really a lot of matched-up features and documentaries.
03:37They're exactly the same.
03:39We're going to also open this up as well.
03:40I can already tell you there's somewhat of a questionable cover.
03:42I don't really know why they chose the cover that they did.
03:45But before we actually kind of get down to talking about all those things, carefully, carefully, carefully, just got myself my knife, my cutchings.
03:51We're going to cut away the wrap and we're going to open this up.
03:54Now, we already kind of established in the past that this isn't so much.
03:57Well, again, let me just bring back in the Halloween, the Halloween 1978.
04:02And then we've got Halloween 2.
04:04This looks really less like a window.
04:05I guess it's supposed to be maybe the window of the hospital.
04:09This one at least gave more of the idea that it's a window because it had the top of the pane.
04:13But this one looks a little less than that.
04:15It does look a little strangely bordered.
04:17Of course, you've got yourself the J card.
04:18We'll kind of put it off to the side.
04:19We'll kind of go back to looking at the J card.
04:22I can tell you one thing right now that's bothering me about the front of this cover.
04:25And anybody looking at this right now, can you let me know?
04:29Let me know what you think is a little off about this.
04:31Now, we're going to not spend a whole lot of time waiting and waiting for this.
04:35But I'll tell you right now, if this is the scene where the car crashes into Ben Tramer
04:39and smashes into the side of the van, why is then the silhouette of Michael Myers walking
04:44away from the fiery inferno?
04:46We're sort of planting the idea that that was Michael Myers that was in the crash when
04:50it really wasn't.
04:51Now, what's interesting, though, did you know, actually, Dick Warlock was the one that was
04:55actually driving the police car when it smashed into Ben Tramer.
04:57So even though he's not really the one, Michael Myers isn't the one that gets killed, Michael
05:02Myers really is responsible for Ben Tramer's downfall.
05:05But it's really strange, though, looking at it.
05:08It also kind of looks a little bit like the silhouette from Halloween 4's Michael Myers.
05:12But weird, though, that they chose to have this scene.
05:15And because that's the death of Ben Tramer, and yet of all the places that they put Michael
05:19Myers, like if you had looked at this now, here's the back of the cover.
05:22So, of course, we already have ourselves the hospital scene.
05:26This could have easily been the hallway, the hallway right here where Michael Myers is walking
05:30out after Loomis lights his lighter.
05:32You know, it's time, Michael.
05:34Then you could have at least caught the idea of Michael Myers being engulfed in flames and
05:39walking through the corridors.
05:40But having it, though, the scene where Ben Tramer gets killed, if that's the case right
05:44here, it makes no sense at all that they include Michael Myers down below.
05:48So, still like the original 1978 film, you got yourself the half mask.
05:53So, like the half mask for the 78 was on one side.
05:55And, of course, Nick Castle's mask was then on the other side.
05:59And then it had, down below here, they only had like half the mask.
06:02One thing I don't really like about this release of it is, yes, you have the half mask, the
06:05bleeding eyes.
06:06This side, though, you have the bleeding eyes.
06:08I don't know if I would have done the bleeding eyes on the one side.
06:11I probably would have kept the mask clean on this and had the bleeding eyes on the other.
06:15But like with the other one, though, you just open them both up and you got yourself both
06:19the double mask or the two-sided mask.
06:22I don't know, again, why they chose to do this.
06:24This is one thing that's kind of eating me up a little bit, is that if you look at the
06:27spines, let's put the spines the right way.
06:29So, we've got Halloween 1, we've got Halloween 2.
06:32Halloween 1 only had half of Michael Myers' face.
06:35Yet, for Halloween 2, they've got the entire face.
06:38Could we not have just agreed to have one or the other?
06:40Like, why would they have not had either a full mask on one or a half mask on the other?
06:45Because, again, like looking at this, this is driving me crazy, the fact that it's not
06:49the exact same portrait or the same image of the mask.
06:54Anyways, let's put that off to the side.
06:55So, like the front is sort of, again, questionable.
06:58Okay, now I can kind of see more of the meshing of the picture, of the window there from the
07:02Halloween Haddonfield Hospital.
07:05I'm having a hard time.
07:06I just keep looking at this and thinking, why are we using the death of Ben Tramer to
07:10then show Michael Myers walking away from the accident?
07:14It makes no sense to me whatsoever.
07:15Both of them, by the way, do have the gold font.
07:17The font are metallic.
07:18So, you've got Halloween 2 on 1, 1978 has just Halloween.
07:22And in the back of this, we have Lori walking towards the hospital.
07:27Again, she picks and chooses really when she's able to scream.
07:31I'm sure by now Michael has already entered into the hospital.
07:34Or actually, no, wait, no, that Loomis, Loomis and the sheriff would have been walking in
07:37and, you know, again, like, I guess Michael Myers is right over here and he's pursuing
07:40her.
07:41This is okay.
07:42I mean, again, like, I don't know about so much about this.
07:44At least the back makes a little bit more sense.
07:46If we open up the case, by the way, we have the Halloween 2 4K Ultra HD theatrical cut.
07:52And then on the other side, we've got Halloween 2 Blu-ray, the theatrical cut.
07:55And then we also have the television cut.
07:57Now, the television cut, unfortunately, is only going to be the DVD.
08:00They, I guess they have not upgraded the television cut for one reason or another.
08:04But at least, though, you have all the versions of the movie all on the case.
08:08So you don't have to worry about still keeping around the original ones.
08:11Now, to be fair, though, really, the other two Halloween releases, I know there have been
08:15a couple more as well, all really have the television cut of Halloween 2 as well.
08:19So there's not really much that you can say that this one's doing more and these ones
08:22aren't already doing.
08:24You've got the J card.
08:25Of course, the J card's going to only just really sit on the top.
08:27I really kind of feel, though, like I know a lot of people like the idea that there's
08:30a clean image on the back and that they don't feel the need to add all the additional features.
08:35If you can't do that, I mean, it really keeps, it makes things hard to keep the J card on
08:39top of the case.
08:41I always try to do my best to put this on my shelf like this.
08:43But I really feel like feature card like this should also be sitting inside the case.
08:47So at any given point, you can also look and see exactly what features are on the movie.
08:52Speaking of features, though, both the features here, again, we've got three different discs.
08:56So disc one is the 4K UHD theatrical cut, which is the 4K scan from the original camera
09:01negative approved by cinematographer Dean Cundey.
09:05I may have even said in 1978 when we did the unboxing of this one, I may have called him
09:09Cuddly.
09:10It's not Cuddly.
09:11It's Cundey.
09:12Presented in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
09:15Audio commentary with director Rick Rosenthal and actor Leo Rossi.
09:20We also got audio commentary with stunt coordinator Dick Warlock.
09:22Disc two is the Blu-ray theatrical cut, which again has the 4K scan from the original camera
09:28negative approved by Dean Cundey, presented in Dolby Atmos.
09:32Audio commentary with Rick Rosenthal and again, Leo Rossi.
09:35Audio commentary with Dick Warlock.
09:38The Nightmare Isn't Over.
09:39So again, like we're kind of now getting into documentaries.
09:41Nightmare Isn't Over, the making of Halloween 2, featuring Rick Rosenthal, Dick Warlock,
09:45composer Alan Haworth, Dean Cundey, actors Lance Guest, Leo Rossi, and more.
09:52Horrors Hollowed Grounds, revisiting the original shooting locations.
09:55Deleted scenes with audio, optional audio commentary with Rick Rosenthal.
10:00Alternate ending with optional commentary with Rick Rosenthal.
10:03Still gallery, theatrical trailer, TV, and radio spots.
10:07Then we've got disc three, the DVD television cut.
10:10The television cut in standard definition, film script in a DVD ROM.
10:15So again, like that just seems to be a borrowed over theatrical cut or the television cut
10:19from already the previous release that we've gotten before.
10:21So if we were to look at the original Screen Factory deluxe release of Halloween 2,
10:25and we look at the back for the features, all the features are exactly the same.
10:30Horrors Hollowed Grounds were still there before.
10:33All the audio commentaries are also still there.
10:35The Nightmare Isn't Over, the making of Halloween 2 is also still there.
10:38There's nothing on this one that I can find on the 4K.
10:42So if you already have like this version, other than just the 4K transfer,
10:46and I will say like the 4K transfer has so far been worth it for me.
10:50I'm glad that I did get myself the Steelbook because the 4K transfer looks fantastic.
10:54But if you're looking for anything else above that, you're not going to find anything else.
10:58Even then when you look at the box set of Halloween 2, you've still got the Nightmare Isn't Over.
11:02You've got the theatrical version and the television cut.
11:04So that's still there.
11:06All the audio commentaries are there.
11:07Horrors Hollowed Grounds is also still there.
11:10And it also has the alternate ending with optional audio commentary with director Rick Rosenthal.
11:15Still has the same still gallery.
11:16Still has the theatrical trailer, TV, and radio spots.
11:19So like again, there's nothing at all that's different other than just having this being the benefit of being a 4K transfer.
11:25But with being a 4K transfer, it's still I feel the worth the price.
11:29Now with these, I'm going to put the card to the side here.
11:32Looking though at these, I mean I don't really get behind completely Steelbooks.
11:36I like Steelbooks for some certain cases.
11:38I will say like both of these look considerably better than the Scream Factory's ones that they had released before.
11:42Now we talked, I talked a little bit about that when we looked at this case release.
11:46Scream Factory had at one point done the 4Ks and all of them basically are just Michael Myers posing in front of something.
11:51You'd have like blowing leaves in the background.
11:53Michael Myers standing there.
11:54Halloween 5, for example, the one that I have is just Michael Myers standing there.
11:58Brand new art, but him with the scythe in his hand.
12:00These look a little bit more interesting on the eye.
12:02I mean again, like this one gets a little more lost.
12:04The idea that this is supposed to look like a window.
12:06I know again, like there's a little bit of meshing there.
12:08You can kind of see.
12:09But I mean again, like the case, it's kind of questionable really that they chose the front covers the way they did.
12:14That you have Michael Myers escaping from the sanitarium at the very beginning of the film.
12:18But more strangely though, that they chose the death of Ben Tramer to feature Michael Myers walking from the flames.
12:24When that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
12:27What do you guys though think of these?
12:28Let me know down below in the comment section.
12:29The fact that really then we already have all the features.
12:32We already have like all the bonus features and stuff on the previous Halloween 2 sets.
12:37Do you feel at all there's still the need to get yourself the steelbook?
12:40Now again, like there's the benefit of the brand new art.
12:42There clearly is the biggest benefit of having this being a 4K transfer.
12:46That's I think the most thing that I've taken away from this.
12:48Is yes, again, like while it doesn't have much new in the way of footage.
12:52And much new in the way of documentary features.
12:53What it does have at least though is the 4K transfers.
12:57And they're presented in a way that they're easier on the eye.
12:59And they're not ugly.
13:00Like the original Scream Factory 4Ks that they've released a couple years back.
13:04What do you guys think of these?
13:05Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:06Have you guys also pre-order, I guess by now, have already picked up the Halloween 2.
13:10And have you also pre-ordered the Halloween 3 steelbook Amazon exclusive.
13:15If you guys did enjoy this ghoulish video, do it a song, throw it a like.
13:18You guys want to stick around for more so?
13:20Oh, I hope so.
13:21I hope so.
13:21We're not just wrapping up.
13:22I mean, we're kind of leaving Haddonfield for right now.
13:25But there will be more spooky related videos coming your way for the rest of this Spottober.
13:28So I hope you guys are going to be coming back for that.
13:30As always, guys, thanks for watching.
13:32See you guys next time.
