00:00You think a steel case is going to keep this guy contained?
00:03Here's your spooky spot in the Halloween 4K Amazon Exclusive Steelbook Edition.
00:07I see that Myers hasn't escaped, but I see that the spooky candle has.
00:31We're going to be opening this up.
00:32I just recently ordered this over on Amazon, where right now it's an exclusive there.
00:35This is a steelbook of the original Halloween 1978 film coming released in a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray format.
00:43It's a limited edition steel case, and as it is right now, Amazon has listings not only for Halloween 1, Halloween 2, Halloween 3.
00:50Halloween 1, in fact, comes out right now, so you can get this at any given time.
00:54Halloween 2 is slated to drop in, I think, September 30th, 2025, and then exactly a month after that, they're going to be releasing Halloween 3.
01:01I don't know if they have plans yet to release any of the other films after the fact.
01:06I was definitely interested in getting myself the steel case version of Halloween, simply just because there hasn't really been a good release of steelbooks, or for that matter, 4Ks of Halloween.
01:15Sure enough, there are the ones that were released by Scream Factory, if you ask me, though.
01:18Even though I like the hard cases of these, I think the cover art is absolute garbage.
01:22And the worst thing about these is that if you don't like the look of these, every one of Scream Factory's 4K releases all have something that looks like this.
01:30Michael Myers basically just posing with a background behind him.
01:33I mean, again, like, I do like the idea that they have the hard case, but truth be told, though, a lot of times I don't even have, I only have, like, maybe two or three of these.
01:40I think I have Halloween 3, Halloween 5.
01:42I have since swapped that out, and I got actually one of the slip covers from VHS Slips.
01:49So I currently have that usually as the display for my Halloween 5.
01:52I, again, only really picked up Halloween 5, the 4K, just because it had that cutout scene with Dr. Death.
01:58Anyways, that's Halloween 5.
02:00We're not going to really be talking about Halloween 5, so we're just going to move that all out of the way.
02:03Going, though, back to the 4K release of this, I did already have the Blu-ray of Halloween.
02:08This was part of the Scream Factory box set.
02:10And prior to that, I also have the DVD Extended Edition.
02:14It has the extra additional 12 minutes of footage shot for television.
02:17I have a couple of other DVDs, but over the years, I kind of realized,
02:20why was I keeping all these extra DVDs when I wasn't really watching them?
02:24I know there's a collector certainly out there, and I'm not going to fault those that do,
02:26that collect every version, every release of a movie.
02:29And that was me at one point.
02:30I had probably, like, five or six different versions of the 1978 Halloween.
02:34But after a while, I kind of thought to myself, let's just kind of trim the fat, so to speak.
02:39Get rid of the ones that we don't really necessarily need, or I know I'm never going to watch.
02:42Kind of keep the ones I want to watch.
02:44So, again, I keep, like, again, like the Spectral Edition, the Extended Edition that has the extra 12 minutes of footage.
02:48And then, basically, my go-to has always really been the Screen Factory box set that had the Blu-ray.
02:54So, what's going to be different, really, between these two?
02:56Well, first of all, you're going to get yourself a 4K Ultra HD of Halloween 1978 film.
03:00You're also, of course, going to get yourself the Blu-ray as well.
03:03I wouldn't necessarily say, well, if I'm planning to get this, I don't necessarily need to get this.
03:07Because there are some still features on this release, the Blu-ray, that haven't made their way onto the 4K.
03:13And we're going to kind of talk about that in a second.
03:15I'm not going to talk about the picture quality, because I haven't yet watched the movie.
03:17Anyway, I've just ordered this.
03:19It just arrived.
03:21We're going to open this up.
03:22Don't know why I'm flailing my hands as much as I am.
03:24Let's grab our knife off to the side here at McCutcheon's.
03:27We're going to carefully, carefully cut the plastic on the side.
03:30And let's open this guy up.
03:31We'll let the boogeyman out.
03:34The price for this, by the way, at least here in Canada, was $49.99.
03:39So for $49.99, at least I could say to myself, well, I'm getting both the 4K Ultra HD and I'm getting the Blu-ray.
03:45If you don't have a 4K player, then you can still at least rely on the Blu-ray as well.
03:48Unless it's one disc.
03:50And I don't think it's one disc.
03:51I think it's actually two.
03:53It does have, of course, the J slip, the J cover.
03:55That just slides off the back.
03:57This actually does have an adhesive, I notice now, here on the top.
04:01So that kind of does do a good job of keeping the J cover still on the movie itself.
04:07Here's what the back of it, by the way, looks like.
04:08Let's just peel this off.
04:11Now, I'm kind of of two minds for this.
04:13With the 4K of Halloween, you get extra plastic.
04:16That's not what I was going to say.
04:18Here you get the benefit, though, of a front and a back of the steel casing.
04:21Basically, we'll open it up and I'll do it in a second.
04:23And you'll see Michael Myers' face in full form.
04:27I kind of think, though, when it comes to steel cases, and I do this a lot,
04:30the J covers, I tend to usually keep with them because it has all the features on the back.
04:35I am one that really would have preferred to have all the features kind of printed on the back of the case
04:41so that you don't always need to keep this.
04:43Because I like to be able to look at the back of the movie and say,
04:45OK, these are the features I want to watch after I've seen the film.
04:48When you remove something like this, or if you're one that even discards these,
04:51you're not going to know what's the features until you actually play the film.
04:55The features, by the way, we'll kind of talk more about in a second.
04:58I show you, by the way, I did want to show you guys the front and the back of this.
05:02Initially, I didn't like the front cover.
05:04By the way, it was kind of bordered like this.
05:06The more that I look at this, though, it does look like it's an actual window.
05:09I don't know if it's due to this window.
05:11Michael spent all his time as a kid looking out his sister's window.
05:14How stupid was that?
05:15But the more now, like, because the J cover, again, let's just go grab it.
05:20Because the J cover essentially covered over that, I looked at that and I thought,
05:24that's a weird, awkward way of bordering off the movie.
05:27Why wouldn't they have just taken the whole image and stretched it out to fit the edges?
05:31But now, though, that I take the J cover off, I see, though, that that's supposed to, I guess, be the window.
05:37Am I also seeing, though, that kind of the way that the clouds are done here in the back,
05:40it does actually kind of look like a figure's face.
05:43I don't know if it's actually supposed to be the shape.
05:45Maybe it's supposed to be Sam Loomis.
05:46Maybe it's supposed to be Sam Loomis with the fried egg on his face.
05:49Oh, wait, no, that's Halloween 4.
05:51It's a weird choosing for what they've actually done here.
05:53I mean, kind of the way that they've designed this.
05:57I mean, obviously, this, I think this would have looked better as being the front of the cover,
06:00because when I tend to think of Halloween, I think of, obviously, the Myers house.
06:04This takes us, of course, to the very beginning of the movie,
06:06when Loomis has to go and retrieve Michael Myers.
06:08And then, of course, he jumps on top of the station wagon, of course,
06:12while the nurse is sitting inside.
06:15It's just odd that, I guess, because they wanted to do this as, like, the beginning of the movie.
06:19This is kind of where everything kind of sets the scene,
06:21and where Michael escapes, and somebody learns how to drive.
06:24Somebody, you know, somebody must have taught him.
06:26And then, of course, this would be kind of more the end of the movie,
06:28where it's got the Myers house.
06:29So this is where he leaves.
06:30This is where he goes to.
06:31And if you connect the two, it's a straight line.
06:35Stop that.
06:36So, again, we've got ourselves the windows.
06:37I do really like the look of that.
06:39I think the artwork looks good, too.
06:41With Halloween 3, it's also, sorry, Halloween 2,
06:44it's also going to have Michael Myers' face.
06:46And then it's going to have, I think, the fire in the background,
06:48and Michael Myers walking through that.
06:50And then the Halloween 3, what they're doing for the Halloween 3,
06:53is it's going to be, like, the skull mask.
06:55And it's going to have, like, the robots,
06:57maybe Dick Warlock, standing in the front.
06:58So, again, I really like the look of these cases.
07:00A good, hard, you know, quality steel case.
07:03If you open, though, both sides, you can see there's Michael Myers' face.
07:09I like that.
07:10I really do like that.
07:11And, no, again, looking at the timeline,
07:13I think the timeline makes sense, having this being in the front.
07:15I honestly would have preferred this being the front cover, though.
07:18But that's the steel case.
07:19On the inside, though, we have ourselves two discs,
07:22so I answered my question right away.
07:25Of course, you have Michael Myers there,
07:26the shape in the background, the castle.
07:28On the front, you've got yourself the first disc,
07:31being 4K Ultra HD.
07:33The disc, then, behind it is the original Blu-ray.
07:36So, again, you don't necessarily have to have a 4K player
07:39in order to play this.
07:40So, like, the case itself looks good.
07:42But here's the thing about the features.
07:44I'm going to put the J card back on here for a second.
07:46I'm not going to read the read-up.
07:48I'm sure everybody now knows the backstory of Michael Myers
07:50and what takes place with the shape in the 1978 film.
07:53But I did want to compare it, though,
07:55to the Blu-ray that we got released here by Scream Factory.
07:59Thinking, though, that it was going to be exactly the same
08:01other than this one clearly has, though,
08:03a 4K scan from the original camera negative.
08:05I realized, though, looking at the two,
08:07there are some features that were still on the Screen Factory release
08:12on Blu-ray that didn't find its way to the 4K.
08:15So, obviously, the difference is, for the main one being,
08:18is that you've got the 4K scan from the original camera negative.
08:20This one wouldn't have had it.
08:23This one also does have approved by, well, it's approved by cinematographer
08:26Dean Cudley, presented in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
08:31Audio commentary.
08:32Now, here's where sort of stuff starts blending together.
08:35The audio commentary with co-writer, director, John Carpenter,
08:38and actor Jamie Lee Curtis happens to also be on this one here as well.
08:42Audio commentary with director, well, audio with writer, director,
08:45John Carpenter, actor, Jamie Lee Curtis.
08:46I would think, though, that they're probably going to be not using
08:49brand new retrieved footage or interviews.
08:52I would imagine that they're probably just going to be using the same one
08:55that carried over from the Screen Factory release.
08:57So, again, unless I've seen this, I'll maybe do a follow-up video,
09:00or maybe I'll just talk a little bit more of this on social media.
09:03But I would think, though, for them to list the two things together,
09:06the same two features, I would think that the features are going to be
09:09exactly the same.
09:10I don't think they're coming up with anything new for the 4K format.
09:13Also, the audio commentary with Dean Cudley,
09:16editor Tommy Lee Wallace, and actor Nick Castle happens also to be
09:20on the special features for the Blu-ray release as well.
09:23The Night She Came Home featurette is also on here, too.
09:26Now, it's not here.
09:27It's in the Blu-ray format.
09:29So, The Night She Came Home is one of the features.
09:31But what is on here, though, is the Halloween Unmasked 2000,
09:35which isn't on the Blu-ray.
09:37What is on here, though, is on location 25 years later.
09:41I looked on here, and I didn't see that feature.
09:43So, that's one that has been left off on the 4K that is still on the Blu-ray.
09:49The TV version, the additional footage, is still on there as well.
09:52This one doesn't have it.
09:53This one has only the TV and radio spots in the theatrical trailer.
09:57Oh, sorry.
09:57The TV version footage is on there.
09:59It's on the disc one footage.
10:01So, if I was to really, again, look at the two, you got the TV spots, the radio spots,
10:05both seem identical.
10:07Adam Rifkin on Halloween, trailers from hell, is not on this one.
10:12So, this has, like, two, three different features on here that aren't on this one.
10:16But then there are, like, the on location 25 years later, which isn't on this one at all.
10:22If those features aren't ones that you can be missing out on entirely,
10:25then you're probably not going to be disappointed by it.
10:27The runtime, by the way, on this is 91 minutes, 91 minutes on this one, 91 minutes on this one.
10:32So, there's no additional footage there.
10:34And you can even see, too, they've still got the advertisements for both Scream and a show factory,
10:39which, again, leads me to believe that they're using the exact same featurettes
10:43that were on the original format.
10:45So, again, like, if you have the two, the only real reason I would imagine to go back
10:49to watch this one again would be the on location 25 years later.
10:52And I think that's, is that the only one?
10:55I think that is the only one.
10:56Yeah, most, if not everything else, is all packed on this release.
11:01So, at least, again, like, if you didn't get the chance to get yourself the box set from Scream Factory,
11:04you could get yourself then the 4K, and it has everything covered,
11:08except for the on location 25 years later featurette.
11:12As for, though, the case design itself, I like it.
11:15I do really like it.
11:16It's a far cry, though, from really what Scream Factory was doing initially with their 4K format releases.
11:21Again, I do like the hard covers.
11:23What I don't like, though, is the artwork.
11:25I think, if anything, go back to the original poster art.
11:27If you're not going to do it, commission something a little bit nicer that looks like this.
11:31This, just all of these look garbage.
11:34At one point, though, Scream Factory had a markdown sale on all their 4Ks,
11:37and I was really tempted to start kind of picking up all the original Scream Factory Halloween's on 4K,
11:43because I missed my chance on getting a couple of them.
11:45Again, I still think I have three.
11:46I know I have five, obviously, here.
11:48I would have gone back and tried to pick up the first and the second one, the fourth, the sixth again.
11:53And then, again, there was also the box set as well.
11:55I don't know, though, for the Amazon exclusives,
11:57if they are planning to do any other ones than the first, the second, and the third.
12:01The first one is out now.
12:02Again, I paid it for like $49.99 here in Canadian dollars on the Amazon.ca app.
12:08Then there's, again, the release one of the Halloween 2 that's going to be coming out September 30th.
12:13And then at Track, another month on top of that, released October 28th for around that same price.
12:18The Halloween 3 Season of the Witch, also limited edition, is also going to be dropping over on Amazon as well.
12:23If you guys have had the chance to pick this one out, let me know down below in the comments section.
12:27Do you like the cover art?
12:28Do you think maybe this should have been maybe the cover art and this should have been...
12:32I don't know.
12:33I think this would have worked better, maybe flipped and had Michael over here.
12:36This I would have chose, I think, better to have it on the front cover.
12:40But I don't mind the electricity.
12:41I don't mind him leaping on top of the station wagon.
12:44Again, considering that this is the beginning of the movie and then this is basically where he needs to get to.
12:48This is where he leaves from.
12:49This is where he's going to.
12:51The steel case, again, like, looks really good.
12:53Now that I know it's a window, it looks a little bit better.
12:55Before having the card on top of that, I thought to myself,
12:58why would they have stupidly bordered off the movie?
13:01But now that I realize it's a window that Michael always looked out of,
13:04speaking of things that are stupid, I don't think it bothers me as much.
13:07Have you guys had the chance to pick this one up?
13:09Let me know down below in the comments section.
13:11And also, will you be also pre-ordering Halloween 2 and Halloween 3?
13:14Again, Amazon exclusives.
13:16If you guys did enjoy this spookerific review, do it a song, throw it a like.
13:20You guys want to stick around for more so?
13:21I hope so.
13:23Obviously, this is just the beginning of our spooky spot season for 2025.
13:27There's going to be a lot more videos, spookerific reviews coming your way.
13:30So I hope you guys are going to be coming back for that.
13:32As always, thanks for watching.
13:34See you guys next time.
