12 October - National Morning Forecast Presented by Tom Morgan
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Some of us are waking up to scenes like these this morning.
00:04Quite a bit of fog around first thing today across the Midlands, parts of Wales and Northern England for example.
00:09And that fog is going to be quite stubborn too clear, perhaps taking the vast majority of the morning too clear away.
00:14So quite poor visibility is on the road first thing this morning.
00:17Otherwise, there are a mixture of cloud and sunny spells.
00:20And gradually through the course of the day, the sunshine will become more widespread.
00:24So a sunnier day for many compared to yesterday.
00:27There will be some cloud though persisting in some areas, eastern parts of England for example.
00:31Northern Ireland probably staying fairly cloudy as well for much of the afternoon.
00:35And certainly across northern Scotland, much like yesterday, we'll continue to see a risk of some quite murky conditions here.
00:41Some hill fog and outbreaks of light rain and drizzle in places too.
00:45But where we do see that sunshine break through earlier in the day and persist through the afternoon,
00:50well it will feel pleasant for October.
00:51Highs of 16, perhaps as high as 18 degrees Celsius in the south,
00:55which is slightly above average for the middle part of October.
00:58But obviously where the fog and the cloud is a bit more persistent well into the afternoon,
01:03then potentially temperature is not getting much above 14 or 15 degrees Celsius.
01:08Through this evening, and generally speaking, we'll start to see more in a way of cloud
01:12redeveloping across more eastern regions of England.
01:15That cloud will spread its way westwards into parts of Wales as we go into the early hours of Monday morning.
01:20So by the end of the night, the clearest skies generally fall western parts of Wales,
01:24northwest England and across parts of Scotland.
01:27So it's here where we like to see the temperatures dropping their lowest tonight.
01:31So temperatures perhaps down to low single figures in some rural areas
01:35and even cold enough for a touch of frost for some prone spots.
01:39But otherwise, the cloud will act like a blanket.
01:41So preventing temperatures from falling away too far tonight.
01:44Many towns and cities in the south and the east holding up at around 9 to 11 degrees Celsius.
01:49And there won't generally be too much in the way of fog tonight.
01:53But where the skies are clearest towards the north and the west,
01:56certainly there could well be a few isolated fog patches to begin the day on Monday morning.
02:01And once again, that will take its time to clear,
02:04potentially lasting until lunchtime in some spots.
02:07For example, the central belt of Scotland.
02:09But otherwise, it will be northern parts of the UK that fare best for sunshine on Monday.
02:13Plenty of sunshine for many parts of Scotland and northern England.
02:17And probably a brighter day for Northern Ireland as well.
02:20But for many parts of England and Wales, holding on to quite gloomy conditions.
02:24And that cloud might even be thick enough on Monday just to give the odd light shower
02:28or spittable spot of light rain or drizzle in the breeze.
02:31Therefore, in the south, it will probably not feel quite as pleasant as it will do on Sunday.
02:36Temperatures perhaps a degree or so lower and feeling a little bit cooler.
02:39But across many parts of Scotland, where the sunshine is out,
02:42it won't feel too bad with the wind staying light.
02:46So as we go into Tuesday and the rest of the week,
02:49we'll like to see conditions staying very similar indeed.
02:52So high pressure keeping it generally dry for the vast majority.
02:55There will be quite gloomy conditions at times.
02:58So fairly extensive low cloud coming in from the North Sea.
03:01But there will also be some sunshine in places,
03:03perhaps most likely for western and northern parts of the UK.
03:07And where that sunshine is through the day and the clear skies persist overnight,
03:11we could also see one or two fog patches too.
