03 August - National weather forecast presented by Tom Morgan.
Transcript
00:00Good morning. After a dry start to the weekend, Sunday does promise to be somewhat more changeable
00:05and there will be some rain for some of us as well. It's all courtesy of this weather front here
00:09that's going to be moving slowly south-eastwards across the UK through the day on Sunday.
00:13But then we turn our attention to Storm Floris. Already quite a deep area of low pressure,
00:17but as it moves towards the northern side of the jet stream, it will undergo quite a rapid
00:21deepening process through the course of tonight and into Monday. So becoming an unseasonally
00:25deep area of low pressure for the time of year and bringing some disruptive winds for some of us
00:29on Monday. But back to this morning and it's a nice bright start across many south-eastern parts
00:34of the UK. Some early morning sunshine here. Otherwise though, quite a bit of clouds. So
00:38outbreaks of rain and drizzle pushing their way south-eastwards across England and Wales
00:41through the course of this afternoon. Following that though, much brighter skies for Scotland,
00:46Northern Ireland and Northern England. Plenty of sunny spells developing here. A few showers,
00:51yes, and quite breezy, but it should turn into a pleasantly warm afternoon and temperatures of 20,
00:5622 degrees in places shouldn't feel too bad at all. There will just be one or two slightly heavier
01:01showers perhaps across north-east Scotland and north-east England and these may even turn
01:05locally thundery. In the south, quite a humid feeling day. So 22 to 24 degrees in places and still
01:13quite a bit of low cloud over the higher ground. Any drips and draps of rain though will clear away
01:18from the south of England as we go through the course of this evening. So for many of us,
01:21it's turning into a drier interlude with some clearer skies for a time. It's not going to last
01:27very long though. You'll notice the rain already starting to re-return across into Northern Ireland
01:32as we go towards the overnight hours and those really intense bursts shown here by the yellow
01:36and red colours indicating some really heavy rain by the morning. The winds will start to freshen as
01:42well, so turning wet and windy for Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and some other northwestern
01:46parts of the UK by the morning. Temperatures though not falling very far at all, so 16 or 17 degrees
01:53in some southwestern areas by the end of the night and a mild start to the day for all of us.
01:58So for Monday then, some really disruptive winds are potentially possible across the north of the UK.
02:04A warning already in place across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and the far north of Wales.
02:09Some heavy rain as well. Most of that rain will push through relatively quickly, but across the northwest
02:14of Scotland some more prolonged spells of rain could lead to some flooding here, so something else to
02:18keep a close eye on. Brighter skies following to Northern Ireland, parts of Wales and Northern England
02:23perhaps through the afternoon and the rain eventually arriving across the southeast, so not much in the
02:29way of rain in the far south until later in the day. Here temperatures 20 to 25 degrees on Monday, so
02:35pretty warm but not feeling that way. Still pretty windy in the south too, but the strongest winds will be
02:41across the north, and it's here where we have a yellow warning in place. So some unseasonably strong
02:46winds for many places, but especially Scotland, and it's here that we could well see some damaging
02:50winds, potentially gusts of up to 85 miles per hour in some exposed spots. That's going to lead to power
02:56interruptions as trees come down, potentially some travel disruption as well. There'll be some large
03:01waves in coastal regions, and of course the heavy rain could lead to some localised flooding as well.
03:06So it's definitely worth staying in touch with the forecast over the next few days,
03:09making sure you know which warnings are in place for your area, and following us on our social
03:13media channels. That's it from me. Bye for now.
