00:00In Peru, following the removal from office of former president Inavaluarte, José Jari
00:18Oré from the We Are Peru party, previously head of the Peruvian Congress, has been sworn in as
00:24president of the Republic. The permanent mission of Venezuela to the United Nations requested
00:33an urgent meeting due to the military escalation of the United States in the Caribbean.
00:43Countries around the world, social and human rights organizations, welcomed the agreement
00:47between Israel-resistant movement Hamas and Israel for a ceasefire and peace in the Gaza
00:52Strip.
00:58Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernandes from the Telesur Studios in Havana,
01:02Cuba. We begin with the news.
01:04Following the removal from office of former Peruvian president Inavaluarte, José Jari Oré
01:10from the We Are Peru party, previously head of the Peruvian Congress, has been sworn in
01:15as president of the Republic.
01:18Ex-president Inavaluarte was voted out of office by the Congress in the early hours
01:22of Friday. In accordance with Article 115 of the Constitution, due to the absence of by-president
01:29in Peru, the president of the Congress assumes interim leadership of the country.
01:34José Jari Oré assumed the presidency of the Republic early this Friday. After the plenary session,
01:40the Congress failed to approve the motion of censure brought against the Parliament's
01:44board of directors, which he shares. Jari becomes the third president of the current
01:50five-year term from 2021 to 2026, after Pedro Castillo and Inavaluarte.
01:56Now, let's learn about José Jari, who is currently the president of the Congress of Peru and who
02:08will assume as president of the Republic. Legislator José Enrique Jari Oré, from the
02:14Somos Peru party, was elected president of the Congress for the 2025-2026 term, after winning
02:21the election for the Executive Committee. Jari's political career has been marked by investigations,
02:26including allegations of sexual abuse, disobedience to authority, and alleged acts of corruption
02:33linked to the Budget Committee. According to Article 115 of the Constitution, if there are no
02:39vice presidents, the president of the Congress assumes interim leadership of the country. Therefore,
02:45following the removal from office of ex-president Inavaluarte, the presidency would vote to
02:50Jose Jari Oré.
02:58In other news, Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva ranks first in voting intentions
03:03in all scenarios simulated by the Genial Quest polling company, with a view to the general elections in the
03:10South American giant in October 2026. The survey, conducted between October 2nd and 5th among
03:18over 2,000 people, revealed that Lula da Silva would easily win in a second round against his all main
03:25contenders. The current president would defeat opponents such as the governor of São Paulo,
03:31Terzicio de Freitas, and former first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro. President Lula's strong electoral
03:38performance and growing popularity are driven by his stance toward the U.S. and his protection of the
03:44country's economy from Trump's tariffs and his defense of national reserve determination.
03:58Moving on to Argentina, where trade unions, families of peoples with disabilities,
04:03and retirees protested in the city of San Rafael de Mendoza in rejection of President Javier
04:08Miller's visit. The government ordered a security operation involving 700 officials with the aim of
04:15preventing the protests from reaching the event venue. During the event, there were moments of tensions
04:21between the protesters and the security forces, with pushing and verbal exchanges with supporters of
04:27the president, resulting in the arrest of the former provincial deputy for the Frente de Todos party,
04:34Bruno Szczeskin, and activists Maximiliano Londero and Sebastián Encina, for putting up a poster
04:41criticizing the Argentine leader.
04:50In other news in Chile, on Thursday began the eviction of the Dignitat Camp, located in a suburban
04:56community of the capital Santiago. These land grabs occurred after the October 2009 revolt,
05:02where nearly 200 families, both Chileans and migrants, live. The country is experiencing a
05:08housing deficit that exceeds one million homes and has 1,428 camps, the highest numbers since 1999.
05:18The operation does not provide a temporary solution for everybody, so many will end up on the streets.
05:24Furthermore, despite the residents' willingness to engage in dialogue, late in the afternoon the police
05:29repressed them at the place where they were supposed to be for work and did not comply with the demolition limits.
05:37This situation will continue evolving in the coming days, with more than 400 eviction orders planned.
05:42Today we have placed a priority on a risk area that is defined by 30 meters from the edge of the riverbank
05:57inward, and the purpose of this is to protect people from possible flooding. In addition, the way in which the
06:05houses were configured, the houses was creating a fire hazard, which is why we have defined this street,
06:11and then we are going to sit down and talk to the families to try to discuss their rights.
06:17The World Food Programme issued a dramatic alert to the international community about the imminent
06:23risk of famine in Haiti. Currently 5.7 million people, more than half of the country's total population,
06:30are facing critical levels of food insecurity, of which 2.1 million are at the worst serious level,
06:36classified as an emergency. Reports indicate that armed groups now control nearly 90% of the country,
06:43preventing the population from acquiring food and pushing the most vulnerable families directly into
06:49famine. This forces many to reduce their meals and consume very low-quality products, causing malnutrition
06:56rates to skyrocket. The violence has also led to the displacement of 1.3 million people, with more than
07:03than half of those displaced being children, further aggravating child malnutrition rates.
07:17In other news, the Panamanian Parliament approved Bill 176, which creates the National
07:22Public Register of Sex Offenders, amending Law 244 of 2021. The project was unanimously approved with 42 votes
07:32during the third debate and seeks to make the official registry of sexual offenders public,
07:37thus exercing situational crime prevention. According to the plenary, this system must contain all
07:44detailed information on persons committed or serving sentences for crimes against sexual freedom and
07:49integrity, child trafficking and human trafficking for sexual exploitation. The legislative initiative seeks to
07:57improve the prevention of sexual crimes in the country, as well as to empower families and communities
08:02with a publicly accessible information network on the internet.

08:45Welcome back! Countries around the world, social and human rights organizations welcome the agreement
09:06between the resistance movement Hamas and Israel for ceasefire and peace in the Gaza Strip.
09:12After three days of negotiations in Egypt, Israel and Hamas agreed to sign and implement a peace plan
09:17for the Gaza Strip, an agreement reached through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States.
09:24In this regard, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his hopes for a political and permanent
09:31solution to end the Israeli occupation and establish a Palestinian state. A meeting to discuss the approval
09:37of the ceasefire deal is ongoing at the Israeli security cabinet.
09:49Meanwhile, Palestinians have spoken on about the agreement seeking peace in the Gaza Strip
09:55and expressed their hope for an end to the genocide and suffering for themselves and their families.
10:00Thank God! Today we triumphed, and we are very happy. We will return to Gaza and kiss its soil. We will pray
10:10to thank God, and, God willing, the wars will not return again.
10:13First, thank God. We have been displaced for two years. Today we are full of happiness and no one
10:24in the world is happier than us. We have been suffering for two years. Two years of displacement,
10:29pain and suffering. We have experienced all kinds of suffering during those three years. Thank God.
10:41Today God has put an end to that suffering. We remain firm and ask God to end the war. But what I fear is
10:47that the Jews may violate the truce at any moment. In the previous truce and agreement, the occupation
10:59violated the truce and the agreement. Therefore, we hope that the occupation will not violate the truce
11:04and will respect it. This is what we want, and we want to live like the rest of the peoples of the world.
11:17I thank all the countries that supported us and helped us achieve the ceasefire, and we hope that
11:26it will continue. Today we are very happy, and from now on we will not think about the fact that a brother,
11:34relative, or family member has been martyred. Praise be to God, and I thank all the countries that
11:41supported us and helped us achieve a ceasefire. God willing, things will improve, and Gaza will be more
11:49beautiful than before, and it will be rebuilt. Despite the displacement, suffering, and pain we have
11:56experienced, we have remained strong. I ask countries to work to prevent the truce from failing, as happened with
12:03the first and second truces, and I ask God that the war will not return, because we are very tired.
12:11Gaza was once very beautiful, more beautiful than all the Arab countries. Gaza continues to be so,
12:19and it will be rebuilt.
12:26The end of this war today means the end of the spilling of innocent blood, and thank God, my feeling
12:33is one of indescribable joy. I am glad that the massacres have stopped, as they were occurring every
12:39hour in the Gaza Strip. Here, at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Bala, we were receiving the
12:47martyrs of the massacres every hour. We say that, from now on, all this must stop.
12:54For his part, the former president of the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement,
13:03Hamas, in the Gaza Strip, and head of the negotiation delegation, Khalid Al-Ayah, spoke about the
13:10Palestinian people's resistance and thanked supporters in the context of the confirmation
13:14of the first phase of the peace plan. Al-Ayah highlighted the Palestinian people's steadfast
13:21resistance to the hostilities and massacres perpetrated by the Israeli army. On the anniversary
13:26of the start of the latest Israeli escalation against Palestine, the leader of the resistance
13:31movement paid tribute to its more-tiered leaders and fighters. The head of the movement said,
13:37Hamas is serious about President Trump's peace plans and offered a response that serves the
13:43Palestinian people. He thanked the Middle East for its continued support for the Palestinian people
13:48and those who advocate for the Palestinian cause.
13:55Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that it supports any initiative that puts an end to
14:00the Israeli genocide in Gaza and demands the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and the
14:06withdrawal of the occupying forces. The Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized in a statement that
14:13the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported all actions and initiatives aimed at stopping the
14:18genocide, withdrawing of the occupying forces, allowing humanitarian aid to enter free Palestinian
14:25prisoners and recognize the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, it continued,
14:31defender of the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian people in the struggle to refer the right to
14:36self-determination. The note emphasized that, over the last two years, the Persian country has used
14:42all its diplomatic resources, especially at the regional level, in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
14:49and in the United Nations, to pressure Israel and its allies to stop the genocide and achieve the
14:54withdrawal of the occupiers from Gaza.
