00:00With 54.5% of votes, Rodrigo Paz has been elected the new President of Bolivia, defeating Jorge
00:18Duto Quiroga in the second round of general elections. In Cuba, the Grandma Rebelde Festival
00:27concluded this Sunday in Havana, where delegations from over 30 countries discussed the role
00:32of leftist journalism in the world today. After killing at least 44 people in the past
00:4124 hours, Israeli authorities announced they will once again abide by the ceasefire in Gaza.
00:46Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sofia Fernández from the Telesur Studios in Havana,
00:57Cuba. We begin with the news. In Bolivia, the candidate of the Christian Democratic Party,
01:02Rodrigo Paz, was elected President according to official data from the preliminary results system
01:08QueenCount. The Supreme Electoral Call to Bolivia announced the preliminary official result of the
01:14QueenCount of Votes that declared Rodrigo Paz Pereira as the winner of the second presidential round,
01:20with 54.61% of the valid votes, while the far-right candidate Jorge Duto Quiroga of the Free Alliance
01:30Party obtained 45.39% of the votes. The electoral body assured that this preliminary official result
01:38is after the process of 97% of the votes. In that sense, the elected president will take off
01:44his office on November 8th. In his first remarks as Bolivia's president-elect, Rodrigo Paz reaffirmed
01:56that his government will have a new geopolitical alignment, after expressing his gratitude to
02:01regional right-wing governments, such as those of Ecuador, Panama and Paraguay, for recognizing his electoral victory.
02:08I would like to thank the president of Panama, who has already called us. I would like to thank the
02:24president of Paraguay, I would like to thank the president of Uruguay, the president of Ecuador and the
02:34president of Peru. And now, after being with you, we will have another number of presidents.
02:42Bolivia is recovering its international position step by step.
02:49We lost geopolitically and geoeconomically. It cannot be that on August 6, in the 200 years of our
02:59country's existence, not a single president of our neighboring countries had visited us. Among brothers,
03:07that is like not going to visit your brother or sister on their birthday. This cannot happen again
03:12in Bolivia. That is why the new dimension of Bolivia that we are building together will be with our hands
03:19outstretched to the inside of the country to work with all men and women.
03:23Likewise, Rodrigo Pastria affirmed that he has been in talks with the United States government to be part
03:30of the solutions he seeks to promote during his term of office, which begins on November 8th.
03:45Gentlemen, we must open Bolivia to the world and resume our role. And for that reason, I would also like
03:51to thank Deputy Secretary of State Landorf, who, on behalf of President Trump's government, has called
03:58us to do what we told the country we would do. We are in talks for all support, assistance or cooperation
04:07to be able to forge a close relationship with one of the most important governments in the world,
04:14the world, so that they be part of the solution starting on November 8th, so that Bolivia does not
04:22lack its hydrocarbons, and they fully support us, together with other nations that I have mentioned,
04:31so that all the efforts we have made are for the Bolivian people and to begin government with determination
04:40in the transformation that we have to carry out. Now that he has been elected President of Bolivia,
04:47let's learn a little bit about Rodrigo Paz. Rodrigo Paz Pereira, son of former President Jaime Paz Zamora,
04:53whose term was consolidated with the support of dictator Hugo Banzer, began his political career in 2002.
05:00His subsequent municipal administration was marked by allegations of corruption and controversial public
05:06works. He was a clear promoter of the destabilization that led to the coup against Evo Morales,
05:12and supported the regime of Jeanine Áñez, responsible for the Sencata and Sacaba massacres.
05:18His government proposal, the 50-50 Agenda, is criticized for being a mechanism to suffocate
05:24the central government financially, and weaken its ability to implement unitary social policies.
05:30In essence, his project seeks to revive the neoliberal policies that depend on inequality,
05:35and surrender national sovereignty to foreign capital in the past.
05:44For his part, during a statement, the candidate for the Free Alliance Party, Jorge Duto Quiroga,
05:50congratulated Rodrigo Paz, elected President for the 2025-2030 term. However, during the statement,
05:57his own party urged him not to recognize the results presented by the preliminary results system, CIREBRE.
06:05We respect the work of the CIREBRE in the first round, and we will respect it in the second round.
06:12I have called Rodrigo Paz Pereira. I wish him my congratulations.
06:18Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. No, please, please, please, please, please.
06:27I understand the pain that overwhelms us. Believe me, if there were systemic evidence,
06:35we would put it on the table. There is a provisional count. We are going to wait for the official count.
06:44We are going to have the records. We are going to compare them. We are going to do what works because
06:50the work does not end here for us. We have complaints and others that are being made. There
06:57are allegations of issues that are happening, but this is a preliminary result. We are conveying our
07:05congratulations and we are going to do the verification work until Thursday with the records in hand.
07:17In Mexico, the Juan José Landaeta Symphony Orchestra of the National System of Youth and Children's
07:35Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela gave a concert as part of the closing activities of the 25th edition
07:41of the International Book Fair in El Zócalo. The audience described the performances as a world-class
07:47show, as well as expressing their gratitude to the Venezuelan government for strengthening cultural
07:52ties with the country. The South American group performed popular music pieces by Mexican and
07:57Venezuelan composers. Prior to their performance, the ensemble, directed by Christian Vázquez,
08:04presented a concert in the Nezahuel Coyote Hall in collaboration with members of the Eduardo
08:09Domata University Youth Orchestra, and the choir of the UNAM Faculty of Music.
08:22And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember to join us on TikTok at

08:30We'll be right back. Stay with us!
08:39Welcome back to From the South. In Cuba, the Grandma Rebelde Festival concluded this Sunday in Havana,
08:49after three days of debates over the role of leftist journalism today, with delegation from
08:54over 30 countries. TELASUR was there, and our colleague Belén de los Santos brings us more details.
09:01This anniversary of the founding of the Cuban newspapers, Grandma and Juventud Rebelde,
09:06was the reason for this international gathering in Havana. The festival Grandma Rebelde brought
09:11together Cuban and international media for three days to exchange experiences and rethink the
09:17challenges and needs of leftist journalism in the 21st century.
09:21Here we gather at the Cuban media. We have television, radio and newspapers, not only those here from the
09:29capital, but also from the province who have come to this festival. Alongside us, there are also important
09:37international media from Asia, Europe and Latin America. This is also an opportunity to connect and
09:45exchange with our audience, with our people. In the year leading up to the 100th anniversary
09:51of his birth, this first edition of the festival was dedicated to Fidel. His commitment to building
09:56rigorous journalism close to the workers continues to inspire communicators of the new generations.
10:03Fidel was a man who always took the truth as his primary weapon, the press as his rifle,
10:08a powerful force for the battles he fought. I always think back to March of 1952 when Matisse staged the coup.
10:15What did that young Fidel with so many revolutionary ideas, with such a strong desire to see a different
10:20Cuba do? He took to the press as a weapon. And what was his first shot? That powerful article titled
10:26Revolution, Not a Swake.
10:29The days have been marked by cooperation and exchange. Representatives from media outlets from Venezuela,
10:35Brazil, Vietnam and the United States gathered in the Cuban capital aware that the challenging
10:41international context marked by a coordinated advance of the right worldwide demands greater
10:47solidarity among the international working class. The people of the United States don't want foreign wars.
10:54The people of the United States are having a hard time putting food on the table, are having a hard
11:00time finding quality schools for their children to go to, don't have medical care. You know, people in the U.S.
11:08are suffering because they can't go to the doctor when they're extremely ill. And yet we see our government spending
11:16so much money to enact wars that the people of the U.S. don't even want to participate in and in fact are against.
11:23We have to exchange experiences and share to discover how to do communication and journalism.
11:30in the 21st century, especially with so many challenges and so many threats
11:38to the experiences that we independent and leftist organizations and media defend so strongly.
11:46Three days filled with debate, exchange and conversation with one common goal,
11:51to strengthen existing alliances to narrate the present from the wisdom of our territories.
11:57In other news, Colombia condemns Donald Trump's accusations against President Gustavo Petro
12:10and denounces Washington's double standards in the fight against drug trafficking.
12:14The Minister of Defense assured that the statements of the President of the United States, Donald Trump,
12:19are a disrespect against national sovereignty. In addition, he reaffirmed that Colombian authorities
12:24are carrying out an intensive deployment to neutralize drug production and armed crime in the country.
12:30Meanwhile, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, responded to the testimonies of the United States
12:35and pointed out that the boat that was attacked in the Caribbean had no connections with armed groups.
12:47Via social media, the Colombian President declared,
12:50The boat belonging to the fishermen from Santa Marta did not belong to the ELN,
12:56it belonged to a humble family who loved the sea and fish for their food.
13:00What do you say to that family? Explain to me why you helped kill a humble freshman from Santa Marta,
13:06the land where Bolívar died, which they say is the heart of the world.
13:11What do you say to the family of fisherman Alejandro Cajranza? He was a humble human being.
13:16In the sense, Colombia's Defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez described U.S. President Donald Trump's
13:29remarks about Colombian President Gustavo Petro as disrespectful.
13:34Any statement made against the President of the Republic using such terms is an affront to Colombia.
13:41He is the President of all Colombians, democratically elected, and as Minister of Defense,
13:49I can fully attest to his commitment to neutralizing drug trafficking. If there is one country that has
13:56used all its resources and sacrificed men and women in this fight and has stepped up this offensive in
14:02recent years it is Colombia. I reaffirm that Colombia is a nation
14:07with absolute conviction and commitment to eradicating drug trafficking, led by our public
14:17forces and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who is the President of the Republic
14:22and the President of all Colombians.
14:28For his part, Colombia's Attorney General Gregorio El-Raq demanded respect for Colombian President
14:34Gustavo Petro in response to Donald Trump's statements.
14:39The President of the Republic represents the unity of Colombians and deserves all our respect,
14:45support and solidarity. There should be some factual evidence, which I do not believe exists,
14:53to make such a radical statement against the President of a...
14:56Meanwhile in the United States, mercenary Jordan Grudeau, mastermind of the failed Operation Gideon,
15:03confirmed that the so-called Los Soles Cartel was created by the CIA in the 1990s.
15:08Gudeau dismantled the imperial narrative that accuses Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of
15:13heading a drug trafficking organization, pointing out that it was the US government who founded it
15:19before the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution. Gudeau referred to the name Los Soles Cartel as a
15:26joke among Americans, explaining it came from a patch on the uniform and was imposed by agencies such
15:31as the DEA. The mercenary pointed out that, regardless of who occupies the White House,
15:37the ultimate goal is to protect the flows of resources deprived from these illicit operations
15:42and maintain their hegemony in the region.

16:07We'll be right back with more from the South. Don't go away.
16:23Welcome back. After killing at least 44 people in the last 24 hours,
16:41Israeli authorities denounced that they will once again abide by the ceasefire in Gaza.
16:46In the meanwhile, the Al-Qassan Brigades, the Armed Greens of the Hamas Movement,
16:50announced the discovery of bodies belonging to Israeli captives during search operations in the
16:55Gaza Strip, stating that they cannot hunt over due to the ongoing Israeli attacks.
17:01Meanwhile, the Palestinian-resistant movement Hamas confirmed the dispatch of a delegation to Cairo,
17:06led by Khalid Al-Aiya, to meet with mediators and other Palestinian factions to discuss the
17:12intermittent ceasefire agreement after reported more than 47 other ceasefire violations.
17:20Meanwhile, in Palestine, health authorities received 29 bodies and treated 21 injured
17:29Palestinians in the last 48 hours, despite the entry into force of the ceasefire.
17:35Gaza health officials reported that the number of Palestinian deaths in the Gaza Strip rose to
17:40more than 68,000, and the number of injured exceeds 170,000. They also reported that despite the
17:47ceasefire there have been 27 Palestinian deaths and 143 injuries from Israeli attacks since October 11,
17:552025. Gaza authorities indicated that 15 additional unidentified bodies were also received from Israel,
18:02bringing the total number of bodies returned to 135.
18:06In this scenario, the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development reported that at least 57,000 children
18:19became orphans since the beginning of the Israeli regime's aggression against the people of Gaza.
18:25Israel's genocided attacks include the use of all types of firearms, which resulted in the destruction
18:31of infrastructure in society in the Palestinian enclave. The Ministry warned that children are the
18:36group most affected by the occupation attacks, as they have lost their parents and have been deprived of
18:42education and family stability. Meanwhile, environmental research organizations report that the Gaza Strip is
18:54facing an unprecedented environmental crisis, threatening to unleash a long-term humanitarian catastrophe.
19:01Intense Israeli bombing has destroyed ecosystems, rendering most agricultural land unusable, and
19:07devastating water systems in the region. Currently, this situation described by experts as a freefall can be
19:14summed up in three trickle factors. Contaminated water, destroyed farmland, and a broken electrical grid,
19:20which together are bringing the Palestinian enclave to the brink of collapse.
19:30At the same time, Israeli warplanes carried out a series of air strikes in southern Lebanon,
19:34targeting a cement plant and the facilities of an environmental group.
19:39The Israeli army stated that the attack a quarry operated by the international company Mahabel,
19:44and a site belonging to the Green Without Borders. Because the Hezbollah-resistant movement was
19:50using them as alleged terrorist fronts. For its part, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed
19:56that following the massive explosions, six people were injured south of the country.
20:01It should be noted that the incident marks a significant escalation in the current cross-border
20:05conflict, which has seen almost daily exchanges of fire since October 2023.
20:11In El Salvador, authorities declare an orange alert in the country due to the heavy rains recorded in the
20:32last few hours. Authorities warn of the high probability of floating and rising river levels,
20:37given the adverse water conditions, though one of a high risk in rock falls, which could block roads
20:43and highways and affect communities near slopes and mountainous areas of the country.
20:48For their part, civil production teams specified that the highest accumulated rainfall was 83.4 mm,
20:55recorded at the Zaragoza Station in the Department of La Libertad.
20:59They also stated that the low-pressure system moving over the Barlovento Islands in the Eastern Caribbean
21:05has the potential to become a disturbance in the coming days.
