00:45Millez and his sister Karina Millez once as part of the investigation into the Libra Crypto
00:50Scheme.
00:51Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Sophie Fernandez from Hotel Sur Studios in Havana,
00:59Cuba.
01:00We'll begin with the news, stay with us.
01:15The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas confirmed that it had accepted the first
01:25phase of this peace plan for Palestine proposed by the US government.
01:31The agreement implies that all the Israeli detainees will be released and that the Israel regime
01:35will be released and that the Israel regime will withdraw its troops to a line agreed upon
01:41in order to allow the entry of humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people who have been
01:46victims of two years of genocidal escalation.
01:50The agreement will be signed on Thursday and the first prisoners will be released on Saturday
01:54or Sunday.
01:55The ceasefire will begin at midday on Thursday.
01:59Additionally, the resistance movement asked the parties involved to provide guarantees for
02:04the fulfillment of this agreement.
02:14In this regard, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas drew a statement detail.
02:19Following the negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, Hamas and the Palestinian resistance
02:23factions have reached an agreement to put an end to the war in Gaza, ensure the withdrawal
02:29of Israeli occupation forces allow the entry of humanitarian aid and implement a prisoner
02:34exchange.
02:37They continue to express that Hamas greatly values the efforts of the mediators from Qatar, Egypt
02:42and Turkey.
02:43Hamas urges President Trump, the guarantor states and all Arab, Islamic and international parties
02:50to ensure that Israel implements the agreement fully, without evasion or delay.
02:55The movement honours the Palestinian people in Gaza, Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Diaspora,
03:01for the steadfastness and the resistance against Israel's attempts to subjugate and displace
03:06them.
03:11For his part, US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday the signing of the first phase
03:16of the peace plan between Israel and Hamas, an achievement made possible with the support
03:21of the delegations from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, highlighting the loss of the US influence in
03:27the negotiations.
03:29Through social media Trump highlighted, I am proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have
03:34signed the first phase of our peace plan.
03:37This means that all hostages will be released very soon, and Israel would withdraw its troops
03:42to an agreed line as the first steps towards a strong, lasting and everlasting peace.
03:49All parties will be treated fairly.
03:51This is a great day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel and all neighbouring nations,
03:57and the United States of America, and I thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey,
04:02who work with us to make the historic and unprecedented event happen.
04:06Blessed are the peacemakers.
04:14Meanwhile in Palestine, citizens celebrate the ceasefire agreement reached between the
04:18Palestinian-resistant movement Hamas and Israel.
04:22Celebrations erupted in Jan Junis, Gaza, as crowds filled the Al-Amal Square, waving flags
04:28and launching fireworks after the announcement of the Gaza peace agreement.
04:32Let's recall that this agreement comes two years after the escalation of the
04:36Israeli genocide against the coastal enclave.
04:39However, this is not the first agreement reached since then, as Hamas and the Zionist regime
04:45had agreed to cease hostilities against Gaza in January.
04:49Just two months later, in March, the Israeli regime unilaterally broke the agreed ceasefire.
05:06In Vietnam, the heavy rains that flooded Typhoon Madmo caused severe damage in numerous localities
05:15in the north of the country, according to the Department of Dike Management and Natural Disaster
05:20Prevention of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
05:24By 5 p.m. local time on October 8th, almost 22,600 hectares of rice and other crops were floated,
05:32hundreds of thousands of heads of livestock and poultry had died or been swept away by the water,
05:39and 16,918 homes remained floated.
05:43The floods also caused landslides and cuts in 66 points of the natural roads, temporarily paralysed in traffic.
05:52The Hanoi-Dung-Dung Railway lines suspended operations, and many provincial and rural roads were impossible.
06:05In other news in Denmark, the government has announced an initiative to establish a minimum age limit of 15 years
06:12for social media users, with the aim of protecting children from potential abuse.
06:17The executive opens the door for 13- and 14-year-olds to have access to these networks if their parents authorize it.
06:25However, the Ministry of Digitalization, Caroline Steich, has emphasized that under no circumstances
06:31can the digital lives of minors be left in the hands of these platforms.
06:36The government has not established a precise timetable for promoting this reform,
06:41which could be the subject of debate in the run-up to the 2026 legislative elections.
06:47And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember to join us on TikTok at Tell us about English,
06:55where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more.
06:59We'll be right back, stay with us!
07:17Welcome back to From the South!
07:45Welcome back to From the South, and we go to Venezuela, where President Nicolás Maduro
07:50emphasized that the U.S. deployment in the Caribbean hides Washington's interest in
07:54regime change in Venezuela.
07:57During the inauguration of a hospital that will provide care for more than 300,000 children
08:02per year, the Venezuelan head of state emphasized that the armed forces, the people's powers
08:08and the police will continue military exercises in defense of the country's sovereignty.
08:14He also condemned Israel's genocidal actions against the Palestinian people and rejected
08:18the United States' interference in the decisions of the Venezuelan people.
08:23In this regard, the United States is deployed in the Caribbean, from where it has taken illegal
08:28action against Venezuelan fishing boats in flagrant violation of international law.
08:34We don't mess with anyone, but we are every time more ready to defend the sacred soil of
08:46Venezuela.
08:48The empire of the United States is not right.
08:52What do they want?
08:56That's what I wonder.
08:58Here in the middle of this beautiful rain, the U.S. empire, does it love Venezuela?
09:06Do they love us very much?
09:10What they want is a war in the Caribbean and South America to cause a change of regime to
09:18impose a government that is a puppet and to steal the petroleum, the gas, the gold.
09:28Following the deployment of comprehensive defense measures in Venezuelan ports, the armed forces
09:34urged the people to remain vigilant in the face of the military threat posed by the United States
09:39in the Caribbean Sea.
09:41Defense Minister Vladimir Palino López reiterated that the National Armed Forces enjoy a high
09:46level of cohesion, while the Venezuelan people demonstrate a high level of awareness.
09:51During his speech, Palino López warned that a possible U.S. aggression could take form
09:56on the operations such as airstrikes, naval blockades, special force arrays, and sabotage
10:02of the electricity system.
10:04He also emphasized that the Bolivar National Armed Forces and the National Arrest Management
10:09System are on alert in the face of U.S. threats in the Caribbean Sea.
10:20Because anything can be expected from the world's hegemon as a soldier, a military citizen, and
10:27a military leader.
10:28I have to always assume the worst case scenario, and I am not being alarmist here.
10:41I do not want to be spreading distress or alarmism among the population.
10:51But I want to alert the population that we have to prepare ourselves because the irrationality
10:56with which U.S. imperialism acts is not normal.
11:02In other news, after 17 days of natural strike in Ecuador, President Daniel Novoa's government
11:08has detained 117 protesters, opposing the fuel subsidy elimination and police repression.
11:16Social organizations and additional movements demand the release of those detained, among
11:21them 11 minors and 10 women, who have joined the protests against Novoa's policies.
11:27They also denounced the disappearance of at least five community leaders, who were arrested
11:32by the military during mobilizations in El Cañar Province.
11:36This Wednesday, the Ecuadorian people remained in the streets, condemning the criminalization
11:40of protests by the executive, the elimination of the diesel subsidy, and the lack of access
11:45to education and health.
11:48Moving on to the United States, the Democratic Party's legislative branch will push for a
11:58Senate vote to block the use of the armed forces by President Donald Trump in military operations
12:03against ships in the Caribbean Sea.
12:06The Democratic Senator for California, Adam Schiff, affirmed that, together with his colleague
12:11Tim Kaine, he will force the U.S. Parliament to vote on the decision of the Trump administration
12:17to bomb vessels in the Caribbean Sea.
12:20This statement comes in response to the attacks ordered by the U.S. President under the pretext
12:25of combating drug trafficking, which have resulted in the alleged deaths of civilians aboard fishing
12:31boats.
12:32This aggression has been widely questioned and rejected by the international community, and
12:37denounces a flagrant violation of international law.
12:46In this context, Colombian President Gustavo Petro highlighted that a new war scenario has
12:51opened up in the region.
12:53Through his ex-account, President Petro stated, Senator Ana Schiff is right.
12:58I am now in a meeting with European governments and I will say the same thing.
13:02A new theater of war has opened up.
13:05The Caribbean.
13:06Evidence suggests that the last vote bomb was Colombian, carrying Colombian citizens.
13:11I hope their families appear and speak out.
13:16This is not a war against smuggling.
13:18It is a war for oil and it must be stopped by the world.
13:22This aggression is against all of Latin America and the Caribbean.

14:00Welcome back.
14:01In Argentina, federal prosecutor Eduardo Taitano ordered the analysis of President Javier Milei's
14:07and his sister Karina Milei's phones as part of the investigation into the Libra crypto
14:12scam.
14:13The measure aims to determine whether there were direct communications between Milei and
14:17the promoters of the token, Hayden Davis, Mauricio Novelli and Manuel Tejrones-Codoy.
14:24According to the resolution, the analysis will review all conversations, both individual and
14:29group, and in all messaging applications.
14:32Additionally, the persecution requested the cross-referencing of calls and geolocations
14:38to track the movements of Hayden Davis, creative of the token, during his stay in Argentina.
14:44The devices to be examined are thus ceased in March 6, 2025, just 20 days after the financial
14:51scandal.
14:59Also on Argentina, on Wednesday, Fernando Zavac Montiel and Brenda Oliarte were convicted for
15:04the magnified attempt against former president and leader of the Justicialist Party, Cristina
15:10Fernández de Kirchner, on September 1, 2022.
15:14Fernando Zavac Montiel was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder with three
15:19aggravating circumstances, including gender-based violence in its political form and the use of
15:25a firearm. Brenda Oliarte received an eight-year term for her participation in the assassination
15:31attempt. Zavac Montiel was also sentenced to an additional four years for possession of
15:36child abuse material, bringing his total sentence to 14 years.
15:41In this context, there has been criticisms that the perpetrators of the assassination attempt
15:46have been convicted, but not the masterminds.
15:59Meanwhile, the Argentine government authorised the Foreign Ministry to initiate the extradition
16:04process of businessman Federico Ferrat Machado, accused of drug trafficking, money laundering,
16:11and other charges in the United States since 2021. Ferrat Machado was arrested at his home
16:16in Vietma, in the province of Rio Negro. The approval of the extradition by the Supreme
16:21Courts comes amid a scandal linking the alleged drug trafficker to the leading candidate of La
16:28Libertad Vanza Party for National Deputy of Buenos Aires, José Luis Esper. In this scenario,
16:35Esper resigned his candidacy on Monday. Critical voices have expressed doubts about the
16:40transparency of this action and see a political use that could divert attention from the corruption
16:46scandals to strengthen the image of Liberty Advances Party in the weeks leading up to the
16:52October 26 elections.
17:01In other news in Chile, Mapuche people staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday at the National
17:06Indigenous Development Corporation Conadi, offices marking 11 months since the first disappearance
17:13of leader Julia Chunil. The action was intended to denounce the complicity of the state institution
17:19in a territorial displacement suffered by its people. The institution was endorsed irregularities
17:25involving large sums of money, transforming the protection of Indigenous heritage into a lucrative
17:31business. In response to the pressure, Simena Montesinos, head of the Conadi office in Santiago,
17:38committed to organizing a meeting between the institution and Julia Chunil's family,
17:43as well as to make the process of purchasing the selling of the disputed land transparent.
17:49Also in Chile, police repressed student protests at La Moneda Palace while they were holding a
18:01vigil for the disappearance of the Mapuche leader on Wednesday. High school students from the capital
18:07held a vigil on the 11th month's anniversary of the disappearance of Mapuche leader Julia Chunil.
18:13The event was just beginning when security forces cracked down those present and took two students
18:18into custody. Also in the south of the country, police entered a university to repress another demonstration
18:25for the Mapuche leader. In response, the students denounced the double standards of the press and the
18:31Chilean state in the face of disappearance in a context of militarization of the Mapuche territory.
18:43Meanwhile in Uruguay, psychology teachers hold classes in the streets amid budget demands from the
18:48sector. Teachers explained that the measure was taken because classrooms are not large enough
18:54to accommodate the student population, as well as the lack of teaching staff. They also raise alarms
19:01about the problems of teaching classes in the classrooms, given the demand for essential supplies,
19:06such as chairs, tables, among other things. The government is only offering a 1.8% increase,
19:14while the university community is demanding a 52% budget increase.
19:27Training in psychology requires close contact, guidance, the teacher being there during practicals,
19:325 students, 6 students, today we have a lot or sometimes we don't have the possibility to generate
19:37practical training, that creates a backlog in students, will we be able to open under these conditions
19:43next year? What happens if the psychology department doesn't open next year? These are the concerns we have.
19:52In other news, Bolivian President Luis Arce reaffirmed his government's firm stance
19:57in rejecting any action that undermines democracy, and confirmed his willingness to hand over the
20:03presidency to the new leader, elected by the Bolivian people on November 8th. Through his social media
20:09accounts, President Luis Arce stated, as a national government, we reaffirmed our absolutely firm
20:15position against any plan that threatens democracy, as well as our own wavering decision to hand over
20:21the government on November 8th, to the winner of the current elections.
20:37Mexico, the 30th edition of the National Rural Culture Fair begin, paying tribute to the traditions
20:53of the indigenous peoples of Veracruz, San Luis Potosí and Hidalgo. The event presents a program with 118
21:01activities and integrating both traditional and contemporary cultural expressions, and features
21:07the participation of 800 artisans from all over the country. The fair began with an inaugural parade
21:14and a gala of traditional clothing, entitled Smooth Homeland, in which the students from the Autonomous
21:21University of Chapingo showed off traditional costumes accompanied by representative music.
21:27The fair would also feature exhibitions on agricultural diversity, and conferences on coffee rolls in
21:34climate change mitigation.
