00:48Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernanda from the Telesur Studios in
00:57Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:12In Venezuela, the head of state Nicolas Maduro pointed out that new goals have been set for
01:162026, aimed at consolidating the advances of the Bolivarian Revolution and guaranteeing
01:21the well-being of the Venezuelan people. During the devalance sheet of the National
01:26System of Popular Government, President Nicolas Maduro mentioned that the Plan 2026, it must
01:32be ensured that these strategic lines are carried out throughout the national territory, and that
01:37the necessary resources to finance the 5,336 communal circuits. The first tax of the Plan 2026 is to
01:46consolidate the public works through direct and permanent democracy. The second line will
01:51focus on strengthening the planning and action system of the Communists and the Plan for the
01:55Seven Transformations. In turn, the President ensured that the third line, as he has the central
02:01objective, the strengthening of the self-government system. On the other hand, President Maduro emphasized
02:07that the original Bolivarians do not seek to imitate Burgos democracies, but rather to build a new
02:13communal state based on justice, grassroots democracy and popular participation.
02:27We are the original Bolivarians, who show solidarity in good times and even more solidarity in bad times,
02:34with the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
02:36We are the Bolivarians who want to build original republics, as Simone Rodriguez said,
02:51and not absurd and decadent imitations or copies of limited, false, and rotten bourgeois democracies.
02:56We did not come here to replicate a bourgeois democracy.
02:59Nor we came to manage a bourgeois state. The original Bolivarians, inspired by Chávez,
03:13are building the new communal state, the state of justice, the democratic state, the lawful state,
03:19the state with the people, the democracy with the people.
03:22The Venezuelan president declared the beginning of a new government phase,
03:29which he defined as communal transition to socialism.
03:39We could say that today the communal government of transition to socialism is born in Venezuela,
03:43and I declare that our Bolivarian government, starting today, declares itself the communal
03:48government of transition to socialism, with the 5,0336 self-government rooms.
04:05With the 5,0336 territorial governments, that have neighbors, families, communities,
04:10and concrete force that debates, participates, acts, builds, and makes their territories visible
04:16The Bolivarian president also ratified the commitment of the Venezuelan people,
04:25with the political project outlined by Commander Hugo Chávez.
04:35In his struggle against that illness that attacked him like in an ambush,
04:39and how he departed with the clarity of a prophet, charting the collective course of a people who have
04:43who have not failed him, of a people, the people of Venezuela, who will never fail his legacy,
05:03his message, and the oath made to Commander Chávez, an oath from the soul.
05:07A sacred oath to sacred oaths, sacred commitments, v. We said it, we have said it, we have done it,
05:28and will continue to do for the times to come.
05:45The United Socialist Party of Venezuela commemorated Monday the day of loyalty and love for Commander
05:51Hugo Chávez. The date is commemorated every 8th of December since 2013, to pay tribute to the
05:57Bolivarian commander and keep his political legacy of his ideas alive. During a press conference,
06:03the Paris General Secretary de Estado Cabello highlighted the special significance of the date,
06:08and remembered Chávez's final instructions to vote for Nicolás Maduro if presidential elections were called.
06:14The political leader also referred to the four months of war threats by the United States
06:19against a Bolivarian nation, and announced that Venezuela's right-wing's efforts to sell the
06:24country's natural wars to U.S. interests.
06:26On August 8th, if I remember correctly, a new phase of aggression against our people began,
06:43of siege of the Venezuelan people, of our territory, of threats with increasing force by those who think
06:51they can come and grab the wealth of Venezuela.
07:05It was on August 8th, for months now. And each month their spokespersons and their groups of
07:12jobless opinion makers throughout the world, trying to sow chaos in the minds of Venezuelans,
07:19a psychological terrorism against our people.
07:35Psychological terrorism, using all sorts of pressure, lies, fake news,
07:41fears, repeting false narratives without any real foundation. And it's already December 8th.
07:55And we must remember that they were saying that we wouldn't make it to August 30th, then September,
08:02and then October, and November, and now baby Jesus is coming, and our people remain standing and firm.
08:11Our people remain united.
08:17In another part of the press conference, the General Secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela
08:23expresses gratitude for the international support received by the Venezuelan people,
08:28in the context of US threats and aggressions.
08:32We thank the peoples of the world for the support they have given our country and our struggle.
08:37Our struggle of today. Our battle of today. Today in Venezuela. But tomorrow it could perfectly well be in any other country.
08:46Actually, these are already the battles of other peoples too. Those constant threats.
08:55And now we have a short break coming up. But first remember you can join us on TikTok at Tell us what English,
08:59where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and more. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
09:04Welcome back. The National Emergency System of Honduras delivers to the public persecutor's office conclusive evidence,
09:23denouncing an intimidation campaign against free voting with the involvement of organized crime.
09:28On Monday, the National Emergency System 9-1-1 formalized the delivery of a package of certified evidence
09:35to the country's persecutor's office, documenting the intimidation and coercion by criminal groups
09:41during the elections on November 30th. The evidence is based on almost 900 calls made by
09:47citizens to the emergency hotline before and during election day. Among the crimes reported,
09:53more than 630 cases of disturbance of the peace at polling stations stand out. In addition, 37 direct
09:59complaints were filed for intimidation by criminal groups and 44 for both buying and selling. The
10:06material delivered to the public persecutor's office includes audio recordings and documentation for each
10:11call. With this evidence, authorities could carry out the necessary investigations to issue persecutions
10:17against those who attempted to undermine the electoral process and bring to justice those
10:22responsible for violence and the will of the people.
10:34There are 892 audio recordings of calls received by the National Emergency System 9-1-1 reporting
10:40intimidation, coercion by organized crime, vote buying and selling, alteration of the electoral process,
10:46kidnapping of electoral material, confiscation of voter identification documents for voting,
10:52that did not only threaten people. They were not only at the polling stations, they also went to
10:57areas where they knew they were not going to be politically favored and took away people's identity
11:01documents so they could not vote. This happened in this process. It was an unprecedented, dirty,
11:07fraudulent process and we cannot remain silent.
11:10Moving on to Haiti. For 16 consecutive days, the air transport strike in Haiti has been exacerbated by the
11:20crisis of insecurity plaguing the population. Since November 23rd, the terminal has suspended domestic
11:26and international flights after one of its aircrafts was shot by an air group. Residents reported that
11:33private helicopters began charging a fortune to replace air routes, while experts believe that the
11:39measure responds to business interests taking advantage of the Christmas season. Airlines are demanding that the
11:45state establishes security regulations around the airport perimeter and implement appropriate protection strategies.
12:02Moving now to Mexico. President Claudia Sheinbaum led the celebration with the people for the 7th
12:07anniversary of the arrival of the forced transformation to the Presidency of the Republic. The Mexican
12:13President highlighted the massive depresence of citizens from various parts of the country.
12:17She also pointed out that the forced transformation is represented as an economic, political and ethical
12:23model, being a different front of the government since 2018. The Mexican head of state mentioned that the
12:29country is on the right track, adding that the government is working to strengthen both public and private investments.
12:43We must not only have confidence in the people of Mexico, and in what we Mexicans are, but also in the economic
12:53model, and what the project we represent stands for. Mexico has done better with this form of government, and,
13:00at its core, with what the project represents. Next year will be better for us because there will be more investment.
13:07We will provide more information, but we are working hard to strengthen public and private investment in various ways,
13:15to ensure that there is more growth, and, at the same time, that the distribution of wealth continues.
13:30The ship Manuel Gual of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America People's Trade Treaty Alba Ticipi
13:45arrived in Cuba this Monday with a new batch of Solidarity 8. The ship arrived at the port of Guillermo Moncada
13:53in Santiago de Cuba. The executive secretary of Alba Ticipi, Render Peña, explained that this new ship
13:59shipment of aid is intended to support the restoration work being carried out in the country following
14:04Hurricane Melissa. The shipment includes 76 food containers and 5 backholes, among other resources,
14:11to assist with the repairs. Peña also revealed that the ship Manuel Gual has recently delivered over 12,000
14:17tons of food, medicine, children's toys, and other supplies to Cuba, photo exemplifying the close ties between the nations.
14:29Meanwhile, Jamaica tackles post-hurricane leptospirosis outbreak as cases and deaths rises in their parishes.
14:40From Barbaros, our correspondent Crystal Hoyt brings us more details.
14:44The Ministry of Health is urging increased caution following a continued rise in leptospirosis cases
14:52after the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Flooding has heightened contact with rodent-contaminated water
14:59and officials now confirm 71 suspected probable or confirmed cases. The Ministry has also verified 12
15:08leptospirosis-related deaths, seven of which are laboratory confirmed. At a national press briefing,
15:16national epidemiologist Dr. Karen Webster Kerr outlined the latest figures and said transmission rates remain
15:23highest in St. James, St. Anne and St. Elizabeth.
15:28Most affected persons are persons 20 to 29 and those 60 years and over.
15:34The deaths are all males, and males predominate with the cases and deaths, particularly in persons 20 to 29,
15:47followed by persons 16 years and older. This is a spread of cases of leptospirosis post-hurricane,
15:55as would have been in the table prior.
15:58While health officials warn that flood-impacted communities should stay vigilant, they stress
16:05that the outbreak is being actively managed. Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton
16:11says the Ministry is intensifying water testing, sanitation checks and community outreach in high-risk areas.
16:18We have been managing the leptospirosis outbreak.
16:25We are mindful that that can easily be understood as panic, and we would like to discourage that.
16:33And sometimes the headlines does project a sense of the need to panic. This is not what our intentions are.
16:41We are also mindful that we are a country that has an obligation to both the local population,
16:47but also, importantly, in a big tourism space. We also have an obligation to our visitors and tourism interests.
17:00As recovery from Hurricane Melissa continues, authorities say quick medical attention and limiting exposure to
17:08contaminated water remain key to reducing further infections.

17:32Final short break, but we'll be right back with more from the south. Don't go away.
17:45Welcome back. The Kazan Brigades and the Red Cross entered the town of Saitun in the Gaza Strip to search for the
18:11last Israeli body as part of the ceasefire agreement. Amid the stories, Basel Naim, a member of Hamas
18:18Political Bureau, said he was ready to discuss freezing or storing weapons with guarantees that
18:24they would not be used as part of the ceasefire agreement with Israel. For their part, Israeli media
18:30assured that the US President Donald Trump recommended that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
18:35promote diplomacy in his relations with the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria.
18:40Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OSHA, reported
18:53that at least 320 of its workers were killed in 23 countries during 2025. The organization stated that
19:0098 percent of the humanitarian workers killed were local employees operating in vulnerable communities of
19:06the countries in conflict. In this regard, the OSHA warned that the Palestinian territories occupied by
19:12Israel are the most dangerous in the world for the organization, with 120 deaths in 2025. The United
19:20Nations highlighted that attacks against humanitarian personnel violate international law and that states are
19:26responsible to guarantee their protection.
19:37The United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, warn that the Democratic Republic of Congo is facing the worst
19:45cholera outbreak in 25 years, with more than 1,800 deaths since the beginning of 2025. The organization reported that
19:54since the beginning of the year 64,427 cases have been reported, with 14,818 cases in minors and 340 minors dead,
20:06noting that the epidemic has affected 17 of the country's 26 provinces.
20:11Unsafe sanitation continues to be the country's main problem,
20:15as only 43 percent of the population have access to public water supply services, which is the
20:24lowest rate in Africa, and only 15 percent have access to basic sanitation services.
20:31At the end of last November, the World Health Organization reported that the highest number
20:35of cholera cases worldwide were registered in the eastern Mediterranean region, followed by the regions of
20:41Africa, Southeast Asia, America and the Western Pacific.
20:51In other news, at least four civilians died and nine were injured in Cambodia Monday, during the armed
20:56conflict with Thailand. According to the Cambodian Defense Ministry, Thai troops bombed the presidential
21:02areas in the north of the country, forcing the evacuation of over a thousand families.
21:08On the other hand, Thailand authorities affirmed that the clashes began in the southeastern province
21:13of Ubon Hratchatagni, where Cambodian units killed one soldier and injured several others.
21:20On this part, the Thai Air Force reportedly attacked targets in the Shong and Ma Pass,
21:25claiming they were military support centers used by Cambodia to attack Thai positions.
21:31The two nations have been involved in a century-old border dispute, which escalated last July 24.
21:37After a brief ceasefire in October, Thailand suspended the truce after two of its soldiers
21:43were injured by a landmine explosion near the border.
21:52On the other hand, Thai authorities called on citizens to help locate Cambodian spies amid a new
21:57spiral of tension between the two countries. Authorities also urged people to be aware of suspicious
22:03behavior near government buildings and facilities related to national security, taking photographs
22:09or gathering information in closed territories, as well as intrusion into closed territories without
22:15justifiable cause. According to the Thai Ministry of Defense, Cambodia's actions demonstrated its
22:21unwillingness to build peace. In response to the Thai government's accusations, Cambodia categorically
22:27rejected the versions circulated by Bangkok. The Ministry of Defense described the Thai
22:32accusation as a false, and assured that its troops have only been the target of attacks after several
22:38days of provocations, which, if maintained, have not been retaliated. In addition, they reported that
22:44Thai forces have repeatedly fired on the Tamwane Thom Temple, an area adjacent to the Pria Vihar Shrine,
22:52a historically sensitive point between the two countries.
23:04Meanwhile, the government of India is closely monitoring relations between Thailand and Cambodia,
23:09and urges both sides to return to the buzz of dialogue and peace. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman
23:16Ranhir Haswal said that his country's government hopes that both sides will act with restraint and
23:22put an end to the fighting in order to return to the buzz of dialogue and peace. It should be noted
23:27that the High School statements come after the escalation of hostilities in the border,
23:32areas between Thailand and Cambodia over the weekend, when the parties exchanged accusations of violating the ceasefire.
