00:23has been sworn in as President of the Republic.
00:26The permanent mission of Venezuela to the United Nations requesting an urgent meeting due
00:34to the military escalation of the United States in the Caribbean.
00:39Countries around the world, social and human rights organizations welcome the agreement
00:47between the resistance movement Hamas and Israel for a ceasefire and peace in the Gaza Strip.
00:54Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:59I'm Sophie Fernandez from the Tlaxo Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:02We begin with the news.
01:04Following the removal from office of former President Dina Boluarte, José Lleriora, from the We Are Peru Party,
01:11previously head of the Peruvian Congress, has been sworn in as President of the Republic.
01:16Ex-President Dina Boluarte has voted out of office by the Congress in the early hours of Friday.
01:22In accordance with Article 115 of the Constitution, due to the absence of Vice Presidents in Peru,
01:28the President of the Congress assumes the interim leadership of the country.
01:33José Lleriora assumed the Presidency of the Republic early this Friday after the plenary sessions of Congress failed to approve the motion of censure
01:41brought against the Parliament's brought of directors, which he shares.
01:46Llera becomes the third President of the current five-year term from 2021 to 2026, after Pedro Castillo and Dina Boluarte.
01:56Now, let's learn about José Herí, who is currently the President of the Congress of Peru and who will assume as President of the Republic.
02:08Legislator José Enrique Herí-Oré, from the Somos Peru Party, was elected President of Congress for the 2025-2026 term,
02:17after winning the election for the Executive Committee.
02:20Herí's political career has been marked by investigations, including allegations of sexual abuse, disobedience to authorities, and alleged acts of corruption linked to the Budget Committee.
02:31According to Article 115 of the Constitution, if there are no Vice Presidents, the President of Congress assumes interim leadership of the country.
02:39Therefore, following the removal from office of ex-president Dina Boluarte, the Presidency will fall to José Herí-Oré.
02:47The World Food Programme issued a dramatic alert to the international community about the imminent risk of famine in Haiti.
02:58Currently, 5.7 million people, more than half of the country's total population, are facing critical levels of food insecurity,
03:06of which 2.1 million are at the most serious level, classified as an emergency.
03:11Reports indicate that armed groups now control nearly 90% of the country, preventing the population from acquiring food and pushing the most vulnerable families directly into the farming.
03:22This forces many to produce their meals and consume very low-quality products, causing malnutrition rates to skyrocket.
03:30The violence has also led to the displacement of 1.3 million people, with more than half of those displaced being children,
03:38further aggravating child malnutrition rates.
03:41Moving on to Ecuador, the indigenous movement marks 18 consecutive days of protests triggered by the increase in the price of diesel,
03:58while government refuses to address the demands.
04:01The government reported that a group of Ecuadorians caused damage to some presidential vehicles during protests,
04:08an incident that led to the arrest of at least five civilians.
04:12In this scenario, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities rejected the accusations made by President Daniel Novoa,
04:18and questioned the level of security under his command.
04:21In this regard, the indigenous movements point out that the state must provide security guarantees for the president,
04:27without exposing him to the civilian population during tours as a political provocation.
04:32The indigenous peoples stated that they will continue protesting until the government opens a dialogue to address the country's problems.
04:40And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at De La Sur English,

04:56We'll be right back, stay with us!
05:10Welcome back!
05:11The permanent mission of Venezuela to the United Nations requested an urgent meeting due to the military escalation of the United States in the Caribbean.
05:19The government of Venezuela sent a letter to the president of the Security Council, the Russian Ambassador Vasily Neviense,
05:26stating that the government of Donald Trump has intensified military action against the country,
05:31including the economic blockade with more than a thousand coercive unilateral measures.
05:36The letter also states that these actions violate the Tlatelolco Treaty and the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace,
05:44using the pretext of a supposed fight against drug trafficking.
05:48In this regard, Venezuela denounces that Washington has carried out bombings of civilian vessels in international waters,
05:54resulting in extrajudicial killings, according to experts from the United Nations,
06:00with which they violate the right to life and the principle of resumption of innocence.
06:05In the letter set by the Venezuelan government, they highlight that
06:17we are facing a reality that has no precedent in the last 200 years of Republican history.
06:23This letter, based on proven, reasonable and objective information, confirms that a military attack by the United States of America against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela could occur in the very near future.
06:35The ongoing military mobilization, the escalation of hostile and provocative actions, and the increasingly incendiary rhetoric confirm this.
06:45To finalize the text in stating that, in the name of the people and government of the Bolivian Republic of Venezuela, a meeting of the Security Council be convened with urgency to discuss this issue,
06:57determine the existence of a threat to peace, and formulate recommendations to stop the ongoing U.S. aggression plans.
07:04Now we move to Cuba, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs retreated its denunciation of the escalation of aggressions by the government of the United States against Venezuela,
07:17and the false narratives promoted to justify this offensive.
07:20It also called on the international community to mobilize to stop the criminal escalation.
07:26Through a communique, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs Express, Cuba has been alerting about the growing escalation of the United States government against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
07:38whose obvious goal is to overthrow the constitutional government of President Nicolás Maduro Moros,
07:43and install a government that deserves the United States and puts the country's oil and other important natural resources, as well as its own sovereignty, at its disposal.
07:54In this regard, the texts emphasize, Cuba is making a new call to mobilize the international community to stop an armed attack on Venezuela.
08:02Once again, we declare our firm an unshakable support for the Bolivarian and Chavista government of Venezuela,
08:08and the popular and military unity of the Venezuelan people.
08:11Latin America and the Caribbean must remain a zone of peace.
08:24In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro stated that the country is consolidating itself as an epicenter of hope for the world, as he welcomed the delegates of the World Congress in defense of the Mother Earth.
08:44President Nicolás Maduro held a meeting with delegates of the World Congress in defense of Mother Earth, where he accused the world powers of denying the true climate emergency.
08:54In this sense, the President emphasized the urgent needs for all nations to act together to stop global pollution and preserve life on the planet.
09:03The Congress was attended by 173 international delegates from 62 countries and 1,151 national delegates representing social movements and eco-socialist communes,
09:15where crucial topics for environmental protection and eco-socialism were addressed.
09:21Between documents that were signed, diplomacy of the deceit, not fulfilling agreements, more contamination, more emissions,
09:36but now it is worse because it has happened, a powerful current with a lot of political and economical and communicational and military power
09:50that are the supremacists of the North that want to impose the negation and that will be the end of the human species on Earth.
09:59So our fight now is renewing to stop the supremacists that deny and also to implement from the people and from the governments of a popular character,
10:19the measures of attention, mitigation and answering to the phenomenon of the climate emergency that the planet is currently going through.

10:52Don't go away.
11:21Welcome back.
11:22Countries around the world, social and human rights organizations welcomed the agreement between the resistance movement Hamas and Israel for a ceasefire and peace in the Gaza Strip.
11:31After three days of negotiations in Egypt, Israel and Hamas agreed to sign and implement a peace plan for the Gaza Strip,
11:39an agreement reached through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States.
11:44In this regard, Palestinian President Mahamoud Abbas expressed his hopes for a political and permanent solution to end the Israeli occupation and establish a Palestinian state.
11:54A meeting to discuss the approval of the ceasefire deal is ongoing at the Israeli security government.
12:09Meanwhile, Palestinians have spoken about the agreement seeking peace in the Gaza Strip and expressed their hope for an end to the genocide and suffering for themselves and their families.
12:22Thank God. Today we triumphed and we are very happy. We will return to Gaza and kiss its soil. We will pray to thank God and, God willing, the wars will not return again.
12:35First, thank God. We have been displaced for two years. Today we are full of happiness and no one in the world is happier than us.
12:45We have been suffering for two years. Two years of displacement, pain and suffering.
12:49We have experienced all kinds of suffering during those two years. Thank God. Today God has put an end to that suffering.
13:02We remain firm and ask God to end the war. But what I fear is that the Jews may violate the truce at any moment.
13:09In the previous truce and agreement, the occupation violated the truce and the agreement. Therefore, we hope that the occupation will not violate the truce and will respect it.
13:24This is what we want. This is what we want. And we want to live like the rest of the peoples of the world.
13:31I thank all the countries that supported us and helped us achieve the ceasefire and we hope that it will continue.
13:46Today we are very happy and from now on we will not think about the fact that a brother, relative or family member has been martyred.
13:56Praise be to God and I thank all the countries that supported us and helped us achieve a ceasefire.
14:03God willing, things will improve and Gaza will be more beautiful than before and it will be rebuilt.
14:10Despite the displacement, suffering and pain we have experienced, we have remained strong.
14:17I ask countries to work to prevent the truce from failing as happened with the first and second truces.
14:24And I ask God that the war will not return because we are very tired.
14:29Gaza was once very beautiful, more beautiful than all the Arab countries.
14:35Gaza continues to be so and it will be rebuilt.
14:39The end of this war today means the end of the spilling of innocent blood and thank God.
14:51My feeling is one of indescribable joy.
14:54I am glad that the massacres have stopped as they were occurring every hour in the Gaza Strip.
15:00Here, at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Bala, we were receiving the martyrs of the massacres every hour.
15:09We say that, from now on, all this must stop.
15:13For his part, Persian Recep Tayyip Endorgan says Turkey will participate in a task force to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire deal.
15:26After yesterday's agreement, thank God, the signatures were made today.
15:37We are very pleased with the agreement to which we actively contributed from the very beginning.
15:45We, as Turkey, will hopefully also take part in the task force that will monitor the implementation of the agreement on the ground.
15:56We will support reconstruction activities together with the international community to help Gaza rise again.
16:03Our goal is to stop the genocide and bring peace to the region as soon as possible.
16:13Meanwhile in Brazil, social organizations mobilized to denounce the complicity of large corporations in the genocide taking place in the Gaza Strip.
16:22During a day of protest in Sao Paulo, the Solidarity Movement for the Palestinian Coast gathered in front of the headquarters of Foula de Sao Paulo, one of the city's most important newspapers, to question the media coverage of the genocide.
16:36In this scenario, activists condemned the complicity of the media in the historical process of colonization of Palestine and denounced how large transnational corporations benefit from the genocide actions.
16:48The demonstration also paid tribute to journalists killed in Gaza by Israeli attacks.
