10 October - National Morning Forecast presented by Aiden McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hello, good morning. It is a cloudy and in some places misty or even drizzly start to the day.
00:07But I think that the balance between cloud and sunshine will shift a little more in favour of sunshine as the day progresses.
00:15High pressure has moved in. We've seen some weak fronts across the country bringing the thicker cloud.
00:20And certainly it's going to be a cloudier day for southern areas.
00:24Even once any mist and fog has lifted, we keep a lot of cloud.
00:27But further north, compared with Thursday, a brighter day is expected.
00:33Eastern Scotland, much of northern England, north Wales and parts of Northern Ireland favoured for some decent cloud breaks or even full-blown sunshine.
00:42Western Scotland still prone to this Atlantic breeze, bringing thicker cloud and some drizzly showers, likewise for Orkney and Shetland.
00:49And further south, because of these weak fronts in the mix, trapped under the high, we're going to see continued largely cloudy skies.
00:57Well into the afternoon.
00:59That will have an impact on temperatures, perhaps not feeling quite as warm in the south, although light winds, of course, and dry weather, so not entirely unpleasant.
01:0717 Celsius, typically 18 or 19, where we do see some sunshine.
01:12And into Friday evening, we're going to see the winds across the far north and northwest continue to come down as high pressure builds more widely across the UK.
01:21And as that happens, more extensive cloud breaks.
01:25In fact, clear sky is expected across a large swathe of central parts of the UK.
01:31Under those clear skies and with light winds, it's certainly going to be a colder night compared with previous nights.
01:37Temperatures fairly widely into the single figures, if not the mid-single figures in places.
01:42And of course, mist and fog developing where we get those lengthy clear skies.
01:46But here's the high as we begin the weekend.
01:48What a contrast to last week when we had Storm Amy, the UK's deepest area of low pressure on record for October.
01:58And of course, those very strong winds for the north and northwest of Scotland.
02:01We do still have a breeze for the northwest of Scotland on Saturday, but nowhere near as strong.
02:06That's bringing in thicker cloud through the day and some drizzly rain certainly becoming more persistent as the afternoon comes to an end.
02:14Elsewhere, plenty of sunshine, still got a lot of cloud in places, mainly the south and southwest.
02:20But I think a bright day for many on Saturday.
02:23Not quite as warm, but temperatures still reaching 14 or 15 Celsius.
02:28And we do it all again on Sunday with that high pressure, well, not really going anywhere in any time soon.
02:34So that high bringing us continued settled weather, plenty of sunshine, but still some areas of cloud floating around.
