09 October - National Evening Forecast presented by Aiden McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hello, high pressure is here and it's here to stay for some time. However, it starts
00:05off initially as a rather cloudy high. We've certainly seen plenty of cloud sagging south
00:11across the UK from the northwest and we keep tightly packed isobars across the far north.
00:17So a breezy night to come for the north and northwest of Scotland with that thick cloud
00:22continuing to bring some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle for Shetland, Orkney, Western
00:26Scotland, northwest England, north and west Wales for example. Some cloud elsewhere but
00:32also a few clear spells, most notably eastern Scotland, eastern England and a few clear spells
00:39continuing across the southwest of England. This is where winds are lightest and so where
00:44we've got some shelter, where we've got those clear skies, some mist and fog developing.
00:49Where we keep the cloud cover, temperature staying up at around 13-14 Celsius. We start
00:54Friday with again a lot of cloud cover. I think the thickest cloud by this stage into the
00:59Midlands, the southeast as well seeing that cloud drifting through. So a cloudier day expected
01:05for the south of England and south Wales compared with Thursday. But conversely, north Wales,
01:11northern England, much of Scotland seeing brighter skies compared with Thursday and some brightness
01:16developing for Northern Ireland, even western Scotland where we do continue to have an Atlantic
01:21flow and some light drizzly showers. But all in all, it's a settled day with temperatures of 16-17
01:29Celsius generally, but where we get some sunshine and some warmth from the wind travelling across the
01:34country, 18 Celsius or even 19 is possible. Then into Friday evening, the thicker cloud towards the
01:42south tends to drift southwards but still remain across southern counties. We'll continue to see a feed of
01:49cloud from the Atlantic into western Scotland, into Orkney and Shetland bringing some outbreaks of
01:54generally light, showery rain. But otherwise, for most, it's a settled night. High pressure is moving
02:00on top of the UK and so winds are falling light in most places away from the far north. And where we
02:05get some clear spells, again, there'll be some mist and fog patches, lower temperatures compared with
02:10previous nights as well, fairly widely into the single figures or even the mid-single figures in places.
02:16And here's the high as we start off the weekend. Slap bang over the top of the UK, a mock contrast
02:22compared with seven days earlier where we had storm Amy departing. This time we've got a settled
02:28weekend, not an entirely sunny weekend. We start Saturday with a lot of cloud in the south and again
02:34the north and northwest of Scotland. But I think a brighter day all in all across the country. We'll see
02:39cloud breaks, drift southwards as the day progresses. Plenty of sunshine across Northern Ireland,
02:45Wales, the central and eastern part of England and eastern Scotland. But western Scotland, Orkney,
02:51for example, seeing thickening cloud through the day and some more persistent light rain arriving
02:56later on. 14 Celsius here with a brisk breeze from the southwest, lighter winds, plenty of sunshine
03:02elsewhere. But actually temperatures are a little down compared with the week so far. 14 or 15 Celsius
03:08feeling very pleasant. However, with those light winds and blue skies and similar conditions
03:14expected on Sunday. In fact, that high pressure still with us as we start off next week.
