Forecasters watching two potential storms in the Atlantic

Meteorologists are closely tracking the chance for new tropical storms to develop in the Atlantic from Oct. 6-12.

00:00but i also want to point out that this time of year you can see as we head into the

00:04early to mid parts of october this is where we're at on the map which is still a very active time

00:08of year so definitely don't let your guard down because we are going to be watching out for an

00:12elevated risk here of tropical development going forward there's going to be two storms that we're

00:16mainly watching out for so we're going to break both of those down the first one is going to be

00:21a wave that's coming off of africa right now and as right now it looks like there are going to be

00:25two separate paths possible for this wave there's going to be a northward path and a southerly path

00:31now this northward path what we're showing here on the map is going to be wind shear now wind shear is

00:37one of those things that could really tear a storm apart and it actually prevents development from

00:42tropical waves from becoming tropical storms from becoming hurricanes so the darker the shade of

00:47purple on this map the stronger the wind shear which means the lower the potential for tropical

00:52development so this northwardly track is going to be taking this storm this wave into more wind shear

00:58which means there's going to be a lower potential for development going forward however if it takes

01:02this southerly track which our latest forecast has a higher likelihood of once again look at this

01:08lower wind shear which means a higher potential for tropical development which is why for this wave

01:13here off the coast of africa between today tomorrow and wednesday we have a high potential

01:19of something to develop including a named storm so we'll be watching out for that in addition as we

01:23head into the weekend we're also watching this area here across the southeast coast of the united

01:28states the timeline on this is going to be friday saturday into sunday we're going to be watching

01:32off further uh development out here we also have this area down here off of uh off of mexico that we're

01:38going to be watching out for seventh eighth ninth that's going to be as we head into tomorrow wednesday

01:43thursday that could have some impacts there across parts of the gulf coast so we will be watching this

01:47potential very closely heading into the weekend
