00:00Well, it is early August, and August, September, and October are the three busiest months for
00:06tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin, and there are five things to point out here on
00:12the broader map.
00:14We have Tropical Storm Dexter.
00:15We're also tracking this disturbance here that's going to be backing closer to the Carolina
00:19coast and then likely curving north and northeast.
00:23This could easily become a tropical storm somewhere between, say, the Virginia coast
00:27and Bermuda this weekend, but it will likely stay offshore.
00:30It will send some extra moisture into the Carolinas.
00:32This wave is actually going to make a push into the Gulf with a low chance of development
00:36next week, but then we head out farther into the eastern Atlantic.
00:39Strong tropical wave that will likely stay out to sea.
00:42This one could make a run into the Caribbean.
00:45So Dexter is not going to be with us too much longer.
00:47It's actually strengthened a little bit compared to yesterday at this time.
00:50Racing east-northeast at 16 miles per hour.
00:52It's about equal with, say, Philadelphia or maybe New York City in latitude, but as it
00:56drifts a little farther north, the water's colder, more wind shear.
00:59This storm is on borrowed time.
01:01As we look elsewhere, though, the disturbance that could organize a medium risk between Friday,
01:06Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between the Carolinas and Bermuda.
01:10The core of this will likely stay offshore.
01:12The next wave moves into the Gulf with a low likelihood of development.
01:15But there are two tropical waves in the eastern Atlantic.
01:18One is very likely to organize and likely get pulled north.
01:22The one behind that is still out near the western part of Africa, pulling into the eastern Atlantic
01:28right now.
01:29So we have a strong tropical wave and then another one behind that.
01:32We'll be watching as this first one likely gets moved northwest by that steering flow because
01:38the Bermuda Azores High is far enough east that that will open the door for this to stay
01:42north of the islands probably.
01:43The one behind that will be a greater concern.
01:45And the steering influences are often largely driven by the position of the Bermuda High.
01:52Number two.
