00:00To meet the restricted budget for 2026, CWI's cricket director, Myles Bascom, indicated there's been a few cutbacks.
00:08Notably, they've withdrawn the combined campuses and colleges and the West Indies Academy from the Super 50 and West Indies Championship competitions.
00:16A shortened format of regional cricket also means less matches overall.
00:21So, we will see a reduction in many cases in the number of matches across tournaments.
00:27Unfortunately, we are also likely to see the CCC and the Academy being withdrawn from our West Indies Championship and Super 50 tournaments.
00:44And, of course, that does not mean that those players do not have the opportunity to participate in those tournaments
00:50because they will have the opportunity to return to their franchises and vie for a spot in those teams.
00:57The cuts also affect women's cricket. As Bascom says, they are turning their attention to skills development of senior players.
01:05In the women's tournament, we are likely to revert to merging the T20 and ODI formats back into a singular tournament
01:13that is likely to be held ahead of the Sri Lanka series in February.
01:19We are confident, however, that all the plans that we have in place, we are planning to put a shift onto skill development.
01:32So, for example, our senior women players will be in camp for eight weeks from November pretty much to Christmas working on developing their skills.
01:43There has also been a postponement of the under-17 tournament as CWI has instead chosen to have an extended under-19 tournament.
01:52As for the senior team, they intended to hire a batting coach slash consultant to address the skill level of players.
02:00Job opportunities will also be coming for full-time sports psychologists to develop patriotism in players.
02:06A high-performance center project at Coolidge Ground is also in the works.
02:11At present, Bascom indicated their high-performance approach has not worked.
02:15Where we have failed somewhat is in our ability to really bring that talent to its full potential.
02:22And so we have to continue to revise our high-performance strategy
02:26and we have to ensure that we are implementing high-performance programs across the region
02:33so that we can compound the benefits of those programs.
02:38CWI did not express regret over the team selected which lost to Nepal.
02:42They felt it was necessary for their development.
