00:00Handicap in Major League Baseball is tough, but sometimes, Joe, I equate it to, you know what,
00:04like everybody's excited for opening day, except me. Like, I like RBI props, I like team totals
00:08to the over, I like to see how I can try to, you know, get around a bad pitcher and a bad
00:12bullpen. Well, yesterday, all aces were on the mound. In the first three games, you saw what
00:15that means, lower scoring games. Now, maybe Hunter Green isn't an ace, maybe the bullpens run up to
00:20par there in that Reds-Dodgers game, and he got a lot of runs, but that's sort of the outlier.
00:24So today, though, Joe, the aces are not on the mound. The number twos and sometimes number
00:28threes and heck, maybe even a bullpen effort because you're about to get eliminated. That's
00:33what makes it a lot of fun to handicap today. Same times as yesterday. 108, 308, 608, and 908 are the
00:40start times today, and we're going to start in Detroit. It's the Tigers and the Guardians. Detroit
00:45wins, they move on. Cleveland wins, game number three tomorrow from Cleveland. Line opened up here
00:50around that minute 120s range. Still sitting there, Joe. Minus 124s, minus 132s out there in the sports
00:56landscape, and yet another low total of six and a half. Mize versus Bybee. Are the numbers too low
01:03now, Joe, that we don't have a scoobal start? I am shocked that the total opened up at seven,
01:10Donnie, and then it was quickly bet down to six and a half. And listen, it makes sense. Again,
01:15two of the worst offenses in Major League Baseball down the stretch here. And listen,
01:21the Guardians have been terrible. We know this all year long. It's an anemic offense.
01:26This starting pitching has been absolutely dominant in the second half, going to a six-man
01:33rotation, giving guys a little extra rest, and it paid off for them. They were able to get to this
01:38point. But don't expect a ton of runs, even against Mize in this spot. And Bybee has been great at home
01:46down the stretch here. He's always been a better pitcher at home than he's been on the road. And
01:50the biggest fault of this Tigers lineup, Donnie, is they can't hit right-handed pitching. They hit
01:56lefties better, which will be interesting because if the Guardians win today, who do they throw
02:01tomorrow? Is it going to be, are they going to cobble together a bullpen right-handed game, or
02:06are they going to go with the lefties? So, but right now, again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
02:11Nothing these two teams have done offensively should lead anybody to believe this is the
02:16breakout game. I don't think it is. Yeah. No, I think you're right about that, too. And
02:20also, understand this. Like, if Casey Mize in the first inning lets two runners on base,
02:24he's probably going to get pulled immediately. Same thing with Bybee. Like, the stakes right
02:27now to win this game are high. It's not like, oh, we're going to burn our bullpen. They don't
02:31think about it like that. All you're looking to do is win a game and advance at this point,
02:34where you would give a superstar starter a little bit more of a leash. Not the case today. Game
02:39number two, San Diego and Chicago. I'll tell you, watching that game yesterday, Joe, you know,
02:43guys didn't hit with runners in scoring position. That's one thing. And yes, we did have a couple
02:46solo home runs from Chicago, but there was a lot of baseballs hit to the warning track yesterday,
02:50where the wind was blowing in and really affected it. Today, again, the wind is going to be blowing in
02:55same sort of temperatures as we saw yesterday, around eight to 10 miles per hour. Seats versus
02:59Kittredge on the mound and a opening number of around a minus 120 price. You'll see the graphic
03:04there. Now we're down to minus 112s through minus 110s, depending where you're shopping at.
03:09And the total, Joe, that opened up at seven automatically bet down to six and a half
03:12again today. Are the Padres going to stave off elimination or the Cubs bullpen just too much
03:17for those Padres bats? Well, I mean, Kittredge is going to open. Imanaga is set for the bulk
03:23relief. So everyone needs to understand that the lefty will be coming in and trying to shut him
03:29down. And he's had a problem with the home run ball this season here. He's not nearly as good as he was
03:35a year ago. But I am fascinated with the Dylan Cease move here, Donnie. And I think because there
03:42were question marks heading into this post, like, was he even going to make the roster? Were they going
03:48to utilize him? Because he's been horrific this year, especially on the road here. But I think what
03:55they're thinking is, the Padres, there is no tomorrow, right, Donnie? So that bullpen, they'll come in
04:01in a heartbeat, second inning, third inning. They will unload that bullpen to win this game at all
04:07costs. So if they can get, I think anything they can get from Dylan Cease past the third inning,
04:13I think is gravy for them at that point. And I think that's how they're approaching it. But
04:17feels like another low scoring game here. Yeah, it's one of those shows I think you're talking
04:22about too. It's high leverage situations where it's like, if we get the cease that we think we can get
04:27this lightning in a bottle, he's the guy that can go five innings pitch show, 12 strikeouts,
04:30and really carry you. But you're right about this. When you're down in the series,
04:34if Cease is in trouble early, man, we were hoping to get at least three out of Cease. We only got
04:38two innings out of Cease. They'll go right to that bullpen and just try to match batter for batter
04:42the rest of the game and say, oh, no, we're going to blow our bullpen up. What? You're going to save
04:46your bullpen? You lose the game? You go home for the actual offseason? You're not doing that here.
04:50All hands on deck in losing situations, and that qualifies for the Padres today.
04:54Boston and New York, Bayo versus Rodon, heavy favorite for the New York Yankees at a minus
04:58172 price as high. It's minus 185 at that MGM, a total listed at seven and a half. Do we get
05:05runs today here, particularly from the New York Yankees? Yeah, well, I mean, listen,
05:11advantage Yankees. Rodon versus Bayo, absolutely advantage Yankees here. I mean, Rodon has been
05:19absolutely the ace in many aspects here. He's been one of the most consistent
05:24pitchers that we have seen here. He just beat Boston last month in pretty dominant fashion here.
05:32It's one game. The Yankees have been there and done that before. Bayo's not like Crochet. He's not
05:38a guy that's going to overpower this lineup. He's not. He's a pitch to contact guy, which could be
05:42very scary in this spot here against the Yankees. So, yeah, I think it's advantage, Rodon. But again,
05:49I would not betting the Yankees. I had them in the first five last night, Donnie. You know why?
05:54Because I didn't trust the bullpen. I got the Yankees in the first five again today, Donnie. You
05:58know why? Because I don't trust the bullpen here. But the Yankees should get the Bayo before the Red
06:04Sox get the Rodon. Somebody's got to step up and hit a long ball, Joe. Look at that short porch and
06:09right field, man. Somebody go after that today. Talking about you, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton here.
06:14Final game of the night. Once again, 9-0-8 start on the West Coast. It's Cincinnati and Los Angeles.
06:18Littell's going up against Yamamoto and a monster favorite here for the Dodgers. Minus two 55s in a
06:25playoff game and a total listed at eight. What that tells me is Yamamoto probably will dominate the
06:30Reds and the Dodgers will score just enough runs to win this baseball game and then they'll head into
06:33Philadelphia. It's almost a shame. Like if the Reds get swept, we probably had a little bit more fun
06:38laughing at least at the Mets or maybe the Mets could have pulled off a surprise against the Dodgers.
06:41But it is what it is. Dodgers looking to close them out today, Joe.
06:45Well, they better and they better play from in front because that bullpen, Donnie, is
06:50listen, it's not going to be a problem against the Reds. But as the Dodgers move on, it's going
06:56to be a problem. I'm telling you. And I think it's a good opportunity because we know they're
07:01always going to be shaded favorites. There's always good overvaluing the Dodgers is what it's
07:06all about. There's more money in fading the Dodgers in spots than there is trying to back
07:11them here. They'll be fine against the Reds. It's everyone else I'm worried about.
07:16Your hump day is better off. Why? Because Donnie Wright's out and Joe Ranieri are on the air here
07:20for the early line right here on the Sports Grid Network. He's still bringing that passion for the
07:24Ryder Cup. Who talks about golf? We do. I love the Ryder Cup. And in two years, maybe overseas,
07:30Team USA will finally get it together and play like a team. They just didn't do that this time.
07:34Things have to change. I'll tell you what else has to change here, Joe. This is the time of the
07:38program where we like to reach out to the public and ask their opinion on what's going to happen
07:42today in the sports landscape. Here's our fave the public poll.
07:53Get involved, people! If you're not following at Sports Grid on X, you're doing it wrong. Head
07:58over there, hit the follow button, answer our questions that we ask each and every morning
08:02for the early line. And the simple question that was asked today, which matchup in this year's wild
08:06card will reach three games? Which means teams that are down 0-1 will win today and force a game
08:11number three. Tigers-Guardians, Padres-Cubs, Red Sox-Yankees, Reds and the Dodgers. No surprise
08:18to me, Joe, or probably to you. Nobody's voting on the Reds and the Dodgers because that's like a
08:22minus 250 price point year on the Dodgers to win today. But up in the air, Red Sox-Yankees,
08:27Padres-Cubs, Tigers and Guardians. I voted Tigers and Guardians, but most people voting with the Red
08:33Sox and the Yankees, Joe. How about that? Yeah, well, it makes sense because, listen,
08:38everything is better if the Yankees and Red Sox go to three games. Let's be realistic. Then
08:45coming down to winner-take-all, winning-advance, that's what it's all about. And the Yankees have
08:51a big edge starting pitching in this game here today. Now they got to go out and get it done.
08:57How about that? Do we think we're going to get four game number threes on Thursday? Boy,
09:02that would be glorious here. We talk about fading the public. I don't know if I want to fade the public
09:07tonight going against that Reds-Dodgers. Like, oh, we'll just take the Reds because they should
09:11be able to win tonight. That one does seem to be in peril, but the other three games should be
09:14fantastic this afternoon. So now Joe's been holding down the fort the past couple of days.
09:20I've been scuffling around, but I'm going to get back right today. But here's our bye-bye-bye picks.
09:25Lead the way, Joe. Keep it simple. What do we got?
09:36All right. Well, we're going to go to that first game here, Donnie, again. And we are,
09:42we told you to take the run and a half yesterday, and that worked out with the Guardians. But now I'm
09:46going to take the Guardians early in this game, in the first five with Tanner Bybee on the mound.
09:53And this guy has been absolutely lights out for him. They have won his last four starts. He has
10:01also dominated the Tigers here over the last three starts, three and all with a 0.95 ERA
10:09versus Detroit. That's the kind of guy that you want out there. We told you Detroit struggles
10:15against right-handed pitching. I think they got the right guy on the mound for the right spot.
10:20They're not going to have to score a lot, but Casey Mize is not their school, Tariq Scoble. So
10:25I do think the Guardians at home bounce back. I think they play from in front. So at this price,
10:32I'll back on Bybee, keeping it down there for the Guardians and back them in the first five.
10:37Come on, let's get three games in that series. Let's get to a pivotal game number three tomorrow
10:42afternoon. For me, Joe, I'm going to just keep it simple today. I like the Padres. I thought I had a
10:46good pitching performance in Pavetta. I did up to the fifth inning. Nobody's going to win by scoring
10:50one run. Just not going to happen here at this point. So for me, the Los Angeles Dodgers going
10:54up against Zach Littell. And you might say it's all hands on deck for the Reds and, oh, they could
10:57match up their bullpen. Bring in the bullpen on the Reds. We should be able to get more runs there.
11:02So for me, instead of saying, oh, money line, minus 250 on the Dodgers, they're going to win today
11:06and they're going to hit. Team total over for the Dodgers at four and a half and a minus 115 price.
11:11Littell has struggled with left-handed batters over the past 30 days. He's going to get Otani,
11:16Freeman, Muncy, Edmond, and Rootvelt, at least from the left-hand side today in the projected
11:21lineup. The bats will do damage on a 74-degree night in Los Angeles with a late wind blowing
11:27out. Give me the Dodgers to play five runs, Joe, and for me, to get back into the wind column.
11:32How are we feeling? Listen, no doubt there. I mean, kind of an interesting spot here for the
11:39Reds. How do we not have Abbott available here is beyond me. But, you know, Zach Littell,
11:45it is there. Good luck. The bottom line is you're going to have to play from in front
11:51if I'm the Reds. And if I can't do that, Donnie, it's probably lights out here.
11:57Answer me this question. This afternoon, or should I say early evening, the New York Yankees lose to
12:03the Boston Red Sox? Do we make it till tomorrow's show to find out if Boone is gone or not, Joe?
12:10How about that?
12:12No, because it's going to happen in game three, Donnie, when ultimately Boone is going to make
12:17some sort of stupid decision and rotation. And that'll cost them a game. And that will be the
12:23end of Mr. Boone. No, strikeout from the Yankees just happened here at that point. As you hear
12:29that whistle, that'll do it for the show for Joe Ranieri and Donnie right side. Best part about
12:33this, we'll be back bright and early tomorrow morning for more early line action.
